Well if that wasn't his motive before, it sure would benefit him to use it now after seeing how half the world seems to support what he did. I am curious if that manifesto was written before or after. If before, why not leave it with the victim or in the backpack with the monopoly money?
this is an excellent point that i've thought of as well. it seemed weird to me that it would just be monopoly money left in the backpack and not some other kind of more overt FU to health insurance companies. i guess maybe he really thought he could stretch this out and had plans to take out others and then release his motive/manifesto??? i don't even know. very curious to learn more

This guy wanted to be caught, but wanted to lead the police a merry dance so the story got as big as possible is my guess.

Otherwise he isn’t carrying a manifesto on his person - he’d have put it online or left it somewhere, let alone a gun he could have dumped.

True but if it were me, not even a fresh Quarter Pounder couldn't drag me off of that bus. Bada-ba-babah <yes, I had to sing that out loud while I typed it thanks to @Vaderman >

Why give LE the same fake ID? Surely if he had one, he had access to more than one? This whole thing just feels ridiculously OTT and I'm not convinced there isn't somebody else involved. I swear I am the most anti-conspiracy, Occam's poster around, but this seems off to me.

I wonder if you have to get off the bus at certain stops? I don't know how greyhound buses work, but let's say they require you to get off the bus, I'd think he wanted to go somewhere to keep warm maybe?

Gosh. If you were smart you would have ditched the "Marc Rosario" ID. Gave him far too much credit.

<edited - spelling>
I feel for any random Marc Rosarios out there in the world - they are about to get unwanted attention. :(

So I'm trying to figure out whether he was arrested in Altoona only because it was a comfort stop for bus travelers. If the McD's employee didn't call LE he may have gotten back on the bus to his final destination.

2. If he was really ideological, he was very dumb to not have emailed his manifesto while on the run..it would have been published if sent to 20 different news orgs and also to some true crime people etc

His message would have gotten read WAY more then it will ever now in a trial etc

It’s possible the suspect already emailed or mailed the manifesto to news outlets, but the editors thought it better to contact police before publishing it.

John Miller CNN:

A patron may have approached Mcdonalds employee and pointed out the suspected shooter. The employee then called 911. Mentions these initial details tend to change.
This is what I figured since they mentioned an elderly patron and an employee.

John Miller CNN Live:

Has the potential to be an extraordinarily strong case. DNA from phone, water bottle, Power bar.

The gun with the suppressor will be key. Ballistics testing will be important. Well honed science.

Relatively short 2 page document that talks about health care industry, inequity, suggests violence is one of the answers.

With all the talk of this guy taking Greyhound, it's odd that none of his fellow passengers or the driver recognized him, but some elderly McDonald's diner did.

Investigators also believe he was carrying a ghost gun — the Frankenstein weapon being put together with parts sold online — that matches the gun believed to have been used in the shooting, a senior law enforcement official told The New York Times
This is just more meaningless guff, as far as I can tell.

Buying gun parts online is very common, especially in the US. The only part which is recorded anywhere is the receiver which has the serial number on. You can change basically every part but the receiver will still have it's serial number. Buying replacement barrels is very common. It's not about hiding the history of the gun. The gun used by "Jennifer" in the Oslo hotel room was made of bits of other guns.

The point is that it makes no difference because the only part that's possibly traceable in any event is the receiver (the "frame") and it really doesn't make a lot of difference in a criminal investigation.

What I think they might be getting at is that it's a home made silencer or something.

I think he was just exhausted. If he is a lone wolf with no help, he was going to run out of cash and resources pretty soon. Probably lack of sleep as well. Came in with a bang (literally) and went out with a whimper.
Well-said. And he had made his point.

Word has it the Father turned in his 26 yr old son…
I can see that, but don't think that would have anything to do with the capture. The father might have gave LE the name, but he probably didnt know where his son was.

They also recovered a computer.

Local law enforcement is telling NYPD it looks like their suspect. They also are telling NYPD one of the fake IDs in his possession matches the one the suspect allegedly displayed at Upper West Side Hostel, the sources added.

Law enforcement are also asking Greyhound for its passenger manifest, to see what name the man being questioned gave them.

Numerous NYPD officials are en route to Altoona, which is in central Pennsylvania, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh.”

According to this report, it sounds like the guy had more than one fake ID, and only one of them matched the one used at the hostel.
So he wasn’t necessarily going around, stupidly, still using that ID. He had others he could use and probably did.
He was however stupidly still in possession of that ID when he should have tossed it.

If that is the case, then good for him, however difficult, it was the right thing to do. His son murdered a man in cold blood.
