This article the police referred to the gun they are looking for only as “veterinary gun used to put animals down without a lot of noise”
They didn’t confirm what type.
However,
In an CBS news article I read this:
“NYPD sources say the gunman used a B&T STATION SIX gun equipped with a silencer.”
"In all of my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a silencer before. So that was really something that was shocking to us all," Adams

NYC hostel at center of UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting investigation: "The most significant clue to date"
An NYC hostel is now the focal point of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's murder investigation, as police search for a person of interest.www.cbsnews.com
It appears as though it’s conflicting reports as to full confirmation of exactly what type of gun was used.
snippedHe was nabbed on a tip called into local cops, who then apprehended him, sources said.
If it was a greyhound bus, maybe Altoona, PA was a scheduled stop and McDonald's was close enough to get food while waiting?Maybe a bus that stopped at a McDonald’s or something.
This will come into focus soon.
From what we know, I think it will turn out to be some disaffected fantasist young person who has few friends, probably a dysfunctional family and has a history of being bullied or isolated by others. School shooter type, essentially. Probably got untreated mental health/personality issues going on too which is ironic given who he shot.
Great work by the member of public in Altoona!More:
Working off a tip, police stopped a person travelling by bus in Altoona, 276 miles west of New York City.
The person walked into a McDonald's where a witness recognized him from the images police had circulated, sources said. Altoona police were called and they came to get him.
The person was found with a fake New Jersey driver's license, like the one the NYPD has said the suspect used to check in at the Manhattan hostel.
Altoona police also recovered a computer and a gun similar to the one used in the assassination-style killing, sources said
The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoon

Luigi Mangione charged with murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO after arrest in Pennsylvania

Plus, M Donald's has a ton of cameras, inside and out. I think this is BS. Could be wrong of course.Hmm. Who hangs out at McDonalds long enough for police to come? Maybe, of course, but JMO, perp wouldn't hang anywhere for long knowing his face was all over the Internet.
From the article in NYT (gifted link on page 47, iirc), he was spotted at the McDonald’s and someone tipped police from there. It wasn’t the McDonald’s who asked the ID.police apprehending him and asking to see an ID makes the most sense. i doubt mcdonalds asked to see it.
Yes! Someone recognized him from the news coverage. Excellent. Love it.The person walked into a McDonald's where a witness recognized him from the images police had circulated, sources said. Altoona police were called and they came to get him.
That's what the live updates on NYT say. I hope it's OK for me to paste here; I have a subscription.I think most likely scenario is that he was in Mcdonalds and someone recognized him. They called police, and when asked for ID this guy presented a fake one.
Maybe the bus narrative comes into play because he was traveling by bus and it happened to stop there.
If he's riding the bus, it could be a scheduled rest stop and he couldn't leave.Plus, M Donald's has a ton of cameras, inside and out. I think this is BS. Could be wrong of course.
John Miller on CNN:
An employee looks at this person in Mcdonalds and she believes he resembles the photos that have been put out. She calls 911. Police engage man and that's when they found all that stuff on him. One of the ID's matches the NJ drivers license name. Documents that seem to be relevant to this case. Would stop short of calling it a "manifesto." Carrying documents that may relate to motive.
I heard the LE had a name, now I see no name.. Is this just journalistic inaccuracy?
If the tipster was a WSer, raise your hand! That's what the live updates on NYT say. I hope it's OK for me to paste here; I have a subscription.
An “elderly patron” of a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa., provided the tip that led the authorities to hold the man for questioning, a senior law enforcement official said.
And elderly person makes sense. They are actually engaged in the world around them and not on a cell phone scrolling. That's what the live updates on NYT say. I hope it's OK for me to paste here; I have a subscription.

Thinking the same. If it actually is a B&T, that's a $2,000+ gun. Unless its stolen or he has nothing to lose, he wasn't going to dump it.I figured he'd kept the gun. Ultra stupid move, but it was an expensive weapon. If he'd changed his appearance and discarded the gun, he might have had a chance to lay low for a bit longer. Fortunately, he proved himself to be a foolish as most criminals. Good work, LE, and tipster.
