Sounds like he was off to hit another CEO after lying low for a few days.
It’s possible, but it’s also possible he was rattled and just took off. This looks more like a panicked move to me.

I am betting he has beard when we finally get a new photo.

I am a Minnesotan. Here's a local perspective/update from Minnesota, home of UHC:

Change Healthcare — a UnitedHealth Group Inc. subsidiary — was breached by hackers, causing prescriptions to go unfilled and big backups at pharmacies. It cost the company $872 million. (2024)
UnitedHealth Group Inc. Chairman Stephen Hemsley "sold over $102 million" of his shares. After news of the DOJ investigation went public that year, the stock price tanked, "erasing nearly $25 billion in shareholder value. Brian Thompson sold $15 million. (2022)
Protests in July 2024 re: insurance denials. 11 arrested.
Health Partners, major medical group, said it was leaving UHC because of denials. They came to an agreement. (2024)
Justice Deptment has sued UHC - anti-trust suit. (2024)
Source: UnitedHealthcare CEO's slaying adds tragic twist to parent company's tumultuous year

UHC, since Brian Thomson assassination, has received threats. The Minneapolis office is temporarily closed (phone threats).
UHC was a very open headquarters until the assassination. The company has since built a fence around its headquarters with security at gate.

OMG at the ASSUMPTIONS some posters are making!!!

Just a reminder, but what has been released is likely a very small amount of info that LE has. Just because UHC or the family has not offered a reward does not necessarily mean anything, LE could have told them NOT TO OFFER.

Just hoping they have this guy in the crosshairs and arrest is coming soon so all this can stop!

Surprised I have not read a theory that the wife and the shooter are lovers and he killed BT for her!

Someone posted a similar theory on the first thread. And I think it's been mentioned since then (since the couple was living in separate houses according to MSM).

Several people yesterday mentioned that the killer appeared to have either great luck in finding BT early in the morning, on the sidewalk, or had insider knowledge. On the list of people who had knowledge of his whereabouts, someone did suggest his wife.

Pretty much every theory under the sun has been raised so far, as this is a mystifying case. My own favorite theory is that this is a strike against UHG. However, the instant I type that, I realize that someone who had other motives would certainly want to make it look like it was a corporation-related assassination.

My favorite theory almost makes too much sense and I think this is a very unusual crime, what with the monopoly money and all - someone left not just breadcrumbs, but entire slices of bread to try and point to "this is because of corporate greed." But is that the real reason?

It's also fascinating that this killer plainly did not care about DNA being found (I can think of reasons for that, but it is strange). Fingerprints can be disguised fairly easily, and so far, LE has said they found only a blurry one (on the water bottle?) I'm going with the theory that he left no usable fingerprints (IOW, he doesn't want to be caught).

The words on the casings, along with the monopoly money, make it clear to me that this was not random.

IMO.

Police could have approached him while he was at McDonald's and casually asked him if he had his ID on and if they could see it
Local PD got a tip. So he wasn’t traced there, somebody dropped a dime. Love it.

Criminals always think they are smarter than the police, but they rarely if ever are. MOO
only one i can think of that basically was is Israel Keyes. He put in the hard work to actually be smarter

The sources say it is too soon to determine if his case is connected to the death of Brian Thompson, but they are investigating it as a potentially significant development.

According to the sources, customers at a local McDonald's thought he looked suspicious and called police. Arriving officers noticed a fake ID so took him in for questioning.

Hmm. Who hangs out at McDonalds long enough for police to come? Maybe, of course, but JMO, perp wouldn't hang anywhere for long knowing his face was all over the Internet.

It categorically wasn't a B&T. They don't operate like that. It was a regular semi-automatic 9mm pistol.

Have law enforcement said that it was one of those guns? If they have then they are wrong.

From the very brief reading on them I've done, B&T Station-Six 9 is not the correct designation anyway. It's B&T VP9 (for Veterinary Pistol). The Station six is the same gun but chambered in 45ACP. The figure six coming from it's magazine capacity.

Lets not forget that initial reports, even from LE or respected media outlets are very often wrong, especially about firearms - most of the media still refer to cartridges as "bullets"! The rifle found in the book depository when JFK was shot was identified as a Mannlicher-Carcano. No such rifle has ever existed!
Do you have a link or not?

LE has said they think it was a B&T Station SIX - 9. I believe the 9 indicates 9mm, but Idk. I do not however think that SIX has anything to do with number of rounds. Jmo

LE has not said that they think it was a VP9, the predecessor to the Station SIX - 9.

I personally don’t claim to know what the weapon was. I just think that those who are claiming that LE are wrong need to have a link or some factual basis to support their claim - other than steam/smoke seen on the video and some youtuber’s opinion - otherwise, your claim should be accompanied by a big fat “just my opinion”

My advice to those who think they know more than LE (especially those who are 100% sure based on what “we” know), is to contact NYPD and let them know that they are wrong - that the B&T “categorically doesn’t operate” like the one seen in the video.

I have no dog in the hunt. I don’t claim to know. Just suggesting everybody stick to TOS

All jmo

On the national news, he is in custody, has the weapon.
I’m shocked that he still has the weapon and everything else on him. Maybe he just didn’t care about being caught after the fact. Crazy!

I figured he'd kept the gun. Ultra stupid move, but it was an expensive weapon. If he'd changed his appearance and discarded the gun, he might have had a chance to lay low for a bit longer. Fortunately, he proved himself to be as foolish as most criminals. Good work, LE, and tipster.

I think most likely scenario is that he was in Mcdonalds and someone recognized him. They called police, and when asked for ID this guy presented a fake one.

Maybe the bus narrative comes into play because he was traveling by bus and it happened to stop there.

If a person in Altoona is the same guy who shot BT, it doesn't make sense to me that he was still carrying the gun 5 days after.

Unless,
1. the person they got is decoy and they tipped him to confuse the investigation.
2. The guy is not as clever as everyone thought or he didn't care if he got caught. Or both.
His benefactor/protector/family member kicked him out maybe. Washed his hands of him, identifying who he was and the risks, so he had to become transient?

If this is him he's dumber than dumb to be still traveling on a bus and carrying those items. SMH
I agree! I wonder if he tried to change his appearance. If he was smart, he would have plucked his eyebrows to reshape them and dyed his hair and eyebrows a lighter color after his photo was released. He should have dropped the mask and hooded appearance too. With all of the planning he did, you would have thought he would have a plan in place for changing his appearance afterwards including one fake ID with the altered appearance. We'll find out more soon!

This ID is a silly thing to get hung up on. He was caught with the gun, multiple fake ID’s and a manifesto.

Specifically how he was caught will come out soon.
I hope he also sent the manifesto to someone who will publish it.

It will be interesting to find out whether he had a B&T pistol, or a common semiautomatic with a suppressor.
They are saying how rare the gun is but not getting specific. Either way, he is/was not a genius in his choice.

Altoona seems reasonably small enough that police could have arrived pretty quickly. Quarter pounders with cheese are made fresh now, so may have been his fatal folly.

More:

Working off a tip, police stopped a person travelling by bus in Altoona, 276 miles west of New York City.

The person walked into a McDonald's where a witness recognized him from the images police had circulated, sources said. Altoona police were called and they came to get him.

The person was found with a fake New Jersey driver's license, like the one the NYPD has said the suspect used to check in at the Manhattan hostel.

Altoona police also recovered a computer and a gun similar to the one used in the assassination-style killing, sources said

The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoon

Interesting theory. Altoona is close to Pittsburgh, which is a city with a large healthcare insurance industry.
