Wait, are the Marshalls now involved? I think I missed that today.
Yes.

Police sources say investigators with the NYPD and U.S. Marshals Service have been dispatched to Atlanta and along the Greyhound bus route stops between Atlanta and New York City.

So it’s NYPD, Atlanta PD, FBI, Marshals, and likely many other departments along that route and around the country.

Has the Peter Pan bus system come up yet?
https://peterpanbus.com/locations/

Up until 2017, they were under the same ownership as Greyhound. Perhaps the two are still conflated to some people? As a former, frequent Peter-Panner prior to 2017 (link below), I myself am one who didn't know of the separation until 5 minutes ago! So when I hear any ticketing references to Greyhound, I assume[d] it could be from any of their lines without specifying. That seems unlikely though. IMO.

and yes, it's possible he came from elsewhere before and IF he boarded the bus in Atlanta
eta...also he could have come from anywhere to board that bus at one of the stops on the route before reaching NYC
Ahh, perfect. 'Ppreciate it!

One thing I will say.... this guy will have to be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. The US Marshals service will never give up trying to find this guy. They are extremely persistent and given how high-profile this is, he will always be a top priority.

Reading their website - Fugitive Investigations | U.S. Marshals Service - it says there were 772 international removals (extraditions, deportations, and expulsions) in 2023 made by the Marshals.
Fugitives are already charged and have warrants. This suspect doesn't even have a name yet. They don't replace or investigate for the LE agency that has jurisdiction over this murder, they are just helping as are other agencies right now.

Often the rule is 75 miles.
JMO
So that would absolutely rule out many places in northern NJ like Newark. I guess it depends on what address was on the DL

However I did look quickly on the hi hostel site and didn’t see anything about residency restrictions so maybe they don’t have that rule

Timeline of what we know through msm:

Nov. 24

10:11 p.m. — The suspected shooter arrives in New York City on a Greyhound bus at the Port Authority terminal. The bus originated in Atlanta and made six or seven stops on the way to New York. Police could not immediately determine where he got on the bus.

The man then takes a taxi to the area of the New York Hilton Midtown and is there for about a half hour.

About 11 p.m. — The man takes a taxi to the HI New York City Hostel at 891 Amsterdam Ave., where he stays until the morning of the shooting. He presents an ID that police believe to be fake. Two roommates in a shared room that had bunk beds never saw his face, police said, because he kept his mask on.

When speaking with an employee in the hostel lobby, he briefly pulled down his facemask and smiled — a moment captured on surveillance images that have been widely circulated by police.

Nov. 29

The man was checked out of the hostel, where guests are automatically checked out if they don’t show at the desk by a certain time. Police don’t believe he stayed someplace else and checked back into the same hostel the next day.

Dec. 4

About 5:30 a.m. — The suspected shooter leaves the hostel.

5:41 a.m. — He appears on video at 54th Street and Sixth Avenue walking back and forth in the area of the Hilton hotel where United Healthcare’s parent company, UnitedHealth Group, is holding its annual investor conference.

Police deduce that he rode a bicycle to the Hilton because it took him such a short time to get there. “Could he have stolen the bike? These are things we’re still looking into,” Kenny said.

At some point, he went to a nearby Starbucks and purchased a bottle of water and at least one energy bar before returning to the hotel.(Trying to get warm?)

6:44 a.m. — He shoots Thompson as the executive arrives alone, on foot, having walked from a hotel across the street. The man flees.

After the shooting, the shooter fled on foot into an alley, where a phone believed to be linked to the suspect was later recovered, police sources said.

6:48 a.m. — The man enters Central Park by bicycle at the 60th Street and Center Drive entrance. It's in the park and away from security cameras that police believe he discards a gray backpack.

6:56 a.m. — He leaves the park at West 77th Street and Central Park West, still on the bicycle.

6:58 a.m. — He passes another camera on 85th Street and Columbus Avenue, still on the bicycle.

7 a.m. — He's at 86th Street, no longer with the bicycle.

7:04 a.m. — He enters a taxi northbound at 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

7:30 a.m. — He's near the George Washington Bridge and the bus terminal there. It offers commuter service to New Jersey and Greyhound routes to Philadelphia, Boston and Washington.

* After the attack, investigators find the words “deny," “defend” and "depose,” written in permanent marker on ammunition at the scene. The words mimic a phrase used by insurance industry critics.

Dec. 6

Kenny and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reveal that investigators believe the gunman left New York City on a bus. Investigators say he entered the George Washington Bridge Bus Station but have not found a video of him leaving or getting on a bus.

“It could possibly be a disgruntled employee or a disgruntled client," Kenny says of a possible motive in a briefing.

Police find what they say is the man's backpack. Its contents are not disclosed.

Dec. 7

Police continue to search Central Park; scuba divers are seen scouring a pond. The NYPD releases additional photos showing the suspected shooter next to and in the back seat of a taxi. In both images, he is seen wearing a blue, medical-style face mask.

