It wouldn’t surprise me if this ended with a suicide. He might have only recently learned that despite all his efforts to keep his identity secret, his face was recorded on the hostel cctv. He may sense that his freedom is about to end

I’m watching CNN and and they did NOT say this.
Really? I’m not sure what to say to that because I’m watching and I watched them cross to their reporter who said what I wrote. About 10/15 mins ago. I think someone else on here also was watching & can confirm.

When you look at a Google map of Central Park with the satellite filter, it blows my mind that he was able to exit the park so quickly without getting turned around?
Maybe he's more local than we imagined.
There is no doubt he is very familiar and comfortable with NYC.

Lots of new info in this story

<snipped & BBM>
On Wednesday, the day of the shooting, the gunman left the hostel at 5:30 a.m. and likely rode a bicycle toward Midtown, Chief Kenny said. Though investigators do not have video of him taking the bike to the scene of the shooting, they are speculating that he did because it took him only 10 minutes to get from the hostel on 103rd Street to West 54th Street. The police are “still looking into” the possibility that he could have stolen the bike, he said.

At 5:41 a.m., he arrived at the Hilton and began wandering the area near the hotel, walking back and forth on West 54th Street, before entering a Starbucks, where he bought a bottle of water and a snack bar.

He fatally shot Mr. Thompson at 6:44 a.m. He then got back on the bike and made it into Central Park four minutes later. He left the park at 6:56 a.m., still on the bicycle.

Huge! If sources are saying that, it typically means that law enforcement is much further along than it sounds. We could be hours away, if it hasn’t already happened.

Perhaps or LE is trying to spook him into make a move that will identify him. Use a regular cell phone, contact an associate, come out of hiding, etc.

For sure someone recognized him in the unmasked photo.

So is the tik tok guy who said shooter was there all night, was HE there all night, watching the shooter be there all night?
Early reporting was some interviews with 2 guys who were “waiting in cars” on the street by Hilton when the shooting happened. One guy said the shooter was there all night waiting. Thinking that’s where the tik tok guy got this info…

He must be a big city person. It’s quite bonkers how he was able to leave Manhattan without being caught.

I certainly could be wrong, but that doesn't look like an e-bike.

Agreed. I think they have already identified the suspect and most likely have him under surveillance but are just dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s before making the arrest.
Please, somebody tell them to hurry up. It is 2.42 am in the UK and I would like this case solved so that I can go to bed.

Just wondering...why a New Jersey fake ID? Maybe so he could easily answer questions about that area (if someone had a minor inquiry about the ID). I skipped through a bunch of threads, but I remember reading the gun was originally sold in Connecticut? Maybe he's from the NYC area and familiar with the public transportation? Taking Amtrak to DC and hopping on that Greyhound (that originated in ATL) is easy enough. Even with the extra time before the murder, he was really familiar with the subway and very comfortable with the Ebike on Manhattan streets - like maybe he has lived there/spent time there.

I agree, but don't discount NAV and planning. I am a map fiend and like to visit places virtually to get a lay of the land. If the perp wasn't super familiar with NYC then I'd presume that he'd at least have scouted it out in advance. And, you can use nav on an ebike. I used it while visiting my son in Montreal. And I didn't know where I was going, but I knew where I wanted to end up.

He knew what he was doing. Didn't risk going to the main NYC bus terminal (Port Authority) when he was catching a bus out of town after the crime. Went to a small bus place (178th St.) instead. Well planned. JMO.

What I don't understand is why he didn't just stay at the Hilton. We have stayed at that Hilton in the past and had an exquisite room. Seems like a hassle to be staying some other place than the meeting place (unless the hotel was full with those in town to watch the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center).

When we visited NYC at Christmastime one year, we stayed in NJ and took a transit bus to the Port Authority every day. Going to the City just once during Christmas was our goal even though we didn't like how crowded it was.

JMO.
I was under the impression he walked from The Marriott facing the park, but maybe that was incorrect initial info. I wondered the same, but this Hilton was 4 stars and that particular Marriott was 5. Maybe he was very picky or using his Marriott points. I can’t figure that one out except for possible preference.

His aim was to get out of the area as quickly and far as possible - Which he did - seen 178th st., the Port Authority. What does he do next? I have no idea. Take a train or bus somewhere obviously. Has he stashed a car somewhere that he can access from the train or bus?
