My post was to argue that this guy couldn't possibly be a "hitman", flown in from another country, to take out the victim. Such a hitman would have a proper gun, silencer or not. Just one of many reasons that it was not a hired hitman.
This shooter seems to have been hell bent on using a silencer, choosing that over efficiency. I'm not arguing that he had to have one, but if properly trained, I still thing less noise was better.
MOO
You can't fly into the US from another country with a gun in your checked bag without a lot of red tape - or inevitable apprehension and a world of trouble.

Why was he using and ID in McDonalds?!

Does anyone find his placement of the bag of clothing and the backpack a bit suss? Why wouldn't he have put them in a trash can instead of "gently" placing them on the ground? It's like he is playing cat and mouse.

An ID at McDonalds??? That's odd.
Hahaha I’m sure the details will evolve a bit. What I care about was what he had on him, which will be close to the truth.

The manifesto certainly fits, and the gun has him dead to rights.

More details:

A person of interest was nabbed Monday in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompsonbusted possibly trying to use a fake ID in a McDonald’s, law-enforcement sources said.

The man — who sources said is being eyed for the coldblooded, targeted execution in front of a Manhattan hotel last week — allegedly had a manifesto on him when he was taken into custody by cops in Altoona, Pa.

He also had a gun, silencer, four fake IDs and other items “consistent” with what authorities were looking for in the case, sources said.

Law enforcement were still trying to figure out the man’s real identity, sources said.

He was nabbed on a tip called into local cops, who then apprehended him, sources said.

I have never had to use an ID in McDonald’s. Odd…

Once he got across the GWB to the Jersey side, he could have gone to any number of places before he hopped a bus to PA.
true, but i was thinking more of the route going to NYC. Probably the closest stop would've been Baltimore

What did he need an ID in McDonald’s for? Hm. Very odd to still be carrying all of those items.

Only thing I can think of is he might have been applying to work there, only situation can think of where ID needed

Was it a gun or suppressor that was found on this POI? Or are there conflicting reports?

What kind of fake ID in McD? Fake credit card?

Why would anyone need id at all in McD?

So nabbed on a bus, or at Mc d?
sounds like we're getting a whole bunch of "alleged" info. we'll have to wait a bit for it to be sorted out.

I’ve been saying for a while, people were giving him way too much credit.

Some super villain genius, foreign hired assassin, who intentionally left DNA because he was so far ahead of police it didn’t matter.

Nope.

It was always really simple.

I can’t wait to learn the full details.
It boggles the mind where he's been the last 4-5 days.

Maybe a bus that stopped at a McDonald’s or something.

This will come into focus soon.

If this is him he's dumber than dumb to be still traveling on a bus and carrying those items. SMH
Criminals always think they are smarter than the police, but they rarely if ever are. MOO

What is it with this guy and McDonald’s?

I'm sure I read some years ago that in the entirety of NYC there was one gunshop!

Forever, there was one not gun shop here, but there was and is a firing range in Manhattan. I don’t know anything about guns but I know that range is for .22 caliber guns only.

Back in the 70s and 80s, my ex-husband did get a conceal carry permit. He owned a cash wholesale meat business in a rough neighborhood. It was a high crime era here and I don’t remember how, but he did get a permit. His gun and my cousin’s gun (Federal Agent) are the only guns I’ve ever seen. My ex used to go annually to Virginia to go hunting so he did know how to shoot.

Google tells me there is now another firing range in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn neighborhood) but very strict with licenses or permits or whatever.

Recently NYC has changed the law somewhat about concealed carry, but I don’t pay close attention to gun stuff.

Long Island, which is outside of NYC proper but borders Queens, has much more flexible rules about gun ownership.

Hmmm. Going to the link shows me rifles now, too. However, AFAIK there are no stores in which you can buy a gun within NYC limits.
