And who would do the staging, LE? I don't think that's a possibility, JMO. This article really was an eye opener for me, lots going on in the two families involved. Lots more than we knew about, things the neighbors heard going on, things the school knew. I think LE knows what path to take. They need to find where these two sweet angels wound up. It breaks the heart 💔

There’s absolutely no reason that LE would be involved in staging a crime scene and I really doubt DM is concerned about the police implicating him. But I don’t blame him if he’s somewhat paranoid considering public speculation is filled with allegations he was somehow involved in the children’s death. Even he has acknowledged that. We just don’t know what happened but foul play is not out of the question and even in the event of accidental deaths, it’s certainly a crime to hide the bodies.

I don’t think we can assume everything people told reporters in this G&M article is totally factual just because it was published by MSM. It appears to contain quite a lot of heresy and maybe even local gossip. The RCMP have not acknowledged it and perhaps this article will motivate them to break their silence.

I think the Globe & Mail is an excellent paper with a great reputation. The last article may have sordid details, but that’s a reflection of the case in general, imo.

I agree however the G&M does not have the ability to investigate this case nor vet any of the details provided by their sources, therefore the value of that information is dependant on the integrity of those sources and truthfulness of the information they’re passing on.

Only the RCMP is investigating this case, important to remember G&M does not have the legal authority to do on their behalf. I can recall following various cases when MSM have published interviews with people that had no connection with the case once it was solved.

I doubt LE will validate anything with comments. It's an active investigation. I also don't believe the article was all hearsay, MO. For me if the neighbor et al are telling the truth (I cannot think anyone close by the event would make up anything like that when kids are missing and presumed in danger) and LE was made aware of that info directly after the children's disappearance, that info by itself is extremely valuable. The picture it creates, as far as activity right before the children were reported missing, would be of the utmost importance. AJMO

Another element to the story— until October 15th, or weather conditions change, here in NS we’re currently banned from activities in the woods due to the threat of forest fires. (Even woods on our own properties.)

“Many people were caught off guard when the province temporarily banned all woods work without a permit on Tuesday in order to mitigate the risk of sparking forest fires.

Anyone caught camping, hiking, fishing or using vehicles such as ATVs in the woods could face a $25,000 fine. Mining and forestry companies have also been told to stop work and apply for permits in order to continue.”

The police said they were going to search more mines in the area, and I’m guessing it won’t impact that. But it directly affects the residents of the Lansdowne area and any searches or other activities that may be going on.

No the article wasn’t all hearsay, but some of it certainly is. As for as neighbours hearing a five-speed, google map indicates the closest neighbour is actually not that close and both residences are back from the Gairloch Road quite a bit. So I wonder how it can be known this mystery vehicle was coming and going from the Martell residence? Other explanations could be it was road-racing to hit top end speed from the corner of Landsdowne Road. This would be something the RCMP would be required to determine, if it’s believed to be a credible tip. However they’ve indicated the investigation is open to consideration of all options so….

I don’t know, are these the same neighbours that started the drug party rumour which DM denied?

Martell also addressed rumours there was a party at the home before the children went missing.

"There was no drug party the day before the disappearance," he said. "That's absolute nonsense."

I will concede if we view the article as an opinion piece , the journalist may be drawing on what information is known publicly through the rcmp and what she/he may have heard off the books from those within the investigation team ,. She may have spoke with DM ,MbM and family members on both sides and I'm sure she is not living in isolation so has probably the same access to social media as the rest of us and access to family members on there who have been quite vocal and are accessible through their sm pages .

I certainly don't think it's a fluff piece and published for clicks . There has to be merit in what is being stated otherwise the G&M would leave themselves wide open for litigation and slander and if they are a reputable paper they would want the rcmp to speak through them if there is a breakthrough in the case . And I am speculating that the paper and journalists would want to remain in their favour

But and it's a big but there is a lot of noise around this case on SM , you cannot even Google the children's name and thousands of tiktoks , yourube videos and Facebook posts come up before you even get to an msm article . So that creates pollution for everyone involved . Opinion is formed depending on whose side you are on or take . More likes are given if you berate DM for example .

Relatives or mbm /dm may also be motivated in their narrative on what's popular and we may not be getting a true opinion.

MbM may be bolstered by sm opinion that she was being abused to further enhance her innocence.

DM defeated by SM opinion of his guilt is more eager to prove his innocence and his family would also be backing that up

Even killers care if people like them or they are viewed in a certain light whichever light is their preference

The neighbour stating they heard a 5 speed vehicle during the hours of 12am and 5am could have an agenda . The description of the speed is very specific and we could say this is because he works with cars or is it because he didn't like DM and knew his own car was in need of repair and off road and yhat the only vehicle he had access to happened to be an atv 5 speed .

When I read the piece if all is the truth I felt it was the reason major crimes is leading the investigation and the RCMP's stated it was complex as you have so many dynamics going on here that it really is hard separating the wheat from the chaff.

My personal opinion still remains the same if the timeline is true 20 minutes is not really long enough for kids to not be found by searchers or DM . No scent beyond the yard is strange. Especially with every resource thrown at the investigation and no expense spared Cps involvement did not happen because this was a stable household . And MBM leaving the area and the relationship is "different " from what I've seen in other missing children's cases . Two children going missing at the same time and not one item found doesn't make sense to me but I'm sure it can happen .

I do think something else happened but what that something is I don't know . I followed this case from day one and lilly and jack are the first thing I think of when I wake up . I sincerely hope the rcmp has or is considering sending the cadaver dogs into the search area otherwise I feel it will be a hunter and his dog that may find the remains of these two beautiful innocent children.

