My point wasn't about her. It was about HIM. Why would you tell someone to wait on calling 911? What did you need to check or do first?

But beyond that, the dynamic of her feeling the need to ask him. "*Should* we call?" Not, "oh god we need to call 911". It's a subtle thing to read too much into, but I think it potentially demonstrates a pattern of needing to defer to Daniel about decisions.

But in calling regardless of his wishes, I think it demonstrates that Malehya was (perhaps even subconsciously?) suspicious of Daniel. She took the opportunity to call in his absence, maybe hoping to be able to speak more freely.

While listening to the search on scanner, there was a heaviness of things unsaid. One thing that was spoken in very laden tones was the assertions that "family INSISTS they would NEVER cross the road, under any circumstances, so there's definitely no need to search in that direction". The searchers were clearly communicating some polite skepticism of family narrative during the very first day of searching. Same with their tone around the reported timeline for last hearing them.

It's that same special tone used by doctors and social workers. "So and so reports that..."

They arrived on scene, and knew right away that there may be some "unreliable narrator" potential.

If my kids were playing in the yard and suddenly disappeared I would definitely want to check their fort and/or "cabin" or wherever they often went to play before calling 911. Calling 911 is not a trivial thing. If you are going to report your kids missing you want to make sure they are actually missing. In fact, this thing where MBM just knew she had to phone is a huge red flag for me. There is something really wrong there. I'm thinking that, at the very least, the time that had transpired was much more than the 20 minutes they are claiming.

I’ve heard snippets of the scanner feed, but not what you mentioned. Could you please post a link to what you’ve quoted above?

I recall DM mentioning in one media interview (IIRC, but can't find an MSM or RCMP source for this) that he said he first checked "the little fort of sticks Lilly and Jack would sometimes play in they had up there" near / above the trailer elevationwise perhaps.

However, I don't know if this should be treated as fact or would be moreso something he said.

Unless someone has a quote with a link to MSM source I missed about the existence of the fort with corroboration from a family member living there or nearby, TIA.

At 2:45 DM’s mother shows the CBC reporter a fort with sticks made by the children, close by in the woods. She claims she searched the entire area.

But iirc DM also mentioned checking some old cabins that were back in the woods.

Yes, thank you @MistyWaters for responding so quickly and providing the link to the video of DM's mom who showed the CBC reporter the kid's fort. I missed it and hadn't watched this before.

"We didn't see them anywhere. And Malehya said, should I call 911? And I said, well, just wait one second. I ran up in the woods to the kids. They have cabins up in the woods. It’s about, I don't know, 100 feet up in the woods. Ran up there, ran right back down, which only took me like 30 seconds." - Daniel Martell, transcribed quote

Think about that.

-Should we call 911?

-No, wait. Let me go.... ???

Really?

Did it only take 30 seconds?

SHE made the 911 call. And did it in the moments he ran off. After telling her to wait. Her instinct knew the call needed to be made, despite his urge to wait. I think there may even have been an urgency to call while he wasn't right there.

Maybe that is why LE didn't find any drugs in the house that morning---he may have cleaned it out quickly before they arrived?
He can't deny what he's already publicly admitted to The Globe and Mail:

There's another "I do it a lot, but it's not a *problem*" type similar quote in some of the unmentionable sources and their loosely vetted screengrabs.

^^ Just adding a source to the post above.

Summary of this paylocked article where MBM’s grandmother mentions abusive behaviour by DM and that MBM told her he hid a drug addiction problem from her for a year.
Thank you for posting that summary, it's pointed out some things I have missed.

-a neighbour reported to the RCMP and the G & M that there was strange activity during the night before the disappearance. A loud 5-speed vehicle was heard going back and forth to the trailer about 6 times between midnight and 5 am. They believe it was the same vehicle each time
This is really strange, I assume you all discussed this in great detail pages back? I haven't been following very closely every day so I may have missed this.

-Daniel said Jack had black eyes many times, caused by playing and one time by Lilly.

-Daniel said that Lilly had a black eye when she disappeared. The day before she and Jack went missing, Daniel said she injured herself while playing with a toy car.

In all my years growing up with THREE brothers and in the time my own daughter grew up neither of us EVER got a black eye. It takes force to injure an eye to the point where it gets black and puffy. Not just getting wacked with a toy.
Between these 2 things, and MBM leaving right away and never going back, I have hopped off the fence and stand firmly to one side only. IMO.

