I wonder what all the charges will be in New York State. I know that LM was charged with murder tonight, but don't known the exact charge and what some of the other charges might be. Also what the sentencing guidelines are for each of the NY state charges. I do think there might be federal charges as well, and that the feds will leave it up to the NY charges to go first and then later drop the federal charges if the NY charges are successfully prosecuted. I assume that lying in wait will add some additonal time to whatever sentence he is given, assuming that is the case in NY state.

I guess we will know soon, and the prosecution in NY may still be adding charges and only moved ahead at this time with the charges that they need to have him extradited to New York state. They said on the news that the extradition process can take up to 45 days, unless LM doesn't fight extradition. So that certainly gives LE more time to add additional charges as warranted as their investigation continues, and allows PA to continue to hold him in jail until the extradition process is complete.
I expect that NY will extradite him with the charges indicated in the previous post, add or omit charges at a later date, and that PA will drop the minor charges which would not add much to the very serious charges that he will face in NY. MOO

I think LM’s high intelligence helped him cling to some order and sanity all the while he was sinking, deteriorating mentally. The meticulous planning is part of his self-medicating and attempt to control the world around him. He was raging against his disease, keeping up appearances, isolating from loved ones. Until he couldn’t hold it back any longer and broke.

Most curious now on a practical level about where he slept and was in the past five days.

And also the scale of psychedelic use, if any. I have a sinking feeling that we've seen this before when some of the more extreme ones have been a trigger for FEP or other disorder, especially in 20-something males.

It's important to note that he could just have sleep deprivation right now and not actually be deteriorated. Cutting ties and dropping out of society doesn't necessarily have to involve a mental disorder, although leaning to the latter.

IMHO LM is apparently sharp guy, he graduated at the top of his Ivy League class. But still had the murder weapon and suppressor he made by himself on him several days after shooting! So, he made so many mistakes, didn't get rid of all those evidence that can expose him. Obviously, he is not smart enough to get away with this crime, that is like many criminals got caught. (Just musing.)

I don't know what FEP is, but I guess he was bus hopping.

In 1963, our family took a Greyhound bus trip from San Francisco to New Mexico to Florida to Wisconsin to Seattle. Four kids and one was in diapers. It wasn't very fun. (What were they thinking??? Our previous trip had been via train). Anyway, it can be done.....

FEP = First Episode Psychosis

It makes me suspect he could have recent onset schizophrenia.
That would be pretty late for the onset of schizophrenia in males, which typically occurs between the early teens/puberty and the early 20s. It generally happens later in women, between the mid-20s and early 30s.

That said, if he has been self-medicating with cannabis, that could have triggered an onset in an individual with a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia where that individual would not otherwise have gone on to develop it.

Mangione went from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh after the shooting, and likely “was in a variety of locations across the state,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said.

Not to beat a dead horse...

But mom is sufficiently panicked she's filing a missing report in San Fran on Nov 18. Luigi is showing up on a bus into NYC on Nov. 24.

To be clear - I'm entirely sure his family members did not think he would be alleged to go shoot a CEO on the street.

But i does appear that at least as of Nov 18, his immediate family was worried he was experiencing a personal crisis.
I wonder if that was part of the catalyst. He finds out his family is actively/officially looking for him and he decides to put his plan into action?

12/10/24

The experience was 'really traumatic and difficult' for him, the roommate said while adding that Mangione sent him X-ray images of his spine. 'It looked heinous, with just giant screws going into his spine,' Martin said.

Mangione suddenly went 'radio silent' while recovering. He sought alternative forms of pain management, including psychedelics and magic mushrooms.

His family was so concerned about him that he was reported missing on Nov 18, according to The New York Post.

ETA: The last case I recall involving magic mushrooms was the off-duty Alaska Airlines Pilot (Joseph Emerson) who tried to take down a flight by activating the fire suppression system to shut down the fuel to the engines, leaving the plane seconds from becoming a glider.

That's my theorey well & truly wrong! Convinced I saw a female face in the maskless shot!

I recall seeing earlier references saying the video of the shooting had disappeared. They are still showing it unedited on Spanish TV. This is the link to it on one of the national TV websites.

People threatening to boycott McDonalds, like it's McD's fault he showed up there or is it because an employee called it in?
Employee snitching .

Agree & perhaps stops taking medication, stops looking after himself in general, spiraling.
Given that potential - the missing person means they think he’s vulnerable, unwell.
Likely less has less to do with his back pain and more to do with what lead him to Kaczinsky views on mental health.

Still struggle with connection to the victim. Unless UH was his insurance, and they refused a treatment that he wanted vs the treatment he actually got. But given assumptions about access to $$ find it difficult to believe family wouldn’t self fund a treatment if it was indeed a better option. Wealthy family vs CEO of insurance - who is the more direct roadblock to treatment?? Definitely family.

Well, to be fair, he had to eat somewhere and he may have felt there'd be fewer news watchers at McDonalds than Starbucks which is generally full of plugged in folks.
True. When you’re traveling by bus, your choice of places to eat is probably limited. I’m not sure why some people are obsessed with that fact.

in a lot of ways he’s what i thought he would be (smart american guy in his 20s with an idealogical motive) but for some reason i’m now a lot more lost on what to make of him! his social media presence, his background, going missing, his actions in the past few days..
