I think you misread my comment, I’m talking about one possible perception if they are not found, and this was in response to musicalnote’s comment about another perception if they are not found.
One perception could be that someone has gotten away with it, in the absence of bodies. The other perception is that it was a terrible accident, that they simply walked into the woods and perished, when in fact someone has gotten away with it.
Really, I’m not sure where anyone said they would want an innocent person prosecuted based on “opinion of the general public”. It should be obvious, no one wants that or has called for that.
IMHO
No I didn’t misread your comment, actually my mind was going somewhere else.
As with any murder case, it’s always possible someone may get away with it due to lack of evidence. But upholding the principles of our legal system “innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt” and all that IMO is most important, especially because the public will never see inside LE’s files if a prosecutor determines the case does not warrant charges. This is also what protects people from being charged and/or convicted when there’s no evidence to prove guilt. If there’s no evidence, it’s assumed they’re innocent.
Some of the followers of this case may be US citizens so just to add a general comment that in Canada public pressure to lay charges is never an issue because our police force, prosecutors or our judges are NOT elected roles, an important difference between the two countries.
