I wonder if they are using this as the only charges and means they can get on him to get him in for serious questioning?

You know, like the pulling a serial killer over for a traffic ticket to "hold" them for some time on reasonable grounds when they need more evidence. I think this was done with LISK (not sure) and I think Douglas Garland as well, they had him on something not connected to the murders but got him in their custody to keep as long as able.

This will put serious pressure on DM with him being held with charges. Let him talk talk talk!

*ETA: had to look it up - Douglas Garland was taken in for questioning, and after being released was charged with the identity theft from the 90s, which allowed him to be kept in police custody until July 11 when he was granted bail under the condition he would not return to the rural property. On July 14 Douglas Garland drove to his rural Airdrie property in a rental car. Two police vehicles were dispatched to intercept him, but when they reached Garland's car it was parked outside the property. Due to the uneven terrain, police approached on foot, using assistance from a HAWCS helicopter to locate Garland in a thicket before arresting him at 1:25 a.m

Now that we see these charges leveled against DM, I wonder if MBM's continued silence has more to do with her following the guidance of investigators than it does her reticence to speak on behalf of her missing children.

It has long bothered me that MBM has basically remained completely silence since the first 48 hours the children were missing. It was such a contrast to DM's oh so vocal approach. But what if LE cautioned her to stay silent and let DM talk talk talk in hopes he would dig a hole for himself?

It will be interesting to see if MBM makes any comment about the current situation. Maybe she won't, particularly if she is, as we suspect, the adult victim in the case against him.

Yes seems with the two officers both giving public statements, Dna test for blanket and now this . It was a slow climb but its picking up speed on the descent

Could be, they might've been looking for anything and everything to bring DM in with a charge and put the pressure on if he's involved or knows who is involved.

The Mounties issued a brief statement saying 34-year-old Daniel Martell was arrested Monday morning by officers with the Pictou County detachment.

He was released from custody and is expected to comply with certain conditions, the RCMP said. Martell is also scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court on March 2. No other details were released and Martell was not immediately available for comment.

This video is taken AFTER the kids were missing, and in a frame by frame at precisely 3:54 timestamp where Janie and the reporter head toward the house, you can see the pink blanket or a pink covering in the window. If there are pics without that pink covering, it may have been taken after the disappearance for investigative purposes.

“Malehya said he (Martell) would try to block her, hold her down and once he pushed her,” one of the documents says. “She said he would also take her phone from her when she tried to call her mom, which would sometimes be physical and hurt.”

When reached by phone on Jan. 15, Martell denied the allegations, saying they are part of a narrative designed to make him look evil.

“I never abused Malehya,” he said at the time. “But the narrative was set that Daniel is an evil person …. You can see all the allegations online. It’s absolutely insane.”

Asked about the allegation that he hurt his partner when he tried to take her phone, Martell said, “Allegations to make me seem evil. It didn’t happen.”

Earlier this month, Martell said he has been “completely honest and open with absolutely everything,” and he described himself as the “figurehead for the Lily and Jack investigation …. at the forefront, displaying everything I could and telling everything I could to the public.”

At one point during the interview on Jan. 15, Martell spoke about himself in the third person when he declared: “He has nothing to do with the disappearance. But in the public, as long as he looks evil, the public will judge him as being guilty.”

Notice DM said “a blanket” NOT the piece of the pink blanket found tied to a tree. IIRC the RCMP stated that piece was sent for analysis way back last May. It wouldn’t take many months to determine if there was blood on it and why not just test it to DNA samples? So maybe now we have a different mysterious blanket?

Honestly I think DM thrives by often dropping short non-detailed comments just to fuel speculation, generally not a tactic of a guilty person but it does serve to sustain public interest in this missing children’s case.

Did DM insert that the Dna sample was about tests for the blanket or did the rcmp say it was for that purpose

Because I'm thinking the DNA sample was for the assault case

Yes I agree, very strong possibility the complainant is indeed the silent MBM considering she left when the children went missing May 2025. Once her allegations in her statements became public the RCMP really had no choice but to lay charges and allow the courts to hear what she had to say but I’ve no idea why it has taken so long. I’m just reminded that “everything happens for a reason”.