Yeah, I had two brothers and a cousin who lived next door to me so we were basically sisters, and we FOUGHT. Bruises, scratches, on the regular. Bites, sometimes. One of them hit me in the head once with a branch and I got a goose egg. I have a 'tattoo' - a tiny spot on my forearm still from where one of them stabbed me with a freshly sharpened graphite pencil when I was about eight. I never got a black eye, or remember any of them having one. I only got hit hard in the face by one of them once, that I remember, and it was memorable. It was deliberate, and it was punished accordingly by our parents. We were all neurodiverse, active kids, that spent half our time up trees or throwing things at each other that probably shouldn't be thrown, hitting each other with things like Meccano pieces that leave a sharply delineated perforated welt that looked like the strips from the edges of old style tractor fed printer paper. If anyone was going to get black eyes from rough play and fighting, it should have been us, but we didn't.

Children that young, that many black eyes, I really have trouble thinking of an innocent explanation that doesn't involve abuse.

I'd find that explanation more reasonable if it wasn't for the fact that neither of them reported doing (what I'd think of as) the most logical thing, which would've been to go over to DM's mother's trailer and ask if the kids were with her/if she'd seen them. JM's version of events also doesn't include DM or MBM asking her those basic questions

I'm curious about something. I've re-read a lot of the articles and can't seem to find an answer. I know that Cindy, ( Malehya's Mum ) talked to and videoed with her daughter and grandkids near daily, sometimes multiple times a day. But did she ever go into the trailer and visit, or was it just those calls? Anyone read any articles from MSM about that?

I don't recall off hand but @MistyWaters is usually great with memory recall on these minut details and will usually back up with a linked article if it has ever been quoted in msm

Didn't MBM's friend told something within her interview about visiting the property with M's mum (after the children had disappeared) and how all visitors were appalled by the conditions, MBM lived in? Something like that? I had the impression, M's mum didn't know before this visit. MOO

Thanks for remembering me but I don’t recall any of Maleyha’s family members mentioning visits to the trailer, where she lived prior to the children’s disappearance.

Me neither , I know BG mentioned she drove by it numerous times but never knew they lived there

But I don't recall any mention of mbms relatives visiting

And it was spoke about from posters in an earlier thread about CM being an RN and therefore being obliged to report if she seen anything relating to abuse or neglect of the children and I don't remember it being mentioned then either .

My impression from what I recall is that mbm was isolated there on the property and no relatives visited her there

The cbc article with mbms friend and sister seems to back up the idea that mbm didn't have anyone over as guests in the trailer

ETA to add the article

Has there been any movement in this case? What’s going on? Anything? These two beautiful kids need to be found. And whoever is responsible needs to be held accountable. I’m tired of missing children not being found. Where are you Jack and Lily? God Speed lil ones ❤️

Nothing public since they announced DM's arrest on unrelated charges at the end of Jan. He's due in court on March 2nd

Yes, I watched that video, a couple of times.

I was pretty sure she hadn't been there, thanks for confirming my thinking. Ha!

I asked because it just adds more to how incredibly lonely Malehya must have felt. The blacked out portions of the unsealed documents; I got the thought that she may have been dealing with postpartum depression. Or just some deep depression. Also, Belynda's thoughts "Everything she saw, from the junk-strewn yard to the cluttered kitchen, was the total opposite of the neat and tidy woman she used to know." Globe and Mail archived article As well as other little things that were said that relate to how completely different Malehya's life was before Daniel.

I feel so horrible for this young woman. The deep and black depths of depression is beyond understanding unless you have been there. Add in those living conditions when you are not used to living like that, especially with 2 kids and a new babe. A MIL that lives in the backyard in a 5th wheel, no real money, having to rely on your FIL for heat at times ( and that heat source is frickin' wood for a stove that takes up most of the living area ) , just nuts. No wonder she never had people over, she was thoroughly embarassed how she lived.

And I'm not slagging the Martell's either. They are a perfect example of generational poverty.

No bloody wonder she jumped in the car with her babe and left. I hope she's well. I hope she holds on.

And here's a link to the unsealed documents, although they are linked here earlier. Unsealed Documents
