I don't think it was personal or the shooter would've wanted his victim to see him when he shot him.
To shoot him in the back was an assassination IMO. I'm really surprised they haven't caught him by now. Maybe I shouldn't be, since the 2 photos don't really look like the same guy; the one where he is smiling looks like it might even be a young woman.

I find it odd that the shooter is eating and drinking prior to committing a murder. Just odd.
I don't, not at all. He seemed resolved to his decision and clearly knew he had time to snack and "hydrate" before committing the murder. Time would have been scarce during his get-away, IMO.

I really do sense an individual who had done the requisite soul searching well before the fact, whether as a solo actor or as one working at the behest of another.

I think it'll be soon, since it was reported that they have his DNA from the burner phone, and we have full face photos as well.

People get weapons both legally & illegally all the time. We know a young guy shot a man to death in Manhattan, in the back, in front of witnesses. He was willing to take an enormous risk, in fact a series of risks. This was a morally correct mission in his view, because he doesn't think the way most people do. "By any means necessary" is a oath for him. He played the long game to get here, and he's now read thousands of messages of support across SM, where he's being seen by many as a folk hero of sorts. I doubt documents, paperwork, biding time or gun laws faze him in the least.
I bet he and his cohorts spent much of those many days they were there prior to the murder hanging out in that little strip they knew this guy would be walking across the st. from the one hotel to the other. And everyone knows what time such conferences start, and all know that the organizers, and the Big Wigs, arrive early.

I'd bet that the authorities have already received hundreds of tips. MOO
But numerous tips about the same person would really expedite the case.
I do not, however, think he's a student anywhere. JMO

He's more like an anti-hero, but that was insanely brazen. IMO, that's why we are all so fascinated about this case. At this point, I'm extremely curious to know what his getaway plan was, and if he plans to hideout or stay on the move.

Yes, but if they are about different people, it would take a lot of time to sort through them. MOO.

It's apparently easy to get a gun in illegally in NYC but not a silencer! Mayor Adams of NYC, career LE, said he'd never seen one before

“In all of my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a silencer before,” Mayor Eric Adams said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday. “And so that was really something that was shocking to us all.”

One thing is he seems pretty young to pull this off. And he was alone (at least physically) as best we can tell for the crime. Takes a lot to do that -- the young age is surprising. JMO.

I read they think he dropped his personal fone, not a burner.... but that doesn't make any sense because he's a real dumb stick assassin to lose his personal fone. And what the heck was it about for him to choose to use a loony WWI gun that jammed? Maybe that choice of weapon, along with the bullets' words, are a part of the Big Message this terrorist group is sending. Surely a whole lot of people are feeling terror now. Who profits from this? Private security cos. surely are the ones who are right now, and who will be in the days, weeks, years to come, reaping huge fin'l benefits from this.

If the shooter is or was a university student, I'd think professors and students would dime him out in droves.

Sadly ... pathetically... probably not Columbia if he was of the favored type there. He did head to the UWS after, right?
Moo

If I have read the articles correctly, the gun he used did not have a silencer on it, but had kind of a built-in silencer? Is that correct?
Also, this gun did not jam, but it requires manual loading for each bullet? I may have gotten this completely wrong. I know nothing about guns.
Why would an assassin want to use a gun like this? Seems like it would be a tiny bit more complicated and take a tiny bit more time to load the weapon after each shot.

Silencer /supressor is legal to own in CT … but not to use hunting?

I agree with the problem. Homeless folks can be from all over, particularly in a massive and densely populated place such as all those Burroughs and the intending area. And it IS NYC: Isn't it supposed to be easy-peasy to get a fake I.D.?

No clue. It's been over 30 years since I've had one. Fun fact, it WAS a New Jersey I.D.! (It was just my roommate's expired license though...we looked enough alike for it to work.)

Yes - all of this! Hopefully someone who knows about guns will chime in.

I'm really starting to think this guy didn't necessarily think he was going to make it out of this "mission" alive. He made some questionable choices (i.e. Starbucks).

Spitballing here, but I personally think that photo of the suspect smiling makes him look a little like Timothee Chalamet. There was recently a lookalike contest in NYC. Wonder if he was there...

Moo … I can see Timothy a little.

I honestly get Jake Gyllenhaal side view smile vibes.

In no way am I a glorify the killer person or compare them to celebrities type.

Obviously it’s not Jake gyllenhaal. But something about the way he smiles in that photo reminds me of his smile.

Where has it been reported that DNA was found on a burner phone? Can't find that anywhere.

They train 18-year-olds to be soldiers, so not surprising to me at all.
