I think he was just exhausted. If he is a lone wolf with no help, he was going to run out of cash and resources pretty soon. Probably lack of sleep as well. Came in with a bang (literally) and went out with a whimper.

I want info about how the arrest went down. So curious. Did they clear McDonalds? Haul him off the bus? Casually walk up and say, "Hey, what's up? What brings you to Altoona?"

Did the perp panic? Or accept the questioning? Did he talk or refuse?
He calmly shot a guy in the sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan, I don't think he panicked. They probably started to question him, he gave the fake ID a shot, they either clocked the ID as fake right away or continued with the questioning and a search.

Why give LE the same fake ID?

JMO
i question this too...i feel like i would just insist i didn't have one with me. so maybe he did the same and they searched him and found it? reporting can often be misleading and he may not have actually presented it JMO

Vending machine would be a better choice, or a busy grocery store with self-checkout. I don't get why he would be carrying evidence on him. That's doesn't add up. Someone who doesn't want to get caught would have altered their appearance and lay low and certainly not carry anything tying him to the shooting.
I am absolutely flummoxed. Something doesn't add up in his behavior. Or, at least, with what we currently know. I do wonder if he wanted to get caught.

Was he on a Greyhound bus, and the Greyhound bus stopped in Altoona at the McDonald's?

Today, this guy will ride in the back of a car that has the same cage as the taxi he rode in. But he won't be going to a bus station.

Two senior law enforcement officials say the man in Altoona being questioned had the name "Marc Rosario" on his fake NJ ID. Three sources familiar with the matter say the suspected gunman checked into the hostel using a fake NJ ID with the name “Marc Rosario.”

What are the rights of someone in the case of a police officer just coming up to you and asking for ID/searching you? Just genuinely curious (and making sure the perp doesn't have something to argue in court that gets him off). Did they go up to him and say we suspect you were in a crime, what is your name, let us see your ID? How did they know it was fake so quickly? go to the patrol vehicle and run it/call it in?
The ID he showed to LE matched the ID he used at the hostel where he stayed in New York City.

The man detained in the McDonald’s had written a “manifesto,” according to two law enforcement officials.

I KNEW that Monopoly money wasn't random!

From the article:

"The handwritten manifesto found on the person of the man detained in Altoona criticized health care companies for putting profits above care, according to a senior law enforcement official."

Yes, though it might be at least an hour or 2 away, since 1st NYPD has to arrive there (in PA), then do their own questioning; then do the arrangements for a conference which I assume doesn't take long.
Yeah, I am not expecting a presser or official word until after NYPD shows up and does its thing.

I really want to see video of the McDon's apprehension.

Just exhausted and running out of money and options is my guess.

Red emphasis mine.
If this turns out to be the killer ...

Hope the tipster receives the reward !
They've earned it.
Imo.
They can save it to pay towards any health care costs that get denied!

I'd love to know more about this, could you elaborate? What sorts of posts? I've wondered about this the whole time.
To become a WS member, don't you have to supply your email address? I don't remember. I guess one could fake one.
I always suspected the guy was reading here, but a member? Though there have been 2 posting individuals I had concerns about.

Five days on the run and only makes a 5-hour bus ride outta town? Interesting to know how he spent the long weekend.
(That was a westbound schedule, correct? Unlikely he was returning after forgetting something)

HUGE: Live on CNN

Working off of a tip, police stopped someone traveling by bus. Recovered suppressor and fake ID's. Person fit the description of the photos of the suspect.
Let's hope it is him! But doesn't make sense with how this seemed to be well planned and thought out. Fingers crossed he got cocky and as others have said sloppy.

2 main thoughts:

1. How did he know when / where BT was going to enter the conference? That's either lucky... or had inside knowledge. Its almost the most "sophisticated part of his plan", otherwise the rest while pretty detailed, not that crazy to pull off

2. If he was really ideological, he was very dumb to not have emailed his manifesto while on the run..it would have been published if sent to 20 different news orgs and also to some true crime people etc

His message would have gotten read WAY more then it will ever now in a trial etc

His post killing actions and digital media / message dissemination make him not really seem that bright

So that all goes back to did he get INSANELY lucky that BT was walking at that entrance, at that time, with no security detail, or did he have insider knowledge / accomplice or some unique way of knowing BTs schedule. Quite baffling

Why the heck didn't he pay cash for a burger at McDonalds ? Makes no sense.
My bet is that the reporting is garbled. The ABC story linked earlier said that a customer at McDonald's tipped off the police after recognizing him from the pictures shared by LE. Apparently, everyone got back on the bus and it continued on its way. The bus was then intercepted by local police when the fake NJ ID, gun and manifesto were found with his belonging.

True but if it were me, not even a fresh Quarter Pounder couldn't drag me off of that bus. Bada-ba-babah <yes, I had to sing that out loud while I typed it thanks to @Vaderman >

Why give LE the same fake ID? Surely if he had one, he had access to more than one? This whole thing just feels ridiculously OTT and I'm not convinced there isn't somebody else involved. I swear I am the most anti-conspiracy, Occam's poster around, but this seems off to me.

I'm so on the same page. This feels so off. JMO

Gosh. If you were smart you would have ditched the "Marc Rosario" ID. Gave him far too much credit.
