"A determination of the suspect’s identity should come soon, former FBI profiler Mary Ellen O’Toole said.

I’m thinking we’re going to know who this is within a matter of a few more days, if that,” O’Toole told CNN. “He’s completely outnumbered. With that kind of manpower behind their efforts, they’re going to come up with the information that identifies him.”

The suspect made missteps before and after the attack that could lead authorities closer to finding him, experts say.

“The ability to stand up against that kind of an investigation, one person can’t do it, no matter how arrogant you are,” she said. “You’re bound to make mistakes.”

Some of the suspect’s actions – such as pulling his mask down on camera and leaving behind inscribed shell casings, a burner phone and a partial fingerprint on a water bottle – have only added to the clues left behind for authorities."

Underline and bolding my me.

it's just not unusual for a C-suite executive to walk a city block without security. the people around him would probably call him paranoid if he demanded a security detail for such a walk.

The walk is extremely short...since BT wasn't a high-profile figure probably assumed he was safe.
But didn't his wife mention recent threats?
That would make sense to ask for security in light of the threats. I would not call anyone paranoid if they received threats, I'd call them cautious and practical.

NYPD have offered a $10,000 reward and the FBI have offered a $50,000 reward.

Why do you think United Healthcare haven't offered any money as a reward, despite being a multi-billion dollar company?
It's astonishing to me that they haven't. It is a minor expense with an unambiguous, supportive message to the surviving family and traumatized co-workers. There is no more concrete way to say, we at UHC share your grief. Tangible assistance to get the survivors some justice is a clear, kind message that the company stands behind its executives and their families.

He seemed extremely calm, and careful.
He did indeed. This was not some spur of the moment thing for him. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and made sure he did it. If he'd been more careful choosing his weapon there would have been many more shots fired, ammunition supplies depending, of course.

Ok, thanks for explaining this. I don’t believe BT arranged this hit on himself either.
I don't understand why it's even under discussion in the first place. Community rules are we aren't supposed to suggest that. Whatever we think of the industry, it seems anti-victim to suggest that a murdered man committed professional misconduct - it necessarily means an insurance exec would be committing insurance fraud.

A week ago today: Assassination of a businessman on the streets of NYC? Oh my, that would be barbaric. Maybe in another country, but not HERE in America. No, that should never happen HERE (unless it's a love tangle, and then, well, it happens).

A few days later: Yay! A businessman was killed! He deserved it too! A cute guy was the killer! Woohoo! We hate insurance companies - yay, one of 'em is dead! Run, killer, run! Another country behind this? No way, this is all-American, baby.

:(

yes, it's clearly victim blaming and should be reported as such

Thank you! Good hypothesis about his fake ID. Maybe he frequently visited NJ (had family there) and even had help from a cousin who looked similar in getting some kind of ID - that's what teens do.

I'd be surprised if he's only 18-19, though, given the careful planning of this crime - but stranger things have happened, for sure.
Looks 28-30 ish to me. During the Laundrie thread we discussed how easy it is to get fake id. But looking at my most recent usa passport, seems pretty high tech. (I know they weren't referring to a passport this time.) Even my foreign dl would be hard to fake what with the holograms, etc.

But, even if he'd never been there before, ten days is a good amount of time to figure out where things are and how you're going to carry this out.
I’ve lived my entire life outside NYC, have been there hundreds if not thousands of times. I still get mixed up. It might be my own sense of direction, but this guy either knew the city well or spent a lot of time planning his routes.

I heard the LE had a name, now I see no name.. Is this just journalistic inaccuracy?

BREAKING | NBC News: A man is being questioned in the CEO shooting in Pennsylvania, two senior law enforcement officials say.

Assuming the suspect took a southbound bus from the George Washington bus station, this could track. You can get to Philadelphia from the station in about three hours, and Eastern PA/Philadelphia is densely populated enough to "blend in," so it could have been an attractive spot for the suspect to flee to.

It appears the suspect was trying to change transportation modes to keep the police off his tracks: bus, subway, bike, taxi. Maybe after taking a bus from GW bus station, he transferred to an Amtrak or SEPTA train?

Must be different in USA, on 3 occasions I have seen billionaire Daniel Levy the owner of Tottenham Hotspur premier league team on a London Underground train twice he got off alone, no security detail despite being a billionaire and hated by many of his own fans and rival fans

I cannot speak about Daniel Levy in the UK, but I do know about the ones in the USA, some make a big deal of their security teams others do not and have causal undercover security.

i do find this a little odd, but maybe they were told not to at this point, for some reason?? (although i'm not quite sure what they reason would be...)

Do you have a link to a LE or MSM source stating that the weapon was not a B&T pistol?

I don’t know what kind of pistol it was, I only know what LE has said so far - and that is that the weapon was a B&T Station-SIX - 9.

Would love for LE to comment more on the weapon used, as if it was not a B&T Station SIX - 9, whoever identified it as such in the beginning created a 1-mile deep rabbit hole that resulted in wasting a lot of LE resources.

I have always thought the B&T was an odd choice. Maybe LE knows that their first reports were incorrect, but are withholding that info, but I see no reason for them to do so. I don’t think giving the perp a false sense of security re: LE knowing the type of weapon will change how he behaves from this point forward.

Did LE find a weapon in the lake but not divulge that information?

All jmo
It categorically wasn't a B&T. They don't operate like that. It was a regular semi-automatic 9mm pistol.

Have law enforcement said that it was one of those guns? If they have then they are wrong.

From the very brief reading on them I've done, B&T Station-Six 9 is not the correct designation anyway. It's B&T VP9 (for Veterinary Pistol). The Station six is the same gun but chambered in 45ACP. The figure six coming from it's magazine capacity.

Lets not forget that initial reports, even from LE or respected media outlets are very often wrong, especially about firearms - most of the media still refer to cartridges as "bullets"! The rifle found in the book depository when JFK was shot was identified as a Mannlicher-Carcano. No such rifle has ever existed!

I figured we would get a nugget of info today to keep this from falling off the front page. Hopefully this PA questioning is a valid lead.

Here's the weird question...BT hiring his own hit is not on my list, but what if it is revealed to be a possibility?
I'm waiting to see if Le suggests it.

I don’t think the person who posted this comment meant any harm or was victim blaming, she was simply stating her opinion.
