They tracked him on cameras after he had already gotten out of the city. Sometime in the future, there will be an AI system that identifies when a murder happens on camera. Police will get automatic notification. Cameras will track the assailant real time. He will be caught within minutes. If society allows for such a system. Good chance they say this is just too invasive.
I got fooled by the cameras tracking him- I thought it was in real time- duh

Eric Adams

This was cleared up several threads ago, repeatedly. The Eric Adams comment has been clarified – he was asked whether the shooter’s name was known, replied to say that they wouldn’t be releasing that and his office later clarified his statement. Adams had meant that they wouldn’t be saying whether or not they had his name. The mayor’s wording was a car crash. Every report refers to the NY Post article, which now says this:
Mayor Adams declined to say whether investigators already had the suspect's name when asked at a Harlem event.
“We don’t want to release that now,” Adams said. “If we do, we are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”

The original misinterpretation of his remarks made it across the world. The corrections did not. The gaffe that keeps giving makes its reappearance here every few hours.

‘The net is tightening’ on UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s suspected killer, NYC Mayor Adams says
Bbm.

It's as if EA was trying to say something, without actually saying it.
Prob. not his only 'car crash' statement, imo.
Everyone misspeaks at one time or another.

Re. the red bolded : So they know, but we do not.
Sounds like it, anyway ?
I wouldn't blame people for wanting to know, the original statement sounded like they have a name, but again it's not a bad idea to withhold it.
Surprised they haven't caught him yet.
Omo.

I've never seen a hostel where guests would leave the sheets on the beds, you strip the bed and turn in the bedding or pile it on the floor. The towels are used in a shared bathroom in the hallway then turned in. I would think they couldn't pick out his sheets in the laundry, they are all the same. If he was concerned about them finding the hostel, he would not have left them in the room. Then again, maybe he thought LE would never realize where he had stayed. MOO
Usually if towel and bedding are included (or a small fee added), it's part of the checkout process to deposit everything into a large laundry bin by the front desk, not always.

I strongly suspect we will find no complicated conspiracy here - just a youngish vigilante with a flair for the dramatic who wants more than 15 minutes of fame. Who found a “cause” and planned a spectacle with meme clues and all. It’s a sign of the chaotic times.

he might have brought a sheet or a bivy with him- some people never sleep on hotel sheets either. I am not sure how much transfer he could avoid esp. with hair. He never seems to be wearing gloves but I am not sure if me might have had something on his hands. Or he might have decided he was on a mission, and if caught, well, whatever. IMO.
Hmm good point. A lot of backpackers travel with a sleeping bag liner for hygiene, so it wouldn't look out of place. Plus, places like REI sell mummy style sleeping bag liners, which would help mitigate hair transfer.

I feel like there’s only 2 real ways this could play out.
1. It’s someone who lost their father or mother or someone close to them and the insurance company denied the claim, ruining a family business or causing other chaos in someone’s life. So much so that they figured my life is over anyway, I’m taking him too. Or paying someone to do it.
2. Or it was some extremist who wasn’t happy with what they read in that book.
I think 1 is most realistic because of how well planned it was and the way the shooter’s stance was and confidence doing something like that in broad daylight.
I still think they will find the ID of the shooter, but I don’t think they’ll find him. And if they don’t find him then they can never interrogate him to find out why it happened.

This guy has been pretty strategic. He has done his research on so many levels. He should know about the capabilities of DNA - particularly familial forensic DNA. There is likely alot of DNA available to police, but it might take time to identify him - they need to parse out out fake DNA samples the killer may have planted on his route (he is playing with everyone with the bullet inscriptions and Monopoly money, why not despose of coffee cups and water bottles, not his, along the way), all the various DNA profiles at the hostel and any limitations on DNA matching available with regards to familial DNA given his potential ethic background (as we know certain ethic backgrounds are less represented in these dna/geneological databases - I know first hand as tracing my husband's history, who is of middle eastern dissent, has been challenging).

I think he is so committed to his cause (this crime took huge endeavor on his part) - exposing UHC for their failure he sees to provide care and being a monopoly that he is willing to die for this cause. He doesn't want to get caught, but given the commitment he has given this, he will die for it. Ever day he isn't caught he is reveling in.

Of course, would love your thoughts.

Yes. A quick flight from EWR to London or Paris could have been achieved before his face was plastered across the news. He could then bide time and travel by land to his actual destination.
In hindsight, maybe, but at the time you don't know what you don't know. In fact, we still don't know whether police have actually identified him or not. It would conceivably be in their best interest to plaster his face around (so if he's seen, folks call it in), but keep actual identifiers to themselves in hopes he does do something that sets off flags while believing he still hasn't been identified.

