He may have ancestors from the Middle East, but right now nothing points to him coming from anywhere else.

My guess is that he is American, whether US-born or first or second generation immigrant, and that if he is aligned to a group it's more likely to be of the left than the right on the basis that his apparent colouring is not what one might expect of a patriot/militia/white supremicist supporter. And that he may well have disappeared temporarily into a safe house somewhere belonging to any group or network whose support he may have.

I wonder what, if any, "chatter" has been overheard by the spooky wallahs who monitor loony/fringe groups. Did this really come completely out of the blue or was there "chatter" about something being planned even if the details were completely vague?

I wouldn’t assume the Monopoly money was left by the killer. It seems more like a troll who found the bag did it. It was in the park for two days remember. The TikTok generation seems to think this is a game. More so than the killer who was professional and methodical but not frivolous.

Sorry to poke holes in your theory, but that’s pretty elaborate? New Yorkers don’t mess with abandoned luggage/bags. We leave it alone and if it looks especially sketchy, report it to authorities. Nobody wants to touch something that could be a booby trap or explosives or body parts, or get their fingerprints on possible evidence!

And nobody just carries around Monopoly money to plant as fake clues, as far as I’ve ever known. Possible that someone picked up the backpack, took it home and then decided to put Monopoly money in it and brought it back to the park and covered it with leaves. But not too likely.

Interesting he hasn’t been very consistent about hiding his identity. Why so strict about keeping his mask on and face hidden for days in the hostel, only to reveal it in the taxi and when flirting. Is he kicking himself for letting his guard drop? Why not wear glasses / sunglasses to hide his face. Thats the most puzzling aspect to me.

Seems like the most amateur aspect of this whole situation. Maybe he knows he will be caught eventually and really doesn’t care.

He knew all along images would be found, but not until after he escaped. He's not going to make it easy on NYPD by showing his face, but he didn't care he was on camera. In fact, he committed the crime in full view of a camera.

In the cab, he knew perfectly well he was on camera. I'm surprised he didn't pull his mask down and stick out his tongue, but I guess that would ruin his cool-boy folk hero image.

23&Me is more or less bust and there are serious questions about the security of customer data and profiles. In any event, only Family Tree DNA and GEDmatch allow LE to use their databases for this sort of purpose.

I haven’t read the Firefighter lawsuit; were the alleged losses that bad? Prior to the events of last week, UNH stock was trading close to its all-time highs and well above where it traded following disclosure of the anti-trust probe that’s at the heart of the insider trading investigation. I don’t really see obvious economic harm to shareholders (i.e. motive) that followed from the insider trading allegations, not at the time of the murder anyway.

JMO but the insider trading stuff doesn’t seem like the most credible motive in light of the evidence.

100%. I'm sure if someone captured video of me sitting in a cab I'd have the same look: Checking the meter, making sure the driver is taking the most direct route, thinking about whether I'll have time to make an appointment or the next transport at my destination.

I don’t take cabs in NYC that often, but because of the partition between the back and front, convos with the driver just wasn’t a thing! But of cousre, he must have paid by cash, so maybe said a few more words than just a destination.

Some men have those darker eyelashes/darker eyelines (like Nestor Carbonell), but even if the killer is wearing makeup, he definitely seems to be a male based on brow ridge/jaw structure/face shape.

If you look closely at the middle photo it looks to me like those are fake eyebrows. And also the skin under those eyebrows seems to be rather pale. I am guessing he is wearing a darker down face makeup as well.

IMO, his brows are groomed. Take this from someone who gets her brows threaded and tinted every 2 weeks and has plucked her BFs' brows before. They don't grow in that neatly on their own.

Or they could be fake, stick on eyebrows.

I mentioned this earlier but there is something really, really off about the whole nose-mouth-chin-neck profile. it looks like something under the mask is sagging and creating really bizarre lines. The neck is strange, it could be a play of light or that could be a piece of prosthetic / silicone mask that is not tucked in. The shadow that follows the neck right up to the ear line / where the mask rests, is just unusual. Very dark and solid and undisturbed, like it's casting its own shadow. I am still convinced there is heavy use of highlighter around the eyes too which can drastically change their shape so it would not surprise me if some kind of disguise is being used, and if it's falling off / out of place due to all the costume changes and racing around the city. Not to mention sweating under the masks.

Might be a black surgical mask underneath the white one.

Same! I’m especially intrigued by what, if anything, he said to the hostel clerk who he flirted with. Did he have an accent? Someone in that job might ask about what a guest might be planning to do in the city, or answer questions about places to go, etc. I wonder if he asked any significant questions. It makes sense we haven’t seen any interviews with her, though… investigators likely have asked her to not speak to the media.

Puffer coats are bulky. Where was it? Would not fit in the backpack. He was in the cab 1 hour after the shooting. Where did he leave the puffer?

Puffer coats can be squished down to the size of a cantaloupe if you use a compression sack, I use them when backpacking.

I think the perp is male and I don't think he is wearing makeup though I can see why people think so. I think the photos show him as he is.

But, I do sense a well-planned script designed not only to commit the crime and escape, but to capture everyone's attention and to convince people the killer is the good guy.

To me, that manipulation of people's emotions is the primary motive, and the public is cooperating and cheering for a murderer.

It takes brains, a sense of purpose, and TIME to do that. The planning took longer than the 10 days he was in NYC, imo.

This is not a sloppy criminal.

The unmasked photos are called the "money shots" because he only removed his mask to flirt. He wasn't disguised at that time - didn't expect flirting, but couldn't resist.

The hostel clerk asked him to remove the mask to check in. Some reports mention flirting, others don’t. She needed to match the face to the ID. Perhaps I’m overestimating him but I think he expected that check and also expected the other surveillance footage to emerge. He expected the other items to be found.

He knew none of these things would be linked to him before he escaped. He was right – it took days.

So why did he only care about making a safe escape from New York? Why didn’t he care about later evidence emerging? I think that’s the key question. Because he certainly cared about not being caught while he was in New York. And he didn’t think twice about leaving items to be found later.

I think the NYPD are making less progress than many expected. The release of the taxi photo doesn’t provide much more additional facial hints than the Starbucks or hostel photos.
