<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> I have great faith in cadaver dogs, and in this case, I wish it was feasible to use them. But there is just so much area to search.
For example, what if the children wandered to the road? Better send the dogs out, in both directions on the road. How far each way? How far into the brush on either side of the road do handlers take the dogs?
What if they were taken in a vehicle? Where might handlers predict a body dump might have taken place?
What if they went into the woods, where do you take your cadaver dogs to start sniffing for decomp? If I recall correctly, the search area was about 5 square km. How long would this take for, say, 1 or 2 handlers, with 1 or 2 dogs?
Unfortunately, as you say, DMB, they need some kind of info to go on. Sad but true.
IMHO
Edit to add: apparently there were only about 12 cadaver search dogs across Canada at the time of this article from 2023 -
“The RCMP has 12 human remains detection dogs "strategically located in divisions across Canada," said national RCMP spokesperson Amanda Perry. Four additional teams will begin training in August, she said.”
