This is what I've been wondering the whole time. I still think the most logical explanation is he's a student, his family is not local and they did not expect him to return home for Thanksgiving, and school was on break so it was not abnormal for him to not be on campus.

Yes, I think the timing was planned because BT was in town for the conference, but I can't help but think the 10 whole days (!!) he spent in NYC was planned purposely around a pre-planned break from school wherein him being away would not have been suspicious at all.
A lover to spend time with?

Last thread someone mentioned he could be from Iran …. It’s difficult for Iranians to get a visa to USA. Even Iranians who are European citizens. Esp if have military service in Iran.
Though we all know not everyone arrives to USA with proper documents

The University I attended, in NY State, did not have Thanksgiving or Easter break. They just did not have week-long breaks during term, or even long weekends.

At the risk of sounding stupid...Can someone explain what a HOSTEL is? I can't seem to wrap my brain around rooming with other people I don't know. But it sounds like something that is common.
it's like a hotel, but much cheaper because you're sharing a room with multiple strangers. it's typically for young adventurous backpacker types, but you will find older people there sometimes as well.

Investigators believe they were able to score DNA samples from several pieces of evidence discovered at or near the murder scene, law enforcement sources told ABC News on Friday.

The samples are currently at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be run through databases for possible match, the sources said. That process could take a couple of days.

THE INVESTIGATION

NYPD's Crime Stoppers bureau has fielded hundreds of tips flooding in from around the region and the country.

Unconfirmed reports of sightings on Friday have sent law enforcement responding in cities like Atlanta and states like Texas.
On Thursday, an Amtrak train was stopped in Connecticut and an LIRR train was stopped by MTA police.

Detectives in the Crime Stoppers bureau worked through the night fielding calls and tips at 800-577-TIPS and online. Police are encouraging everyone to come forward even with the smallest bit of information.

The 10-day period between the suspect's arrival and the murder is the focus of investigative efforts.

most recent update is they found his backpack in central park. all it contained was a jacket and monopoly money. they saw him boarding a bus that went to atlanta, but he could have gotten off at any stop along the way. also we got new photos from him in a taxi he took after the shooting. that's about it I think.
Thank you!

This is moving seemingly so slow. I wonder if they’re even gonna catch him…

I'm not suggesting he committed the perfect crime, but he is almost smarter than you're giving him credit for.

How do you know he drank from that bottle, and that it's his?
Similarly, why do you think he used that particular phone (he could have had two and kept the one that touched his face)

I'm very confident he took precautions to avoid leaving DNA behind him. And he is playing with the police.
My opinion is that he probably doesn’t fully understand how DNA works.

The bus he took AFTER the shooting went to Atlanta? I only heard he went to the bus terminal and didn't come out.

Re: Thanksgiving...I think it's as easy as, "sorry Mom/whomever, I won't be home for Thanksgiving this year. I'm spending it with friends/girlfriend's family/I have to work/etc." Many families wouldn't question that, or require Proof Of Turkey Consumed.

I don't believe there is conclusive proof of how her left GWB bus station, or information has not been released.

The Greyhound bus south to NJ and points south to Altanta didn't leave GWB until 6 hours after he arrived there. I don't think it's reasonable to think he hung around for 6 hours that day.

Makes more sense that he took one of the NJ buses to point in NJ. He could have gotten off that bus in Newark and then transferred to other buses or even the Newark airport, and been completely out of the NY -NJ metro area by that afternoon.

Agree.

Also, if he’s not American, then Thanksgiving Day is not a holiday.

If he’s an American but from an immigrant family, he may or may not celebrate Thanksgiving.

Of my neighbors and friends who immigrated here, it’s about 50/50. Some consider it irrelevant to them, and some are very eager to enjoy an American tradition.

JMO and experience.

Could someone he knows be afraid to ring Crimestoppers because they worry he could hack the msg?

Exactly. It's not known to where he traveled, or how.
He CAME to NYC by a bus that originated in Atlanta, but it's not confirmed anywhere that he went back to Atlanta. I would highly doubt that anyway, with investigators crawling around that city.

Yeah, I looked up a few random universities around NY/NJ and it appears most had Wednesday-Friday off (11/27-11/29) so, assuming he attends school fairly locally or his school is on a similar schedule, if he arrived in NYC on 11/24 (Monday) he would've had to take off possibly just Monday/Tuesday plus the following Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. That's not that unusual IMO. Especially if he didn't have Monday/Tuesday classes.