Despite recovering a fingerprint from the Starbucks purchase and sending items for DNA testing, police have yet to publicly identify the suspect.

Nothing is on accident with this case. He shows his face in the Hostel after concealing his identity the night before. His picture is captured with the taxi. Come on. Either he’s completely stupid but lucky or he did it on purpose… and that goes for everything, not just his pictures. The bag left behind…. The phone…. The bullets… no one leaves THAT much evidence behind. There is another angle here.

This might help. UNH is Optum's parent company. Optum and Change merged in October of 2022. That's the connection between the 3.

Optum has completed its $7.8 billion merger with Change Healthcare. Optum's parent company, UnitedHealth Group, completed the acquisition Oct. 3, which merges Optum with healthcare data and analytics giant Change Healthcare, according to an Oct. 3 press release. The acquisition allows Optum to gain access to data from millions of healthcare transactions covering a broad swath of the U.S. population.

Change's CEO is Neil de Crescenzo. SOURCE

Thanks, reading through the lawsuit cleared up the intercompany relationships. If the allegations are true, that’s some serious misconduct. Why would they sell ahead of an announcement like that, seems obvious this would be called out as insider trading.

Anyone knowledgeable care to speculate what the outcome of the lawsuit could potentially be?

I sure hope this assassin does not have a list of people to shoot.

He’s had no problem getting in/out of his first ‘assignment’.

Right?

The DNA is to have on hand once they take him into custody to make sure they have the right guy. Or, if like the Kohberger case, they think they know who he is and go through the suspect's trash to get DNA to test to be sure its the same guy.
Does it really take that long to Do familiAl dna these days? I guess it depends on how much evidence they have. But I feel like if he has anyone relayed to him genetically that pops up….they could narrow it down pretty quick. Maybe I’ve watched too much tv. But I feel like that’s how they’ll catch him if he’s not in Codis

Weird to think that outta the murdered CEO’s 4-day/3-night midtown stay the only two minutes he would be alone and exposed was that jaunt across the street from the Marriott to Hilton pre-sunrise @ 06:42?

I don't think his original plan was to fly out of the country (unless he is a foreigner). I believe he thought there was no way he would be identified and could just slip back into his normal life at home. I think that is part of "the game". He thinks he is playing it so well that nobody would ever know. That is until the pictures came out. He would find out about them somewhere on his way back home. Now his plan is shot. He has to convert to being on the run, which is much different than returning to his life. But he has to worry now that they already know his name because the pictures are out. He feels he can't risk trying to fly out of the country. He has to find a place in the US to hide out. He has to change his appearance. He has to get access to his money or some other money. It did not work out how he thought, but this is now a part of "the game".
If he's an American he'd have to have been living under a rock these last few years if he was unaware of the amount of security cameras in large urban areas. There are over 15000 surveillance cameras installed by the NYPD alone that use facial recognition technology. Then there's the ones installed by businesses, hospitals, residences, hotels: on buildings, lampposts, traffic lights, inside and outside stores, restaurants, fast food joints and apartments and many of them can store images for a fairly long time.

Edit to add link: New York is in danger of becoming a total surveillance city

Exactly. So why haven’t they caught him?

They did that in the Idaho murders, and it helped nail Kohberger something like 6 weeks later. That was the only time I've ever seen it used in a recent/active case. I think it's entirely possible that angle will be used here, but I can't imagine it will be necessary. In the Idaho one, they didn't have video of the suspect, and had no idea what he looked like.

I think someone will recognize him, and that may have already happened. An arrest wouldn't happen instantly though, as they'd likely want to collect and test his DNA first.

Who knows though, they may do that simultaneously.

Iirc they did it simultaneously w/ the Idaho case. I def think they’re working on all angles. It’s been almost a week and no one has come forward saying they know him. They’re 100% doing familial. I am SO glad that technology has advanced!! I just wish it could help with cases of missing people : (

There was a guy who owned a facial recognition software company on CNN the other night. He said that the image was likely good enough to do that. He cautioned that it would likely give a pool of potential matches though, and they'd have to follow up on all of them.

The issue too is that it's not like the government has photos of every single person, and many of the databases that must be searched are decentralized (each state has their own for drivers license photos for instance).

Those images of him without a mask is't going to pull up a perfect match or anything. They'd be in much better shape if they had one with his hood off.

Now that LE has stated (upthread) that they believe he e-biked from the hostel to the area of the Hilton (due to him getting there in only ten minutes), I would guess he had the e-bike stashed someplace near the hostel, but had brought the battery inside overnight to keep it safe / charge it up / keep it warm.

MOO
Would lithium batteries be allowed inside a hostel or hotel?

It's likely the law has the killer's name. They just don't release information. The United States Marshal Service (US Marshals) are going to snap this guy like a trap. They are unbelievably talented . Excellent. Skilled. Kind and SMART !!!
The best of the best. They walk among us.

Thanks to All true law enforcement. Snap and done, they put the bracelets on another killer.
