Would LE be running tests on the bullet markings to see if this gun had been used in other crimes? How much would a silencer affect those markings? TIA.
The inherent marks on a bullet from the barrels rifling is usually not altered by a silencer or flash suppressor. If it touched the bullet in any way it would alter the trajectory of the bullet. Anyone with a gun sigh dialed in for would not want anything altering the accuracy.

I think what the previous poster was trying to say is that no one has been definitively able to identify him. Do you think someone from your extended network would be able to definitively identify you if similar photos of you came out? Not a personal question so just a question to ask ourselves. I think each of us is unique in that someone in our extended social network will be able to definitively identify us from some pictures. That has not happened for this guy. No coworker, college friend, professor, guy he had beers with long ago or shot hoops with has come forward. Why is that? Are his features really that generic?

No, not at all. It would be so out of context. In his case, though, someone close to him even if they didn't recognize him in the photos might put 2&2 together knowing the grudge he had with the insurance company. It's just a matter of time.

With cops I imagine and hopefully under protection. He will know accent even if no small talk and where he picked him up and dropped him.
I wonder if the shooter was very untalkative- he could have said "hi. checking in" at the hostel and "GW bus terminal- cash?" to the cab driver and no one would remember an accent. He supposedly wore a mask a lot. The HI Hostel site makes it sound as if they are friendly there and help you "meet people" and they have a patio (warmer weather?) where people can gather, but maybe he never spent any "free" time there.

The problem with women's dress for me is that LE pegs him at 6'1", no?
I saw 5’10” on some news articles. He is tall for a woman but not impossibly tall. I doubt he would wear Muslim hijab though. Would attract unnecessary attention and doubts.

Someone mentioned an ebike can be disassembled and he could have scattered the parts hither and yon including in that pool of water
he rode the ebike out of central park, so i don't think he threw any of it in the water. they're searching for the gun in that water, not the ebike.

Am UK based so not sure what it is like in USA but I have seen many females in UK that are taller than me, I am 6ft

In the U.S., 6’1” is in the .01% percentile of height for women. Taller than 99.99% of women.

They have DNA from his phone, and other items as well. They likely also have it from his hostel room.
true on so many possibilities in the hostel room.... even his dirty sheets were unlikely washed by the very next day!!!

I did find, during Covid, that if I ran into some one I knew fairly well, even masked, I could easily tell who they were. However, we do not know if this person cut his hair, shaved, got contacts, changed his whole wardrobe right before this activity. IMO. If he is a loner or if his most recent peer group is other "dissidents(?)" they will not be turning him in. IMO.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>
What are the odds he just found a taxi that quickly? Any chance that image of his making a phone call was actually him booking the taxi beforehand and that's why he got rid of the phone soon after the shooting? Jmoo (the opinion of someone totally unfamiliar with NYC's taxi situation)

Many on here have wondered if the shooter was trans, in this day and age when there is so many trans people about no one would bat an eyelid if they saw a guy in women’s clothing, especially if they had no knowledge said person was wanted for murder

The GW bus station has an ATM on the main concourse: would this have a camera in it? Potentially being able to catch the suspect in the background, while someone else is using the ATM, & maybe see what direction the suspect went?

Also of note: GW has no storage lockers (or at least I was wondering! ; ) GWBBS FAQs

yes, I suspect he is a bit of a loner, so the pool of possible IDers is much smaller.

One news story on this case mentioned that the police would use NIBIN or the National Integrated Ballistic Integration Network for this purpose.

I can't in any universe imagine the shooter is trans.

I can assure you that thousands of people have come forward to identify him. The problem is that LE has not been able to ID him from the thousands of tips.
Same thing right, the tips did not work cos he doesn’t have a presence in the US. If he did, his identity would be out by now?

  • #1,377
no one has come forward to *publicly* identify him, at least that we're aware of. maybe a little odd? idk. NYPD has received hundreds of tips related to the photos.
I suspect there could be people who can identify him but are withholding information due to their sympathy for him.

Perhaps he was wronged by the insurance company and it was well known within his family and friend circle?

The buses going out likely take cash. I don't think their rates are too high either. Sounds like they travel about 20-25 miles or so. I bet it's like $7 at the most for the fare. If his goal is just trying to get to NJ. (One route has a fare of $5.15)

There is Greyhound and some longer routes, but they don't come very frequently. If his goal was to get out of NYC, he could have hopped a shuttle or NJ transit. They come every few minutes.

Bryan Kohberger didn't have a criminal past, either, and yet they discover his identity through genetic mapping. If they have your DNA, they have everything they need these days to find out your identity...eventually. Sure, it's easier for them if you've already commited a crime and are in their database; they just do a DNA match. It's only a matter of time before they find out who this perp is. Now all they have to do is catch him. Good luck with that!
I think they collected trash at his parent's home and genially matched that to the DNA previously found at the crime scene? If I remember that right.
