Was his surgery mostly an ‘attention getter’ then??

He was unaware of post operative pain/limitations?
I have never met anyone who did not sincerely believe that their planned back surgery was going to relieve them of their awful back pain. Sometimes it does. But often it doesn’t. It does relieve nerve root pain reliably, but not back pain. For people with Spondylolisthesis, opening up the exits of the nerve roots and fusing the slipped vertebra on to the one below can be helpful if they have sciatica (leg pain).

Hawaii neighbor said he last saw suspect 3 or 4 months ago

By CNN's Steve Almasy
Chris Kwock told CNN affiliate KGMB that Luigi Mangione lived next to him in their building in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kwock said he last saw his neighbor about three to four months ago.

Kwock said he asked Mangione where he had been for the past six months and he said he was on the mainland for “medical stuff.” Mangione didn’t complain about his medical issue, Kwock said.

He said he didn’t recognize Mangione when he saw photos on the news.

“I wouldn’t even think about someone living next to me in Hawaii, across the state or
across the US (being the suspect),” he said.

At 25 your brain is still plastic, mushrooms, acid, ayahuasca, ketamine are dangerous substances. And, can be even more dangerous if they are laced with other drugs to enhance the experience. It is not surprising me to me that he might have tried any of these substances. Pro-football has some ayahuasca enthusiasts. Ketamine is heralded as a recovery from trauma drug. It is astounding.
It is not surprising to me that he may have tried these things, either. The question is how does or could this have affected him and influenced this outcome that he and his family and the victim’s family are now experiencing? Feel like it would have played an unfortunate role..

So you think someone of a young age should not have this type of surgery?
I'm in my late 50's and was told to wait as long as possible to have surgery. I couldn't take the pain, had surgery about 2 years after I was told to wait. The outcome wasn't perfect, not pain free but it cut the pain in half. I still need pain meds if I'm doing any physical type of work. I'd say to someone young, don't push it, wait as long as you can, do the therapy then exercises at home. Avoid anything that strains the lower back.

Because if of HIPAA who would be able to verify his medical records?

We have him, his family/friends and his reddit.
I understand that his family isn’t speaking about this right now. It’s just that the only thing I’m seeing on his surgery is what he told people, and what he posted on Reddit (along with his other ailments). If a friend had said he went to see him in the hospital or at home when he was recovering from spine surgery, I might be more apt to buy in. Did he have the surgery in Hawaii, or did he fly home for it? California? The missing timeline and his descent into whatever state he was in is hard to understand.

I only got as far as the missing persons report before the paywall went up. His family had not heard from him since July? When was the supposed surgery? Were they worried about him for months, did they knew what was going on in his life? Not working? The report was filed in California-what was he doing there? Where was he living? Did he maintain the same phone number? Was there a falling out with the family-unless there was, you can bet I would worry if my kid stopped responding for months. None of this feels like the story.
I have grown children and cannot imagine going from July until mid November before reporting them "missing". According to his Reddit posts - his surgery was in late July so I suppose that's when his family last heard from him. It was stated he left Hawaii for his surgery on the East Coast.

Agreed. Like so many others who may have mental health issues AND used illegal/legal drugs, it is unfortunate but he still is responsible for his actions. I feel like the trend in the country (possibly the world) is toward using substances to accentuate/deaden/entertain/whatever when these young people are so vulnerable.

Poor little rich boy. I'm not even sure I believe the words of his real/actual manifesto.
Why didn't he use his intelligence (and privilege) for improving health care?? Why waste his own life, take a life, and ruin lives of others?
I'll wait for proof of any actual mental illness.

eta: He blamed mommy and capitalism. (And, has supporters for all this?! sheesh!)

His demeanor was quite different between entering and leaving the court today. He looked angry and unhinged going inside...when exiting, he was rather quiet and expressionless. I wonder if his "CNN lawyer" gave him some advice?

What is a CNN lawyer?

If that’s the timeline-July surgery on the east coast, flies to San Francisco after and then cuts all communication-after a major surgery and you can’t reach your kid for 4 months? WTH

Quickly making the rounds……

It’s really the only thing that works for me.

There’s just nothing else that explains it, based on his history.
I keep thinking that something has made him remove himself from his family. Someone his age generally would seek the comfort and reassurance of family when going through what he has.

Well. It's sure not a denim dye pattern I'd buy if everyone here sees a pee stain. lol
Yeah I’d stay clear as well!

On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza killed his own mother and then he committed a mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

Is LM any different from AL?

No, not to me.

moo
Lanza had a history of behavioral problems, though, and had thorough psychiatric evaluations prior to the shooting. Lots of red flags, whereas LM seems to have recently become troubled.
