I’m leaning toward that as well. However, I would imagine that if it’s personal, there could definitely be overkill, because of the passion involved in the motive.

That being said, there are people who ruminate for long periods and take decisive action due to personal, passionate motives, but do so in a methodical or clinical manner. Sort of like the guy in (what was it, Texas?) who blew himself up in a camper van.

And this gun itself kind of lent itself to murder in that sort of way, as it wasn’t a semiautomatic where you could just crank off a dozen shots in seconds.

Typical motives for murder: love and money. Given the nature of this event, I’m going with money. Maybe the perp *is* an investor? He definitely has inside info about BTs plans that morning. That part is still the hook for me into these juicy theories. It just doesn’t make sense how perfectly it happened. Ah. It’s so hard to wait for the facts.

Just saw a video on the Daily Mail’s TikTok of this interview. I don’t think I believe it in light of all the NYPD CCTV footage imo.

Plot twist: this guy waited all night and told the perp when he was coming.

There is plenty of precedent for this sort of thing, as opposed to fantastical movie type scenarios that literally never happen.

I enjoy your posts and often agree, but I'm not sure about this comment.

This situation is already a fantastical movie type scenario in terms of the shooter's looks, the very public nature of the crime, and the manhunt.

Further, if you look back to the Cash App founder's murder, the motive was 180° from what the public imagined, but also totally mundane in a way. (Sex, drugs, and money are the motive for every murder, someone posted upthread.)

It's certainly possible that this was someone with a grievance against UHC or the US insurance system writ large. I'm just not sure a person with that motivation wouldn't be willing to die for their cause. The lack of a public statement and elaborate escape perplex me if this murder was meant to send a message.

Investigators now are working to track the possible whereabouts of the suspect, using thousands of investigative leads including the use of facial recognition technology and examining traces of DNA that could help find the killer, the people briefed on the probe said.

Investigators are still working to verify the information and aren’t yet certain they know the identity of the suspect.

It’s coming via leaks, but two things typically happen in both profile cases like this and the reporters who report on them (Miller and CNN specifically).

The sources don’t share things that may hurt the investigation.

The reporters (especially guys like Miller), don’t share things that they know they shouldn’t.

That’s why I think they’re closer than merely having someone in their crosshairs.

I like this idea ... e-bikes cost thousands IIRC, and expensive items left unattended in NYC, no matter how well chained up, don't last! If he'd chained the bike nearby in advance, it MIGHT still be there when he needed it but probably not in its original condition. Maybe someone at the hostel would know if he kept the bike stored with them or nearby.

While there are indeed high-end e-bikes that "cost thousands," perfectly serviceable ones can be had for somewhere in the $500 range, more or less depending on make, model, and class (Class meaning whether the motor is pedal-assisted or throttle-controlled.) That appears to be the price range of the one that the suspect can be seen on in surveillance video after he has exited Central park.
That being said, even crappy low-end conventional bikes can vanish or get scavenged for parts in NYC, even if locked up securely.
