Possibly a dumb question, but what do you mean it doesn't accept guests from NYC? I'm not especially familiar with Hostels but I can't fully get my head around that. Is that a normal policy for hostels to not allow locals to stay? And why would that be?

Maybe so the hostel doesn't become a homeless shelter (or a cheap rent).

I'll say it, again: this is a good looking guy. Lots of people, especially women, will remember his face. That's a good thing. No blending in for him!
I bet he kept his face covered at all times and we can't know if was 'good looking' or Frankenstein. But I do understand and appreciate your Ted Bundy point. I think he was just all smiley at Starbucks because he's addicted to how they add double caffeine to their drinks and the clerk was probably just trying to get him to leave him/her a juicy tip.

He could be from a country where good-looking men are pretty much 95% of the male population and he could be the male version of a plain Jane among them. I can think of a few countries where this would be the case.

If the video on West 85th is indeed him, he's switched *back* to the black backpack. Which makes sense if you're trying to go undetected. Just a small detail I hadn't recognized prior. That means he either had it stashed somewhere or in his other bag.

I agree with the problem. Homeless folks can be from all over, particularly in a massive and densely populated place such as all those Burroughs and the intending area. And it IS NYC: Isn't it supposed to be easy-peasy to get a fake I.D.?

I can't determine one way or the other but the article states that it is the same backpack used in the shooting.

One is a vert common type, black adjustable strap.

The other gas a cream coloured strap, totally different size across the back of shoulders. More snug.

They released a screen shot of his face from a video. His face wasn't covered. We can see what he looks like.

Or a fake phone call, so he looked busy.

It was only 6:30am in the eastern time zone…
He could have been booking a last minute flight. MOO

"HI New York is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve hostellers. Accommodations are not available to local NYC residents." from their website when you book.

A bag in a bag, one common, one not. Black/cream, perfect to aid in getaway and messing up IDs

Spitballing here, but I personally think that photo of the suspect smiling makes him look a little like Timothee Chalamet. There was recently a lookalike contest in NYC. Wonder if he was there...

I also wondered if he switched to black clothes, too - the color of his jacket looked very different shades in each of the 2 Starbuks pics'

Black backpack inside of black/cream backpack which he may have discarded along with the weapon, IMHO.

There are people standing & milling around at all hours all over Manhattan - especially weekday mornings in midtown. He didn't need to do anything to blend in or avoid notice.

It has signs of 'sending a message' (writing on bullets?!) aka terrorism ... but a terrorist killing by an ideologue mad about insurance coverage?!? Ummm that sounds absurd.

Cannot imagine any foreigner or foreign entity would give a moments thought to an American health insurance company CEO ! Our healthcare system is unique, who around the world would even know who BT is.

if he was a professional assassin he'd have gone right up behind the victim & used one close-range headshot, then keep walking & be gone as the victim falls .... not fired multiple shots from feet away into the victim's shoulder & leg or whatever

The idea of this person laughing & enjoying himself & indulging in protein bars before committing this outrage against an innocent man is sickening
MOO

If the shooter is or was a university student, I'd think professors and students would dime him out in droves.

Except there's a picture without his face covered, the one in Starbucks that you mentioned. Also, he purchased two protein bars and a water at Starbucks, no coffee.

People get weapons both legally & illegally all the time. We know a young guy shot a man to death in Manhattan, in the back, in front of witnesses. He was willing to take an enormous risk, in fact a series of risks. This was a morally correct mission in his view, because he doesn't think the way most people do. "By any means necessary" is a oath for him. He played the long game to get here, and he's now read thousands of messages of support across SM, where he's being seen by many as a folk hero of sorts. I doubt documents, paperwork, biding time or gun laws faze him in the least.

I'd bet that the authorities have already received hundreds of tips. MOO

I couldn't do that work. I'm so gorgeous everyone is always fawning over me and adoring me. Oh, did that sound narcissistic maybe?