And SM will continue to throw up influencers who will capitalise on this family's sorrow

Very true, tragic too, it’s as if these missing children have become a SM industry.

One thing to mention, freedom of the press protects the media from libel lawsuits as long as what they publish originates from a legitimate source. The media couldn’t function if they were required to prove true everything they publish from various sources and often times it verges on opinion. That’s not to say a person spreading false and malicious information is protected but the media usually doesn’t reveal their sources unless required by court order.

I remember the early MSM reports about the NS shootings had his wife as one of the first victims, something about a boyfriend too iirc. This was later known to be absolutely false and it was believed the source was what was being circulated on twitter at the time.

The wise old saying still holds water even in today’s world - Don’t believe everything you read.

As has been mentioned as for searches with cadaver dogs, maybe we have to wait for the fall season when leaves have fallen and the undergrowth is less bushy and dense. As well NS currently is under high risk of wildfire and a provincial law has been passed preventing access to forested areas even by landowners so that likely would cause a delay in any planned searches as well.

Wildfire risk would definitely be a reason to hold off going into the forest on a search with dogs . I understand that entirely

Is it the 14th of October that hunting season starts ?

In ireland we have two different categories of newspapers, the red tops , those are gossip type newspapers and serious ones like The irish independent and The examiner .

They have different classes of readership and the serious ones don't engage in D list celebrity fodder and fluff pieces . Although they have opinion pieces on the news of the day it is headlined as that so readers know it is the opinion of the author only And normally it would state sources such as twitter and the likes . I was of the opinion that G&M would be similar.

I didn't disbelieve the information in the article, but I did feel information gathered could be from biased and polluted sources hence my inclusion of this in my post above .

My whole thought process on this case is centred on the fact that the RCMP threw everything they had into finding those children , not one pound was spared . So why didn't they find them and by them I mean , heat thermal cameras ,sars dogs , drones and the many many sars personal that meticulously searched . Imo if there was one possible boot print at the pipeline there should have at least been a couple of others in between the home and there . And imo if there was one set of boot prints in the driveway where were the other set . Why did the dogs not catch a scent further than the driveway .

And for another matter entirely why aren't relatives that are so vocal on SM speaking to serious journalists about what they know so it can be published as fact and might actually lead to the children being found and might smoke someone who does know something out or spook a guilty party into revealing what happened , As speaking on platforms that most people regard as rumour and gossip won't allow real facts to surface as no one will pay attention as its getting too hard to separate what is fact .

I know more about the relatives at this stage then the children themselves.

What was lilly and jacks favourite colour ? Favourite food ? Which toy did they go to bed with ? Did they have a favourite person in DMs family , child or adult . Did they have breakfast that morning? Where they tucked into bed that night before they went missing? Who was their best friend ? What was their favourite TV show ? What did they chat about in their little ramblings ? What games did they like ? How long did they usually play in the Fort like area ? Where they afraid of anything or anyone ? How often did they see mbms family ?

All these questions are an important part of who lilly and jack where or are , why has it become more about adults egos ? One thing DM stated at the start was he wanted to give everything he could to investigators so the focus could be on finding them . Well imo , it has become more of a focus on who can out do each other with their thoughts and prayers

Does anybody have the time to locate what’s been corrected?

Is it that the tip about the loud vehicle wasn’t reported until May 8th? Or perhaps I just didn’t notice that date when I read this the first time but I had the impression it was reported immediately. Not till six days later, on May 8th sure caught my attention now. By that date the search in the woods was being called off. So the neighbours “considered it important information” only after the children weren’t found during the initial search when fingers of blame began to point? If the RCMP spoke to the neighbours within those first six days and they didn’t say a peep about the loud car, the value of this tip would become questionable IMO.

There is however at least one account of strange activity at the mobile home that night. RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carlie McCann confirmed that police received a tip on May 8 from someone who described hearing a vehicle come and go from the mobile home throughout the night before the children were reported missing. “Investigators are continuing to review and assess more than six hundred tips from the public and follow up on over eight hundred tasks,” she wrote in an e-mail.

A neighbour who spoke to The Globe said they reported this information on May 8. The neighbour said they were working on a vehicle in their own yard when they heard the same loud, five-speed car come and go from the trailer about six times, from midnight to 5 a.m. After the children’s disappearance, the neighbour considered it important information and reported it to police. The Globe agreed not to name the neighbour because of concerns for their safety in the community.

Will go read original article and see if this paragraph matches up

I need to read the two articles side by side which is not possible on a phone screen and I don't have access to a laptop or computer screen .

I do think the correction may be just the place name as indicated above . Generally I'm good at spotting a change (ocd) but the only one I would have to double check are the ones screenshoted and the one about Malehya up texting belynda is the same wording too

I doubt LE will validate anything with comments. It's an active investigation. <snipped to reply>

I wanted to comment, I used the word ‘acknowledge’ not ‘validate’. The role of police is never to validate anything published in the media. It’s to investigate and solve crimes, something the media isn’t tasked with doing.

Did you notice that much of the G&M article dwelled on the private lives of DM and MBM, very little involved evidence relating to the disappearance of the children. The only connection to solving the crime is purely speculation that one situation might’ve led to another.

Anyway when I wrote ‘acknowledged’ I can imagine the RCMP acknowledging it in a general way, saying what they often say “we deal only with facts and if you don’t hear it from us, then it may not be entirely accurate”.

Me too but I'm thinking when they finally say something it will be announcing that the located the children or made arrests.