It's as if EA was trying to say something, without actually saying it.

That’s exactly it, but not in the way you are thinking. He’s trying to say something but doesn’t actually have anything to say — but he’s trying to let on like he does. The police aren’t telling him a thing, as he can’t be trusted to keep his mouth closed.

It looks to me like he has a white shirt under the black shirt or the black shirt has a white trim around neckline like https://www.amazon.com/Sailwind-Short-Sleeve-Contrast-T-Shirt/dp/B0BTVR4BZM.
The Starbucks photos seems to have similar white ring around neck but it's blurry.
I only question that because of the angle of the white edge in the image of him by the taxi. It isn’t round, and even if he were in the process of closing the taxi door, would it cause the collar to take on such a “squished” shape? At first glance, I thought the white line was the wire for EarPods, which would follow similar line as a hood.

Totally agree with you. On this point, it really makes me wonder if this search goes on long term, if he’ll get frustrated as general public interest wanes and media coverage slows down. I wonder if that will trigger him to reach out to the media anonymously and release more info as to his motive to call attention back to his cause.

Is the 12/4 5 am spotting of the suspect on the UWS near the Frederick Douglass Houses, with an e-bike battery, still a thing?
Now that LE has stated (upthread) that they believe he e-biked from the hostel to the area of the Hilton (due to him getting there in only ten minutes), I would guess he had the e-bike stashed someplace near the hostel, but had brought the battery inside overnight to keep it safe / charge it up / keep it warm.

I suppose if he'd worn it for several days, it could droop. But I can see there's a separation almost, is it the gaiter he had on like https://www.amazon.com/SUNMECI-Gait...1435178298&psc=1#immersive-view_1733715662918

There are different levels of security. Some just protect when you visit dangerous areas, like some Latin American or African countries. Others protect your home and workplace. The most expensive and intrusive is where a security team goes everywhere with you 24/7. IDK what type BT had.
No mention of security in UNH Proxy Circular

Why would he travel to Canada?

Canada has an extradition treaty with the US.

If he fears flying out of a US airport, those same fears apply to Canada: the US and Canada share intelligence and would simultaneously flag him in both countries if he tries to fly out.

And crossing a border crossing requires a valid passport - He'd risk being arrested if they had him flagged.

So it makes no sense for him to cross the border into Canada. Either escape and hide in the US, or fly out of the country via a US airport... flying out of North America via Canada offers no benefit to him, only heightened risk.
If he was able to make it to Mexico, and he’s now had enough time, he could easily walk across the border at Tijuana. Probably other places too, that’s just the one I know. They don’t care who walks into Mexico, only out. Then he could hop on a bus to Mexico City and catch a flight to anywhere, or get lost there. I doubt if Mexican authorities are going to bend over backwards to help American LE just now.

There were 3 spent shell casings and 3 live rounds found at then scene. The gun was working normally, ejecting the spent casings, but the perp was racking the slide after each shot in order to eject each of the live rounds, which had the writings on them. The gun is likely just a suppressed 9mm semiautomatic, and not a rare, WWII era bolt action Welrod. JMHO. There is a YouTuber and video that explains this theory in detail.
If that were the case though, why wouldn’t he have simply put the three cartridges with the red permanent marker words on them in the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions in the magazine?

That way he could fire the gun uninterrupted like a semi auto and not worry about all the unnecessary racking until he had fired the first three cartridges / kill shots. Then he could have just racked the slide three straight times to eject cartridges 4, 5, and 6?

For that matter, if it was only the live rounds that had words written on them, why did he even bother to put those rounds in the magazine to begin with? They would only slow him down. Why not just drop them on the ground after the shooting?

On the hostel site it says no personal bedding, stating hygiene as a factor.

He used their sheets, left them behind.

my
So how old does he look? 17-18? I have asked this before and not gotten many answers. I think he looks 22-23, maybe 24-26.

I also think he's modifying his look a bit with cosmetics - but we shall see. He could be a young-looking 30 year old, frankly.

IMO.
My kids are 24, 23 and 20. To me he looks slightly older... 25-26.

Of the scenarios running around, there is the recurring mention of the sizable amount of money the assailant must have had access to for this mission.

Something I had been pondering is if it’s the scenario of this person being personally affected by a denied claim, more so passing of a loved one/family member, perhaps it was a form of inheritance, life insurance payout, etc. that they came into that provided funds.

I do think this is someone who had to have close access to BT’s positioning, schedule etc. But maybe someone decided to use the funds mentioned above to “splurge” on a mostly well planned, somewhat professional all out hit.
