CNN just said person being questioned is age 26.

This article the police referred to the gun they are looking for only as “veterinary gun used to put animals down without a lot of noise”

They didn’t confirm what type.

However,
In an CBS news article I read this:

“NYPD sources say the gunman used a B&T STATION SIX gun equipped with a silencer.”

"In all of my years of law enforcement, I have never seen a silencer before. So that was really something that was shocking to us all," Adams

It appears as though it’s conflicting reports as to full confirmation of exactly what type of gun was used.

Maybe a bus that stopped at a McDonald’s or something.

This will come into focus soon.
If it was a greyhound bus, maybe Altoona, PA was a scheduled stop and McDonald's was close enough to get food while waiting?

I wonder if someone on the bus recognized him or someone in the McDonald's and they asked for an ID for some reason? I till be interesting to see what happened there.

I hope it was an every day citizen hero. Someone paying attention, who saw something and acted.

Also, if he had a manifesto on him, then I don't think he was done. Was he heading back toward Minnesota? Did he have other targets in mind? Wouldn't he want the manifesto left where someone would find it? I'd think at or near the scene would have been ideal, but if he wasn't done, then I could see having it on him until he finished what he had in mind. Also still having the gun seems like he wasn't done because why not get rid of that asap?

From what we know, I think it will turn out to be some disaffected fantasist young person who has few friends, probably a dysfunctional family and has a history of being bullied or isolated by others. School shooter type, essentially. Probably got untreated mental health/personality issues going on too which is ironic given who he shot.

Of course we know so little, so anything is possible, but my guess is that if he were hurt by his peers or his family, they would have been his targets rather than some previously barely known businessman from out of town.

The reason school shooters in fact shoot schools, or incels mow down women who don’t engage with them.

More:

Working off a tip, police stopped a person travelling by bus in Altoona, 276 miles west of New York City.

The person walked into a McDonald's where a witness recognized him from the images police had circulated, sources said. Altoona police were called and they came to get him.

The person was found with a fake New Jersey driver's license, like the one the NYPD has said the suspect used to check in at the Manhattan hostel.

Altoona police also recovered a computer and a gun similar to the one used in the assassination-style killing, sources said

The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoon

Great work by the member of public in Altoona!

Sounds like they’ve got their guy.

Hmm. Who hangs out at McDonalds long enough for police to come? Maybe, of course, but JMO, perp wouldn't hang anywhere for long knowing his face was all over the Internet.
Plus, M Donald's has a ton of cameras, inside and out. I think this is BS. Could be wrong of course.

Yes! Someone recognized him from the news coverage. Excellent. Love it.

John Miller on CNN:

An employee looks at this person in Mcdonalds and she believes he resembles the photos that have been put out. She calls 911. Police engage man and that's when they found all that stuff on him. One of the ID's matches the NJ drivers license name. Documents that seem to be relevant to this case. Would stop short of calling it a "manifesto." Carrying documents that may relate to motive.

I think most likely scenario is that he was in Mcdonalds and someone recognized him. They called police, and when asked for ID this guy presented a fake one.

Maybe the bus narrative comes into play because he was traveling by bus and it happened to stop there.
That's what the live updates on NYT say. I hope it's OK for me to paste here; I have a subscription.
An “elderly patron” of a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa., provided the tip that led the authorities to hold the man for questioning, a senior law enforcement official said.

If he's riding the bus, it could be a scheduled rest stop and he couldn't leave.

The NYC perp was last seen entering GWB on Dec. 4, about 7:30 am.

Sort of hard to understand why 5 days later he is on a bus through central PA, only 270 miles from NYC.

If he had taken the one of the NJ buses that day, he could have been in Altuna by dinnertime. He could also have been on a plane to LA or Paris, or Toronto, although those would all likely require a debit or credit card for payment and a cash purchase of a ticket like that would be very unusual.

So where was he for 5 days, as the manhunt spread out?

I surely do hope this is the guy and the FBI gets their man, and answers to all the questions about the murder.

Patiently waiting to learn more on the documents recovered

I heard the LE had a name, now I see no name.. Is this just journalistic inaccuracy?

If it is true that they have brought someone in for questioning, from Pennsylvania, then they clearly "have a name." However, during questioning and before arrest, names of witnesses/suspects are not typically released by LE.

So LE has a name, but we the public do not have a name and journalists have not been given the name.

Yet.

Being on a bus at this point was not smart. JMO.

If the tipster was a WSer, raise your hand! :) (Or just let us wonder!)

And elderly person makes sense. They are actually engaged in the world around them and not on a cell phone scrolling.

I figured he'd kept the gun. Ultra stupid move, but it was an expensive weapon. If he'd changed his appearance and discarded the gun, he might have had a chance to lay low for a bit longer. Fortunately, he proved himself to be a foolish as most criminals. Good work, LE, and tipster.
Thinking the same. If it actually is a B&T, that's a $2,000+ gun. Unless its stolen or he has nothing to lose, he wasn't going to dump it.
