i’m curious what we can expect from the court hearing! i read that it’s unclear whether it’s going to be livestreamed until it has already started because the judge will need to ask both parties if they have any opposition to cameras in the court room.

can we expect new facts, new statements?

after the last time we saw LM i definitely also wonder whether he will be escorted in a similar way or if it will be way more toned down, etc.

Luigi Mangione, 26, is set for a hearing in state court in Manhattan. Prosecutors and Mangione's defense lawyers are expected to provide updates on the status of the case and Judge Gregory Carro could set deadlines for pretrial paperwork and possibly even a trial date.

His Friday court hearing is scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. ET.

The first-degree murder charge alleges he killed the executive “in furtherance of an act of terrorism,” which is legally defined as an intent to intimidate or coerce the civilian population or a government unit. One of the second-degree counts also alleges Mangione committed murder “as a crime of terrorism.”

The judge is expected to ask the parties for an update on the exchange of evidence and, perhaps, set a trial date.

Mangione’s Pennsylvania-based attorney Thomas Dickey asked the court to allow remote appearances. The court agreed on Tuesday.

“The federal authorities will make the Defendant available to participate remotely in Blair County proceedings, Attorney Dickey will consult with his client and file a certification within thirty (30) days, stating the Defendant’s position on remote attendance at any future court events,” the court filing said. “In doing so, Attorney Dickey shall specify the types and nature of the proceedings, if any which the Defendant agrees to attend remotely.”

Mangione’s new website includes a link to a [removed] crowdfunding page. Supporters have been making donations to help pay his legal fees. The initial goal of $500,000 was reached quickly, and the new goal is $1,000,000.

I find it disgusting that these attorneys are seeking to make money off of the murder of an innocent man and father of two.

Any attorneys here? How is this not an ethics violation?

Elcox said: 'Jury selection is going to be critical in Mangione's case. It's a fascinating case.

'The CEO was a terribly unsympathetic figurehead of a company that has droves of horror stories about how [it] treated people who desperately needed various medical interventions.

'Juxtaposed against handsome, educated, talented young man with no criminal history.'

"Luigi is aware of the fund and very much appreciates the outpouring of support. My client plans on utilizing it to fight all three of the unprecedented cases against him," Agnifilo said in a statement.

Friedman Agnifilo singled out Adams’ comment on a local TV station that he wanted to be there to look “him in the eye and say, ‘you carried out this terroristic act in my city.’”

She accused New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other government officials of tainting the jury pool by bringing Mangione back to Manhattan in a choreographed spectacle involving heavily armed officers escorting him up a pier from a heliport.

This case sickens me. From the people glorifying LM to the mayor looking for publicity. Scum.

this is the PA code of ethics for attys:

do not see anything about fund raising

Go Fund Me got out of fund raising for criminal defendants:
(prohibited)
"8.10. the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes or crimes against minors;"

but GiveSendGo does not seem to have that restriction.

The Son of Sam Laws about prohibiting profit from books, movies, TV, .etc. are not universal and they are controversial-

A Son of Sam law is a law designed to keep criminals from profiting from the publicity of their crimes; for instance, by selling their stories to publishers ...

They do not seem to apply to fund raisers per se.

I'm sickened by LM and his so-called "fans," and also his legal team that is pushing for his notoriety. I hope the prosecution and/or the judge in this case call for a gag order and the defense has to shut down their money-raising, fan and editorial social media site.

I don't know that it is. Of course we have seen lots of instances were a crowdsource is used to raise funds for legal fees. But, I have never a case where an attorney or firm itself has set up a donation page like this. It is odd. There are some third-party payer concerns that could come in to play I suppose. Hoops that have to jumped through. Funds have to be properly kept in the attorney trust account. I don't think I would ever do this. I would be concerned about donors coming back and wanting their money back if something happens. I think this is something where bar associations will need to clarify some rules about this.

Lawyers were already in the courthouse when media arrived.

Media had hoped to see them walk by.

Perhaps Luigi is already in a cell awaiting court time.
