Italiano!
yet again why people should stop guessing ethnicity based on appearance
Amen to that. American like so many of us suspected.

Valedictorian in high school.
What a waste.

I'm actually sad at the waste. I didn't expect this emotion. I'm such a cheerleader for students and young people starting out in life. He had everything going for him and he chose to be a killer.

Sigh.

I got it down to the Unabomber alignment. What a waste of promise.

I'd love to know more about this, could you elaborate? What sorts of posts? I've wondered about this the whole time.
Absolutely! And just joined yesterday!

Wow

I am just back from work, 65 pages of public thread to read!! you all have been busy! but just saw your thread, has this been confirmed this Luigi Mangione (Italo-American, I am guessing with that name) is the killer? I cannot believe he has been caught due to his obsession with McDonalds... I need a facepalm emoji for this.

Exclusive | Person of interest in fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson ID’d as Luigi Mangione, an ex-Ivy League student

The goodreads list is so peculiar. Multiple books about back pain. Was he a disgruntled UHC customer?

On the Goodreads website, Mangione’s account shows quotes he particularly likes ranging from Socrates to Bruce Lee — to wacky anti-establishment Ted Kaczynski, the infamous “Unabomber’’ who terrorized the country for nearly two decades by planting deadly bombs before he was nabbed in 1996.

man i was really hoping this would get a bit crazier, but it appears the guy was just crazy and vindictive

If the alleged is the perp, what a waste of a life for someone who could have contributed great things.
I feel so sorry for his parents, if this indeed him.
Seems like he was a bright shining star.

Maybe it will turn out to be mental health, after all.

I’ve no idea.

Plot twist: His brother Mario got severely injured in a plumbing accident and insurance denied his claim.
You know I started reading this and believed it for a second.

Seems like I was right about the motive
The motive was hinted at from the beginning with the inscribed bullet casings, plus the play money found in the backpack later.

At the risk of sounding stupid...Can someone explain what a HOSTEL is? I can't seem to wrap my brain around rooming with other people I don't know. But it sounds like something that is common.
You're basically paying for a bunk and a shower (hallway bathroom). People use them because 1)they're cheaper than a hotel and 2) in many cases they like the social aspect. Most hostels have common rooms, shared meals you can purchase, etc. In London most hostels have a bar/pub downstairs. If you're young and social it can be a great way to meet fellow travelers!
