You don’t think it’s possible to both offer good healthcare coverage and give investors a solid ROI?
I do, but only if the shareholders have an equal interest in both.
Right now I think they are interested only in how much money the company can earn for them. JMO

I agree - it's become a common tactic and there's a lot of anger among 20-somethings that they will apparently not live the life their parents lived (and the parents are not "boomers"! This time, it's now the conservative Gen-Xers that are to blame (sic).

We all get older and when we do, we may retire or be forced to retire and be on fixed incomes and have real worries about healthcare. Boomers are hated and the 20-somethings want them all to go away so that housing and healthcare will become available to them. But it will work the same way as it did for the boomers - the older generation will still need expanding healthcare and only *some* will have insurance.

DM reports that LM's anger was due to UHC denying his mother's coverage, not his own:

If he had read up on how to be a Robin Hood type figure, he'd have known that he should lay low and ghost his family, so that they aren't implicated or subjected to a lot of questioning. His mom must have been so worried - to have filed a missing person's report (in SF, as if she didn't even know his last known address was in Honolulu - maybe she didn't).

IMO
Ugh. Oh 10ofRods...such a dilemma (I am so reminded of the quote AND cartoon drawing of "On the Horns of a Dilemma"...which is actually older than "Boomers". Millennials do have such disdain for Boomers.
But they don't see how such a large percentage of us were fighting these same injustices back in the late 60s and 70s. The 80s happened. Why oh why was there such a dramatic change to "fighting for the cause"?

We are ALL morally conflicted here. I am a bit tired of the phrase "Moral Compass"...it is becoming a sortof cliche.
BUT, maybe more people DO have to become more radical to fighting injustice.
There are so many cases on history, where one action escalated into an outroar. Is that awful? Or is that "About time".
As I say, we are "On the Horns of a Dilemma.

Yeah, even if beyond any expectations, a fan of LM ended up on the jury there's no way they could have a hung jury. He's been caught dead to rights - murder on film, numerous clues left behind, his demeanor while under arrest, etc. etc. Even his actions after arrest just reinforce he has acknowledged his role in this. You'd be lying if you thought he wasn't guilty.
Totally agree. Would have to be someone who is lying or believes one of the conspiracy theories floating around. But I still don’t think he’ll plead guilty but could be wrong.

Does anyone know if the type of surgery he allegedly had would leave a scar on his back?

Very much so. My son had spinal fusion high up on his back 7 years ago now--and his 8" scar on his spine is still very visible.

This would be especially distressing for someone of Luigi's age.
So very true. I do really empathize with this, and any individual that suffers with such sexual dysfunction. It really must be so very difficult for any 20 Something.
It could really bring on emotional distress and heartbreak.

DM's source cited for their "unverified information" has come out to state it was verified as inaccurate so let's please stop promoting the falsehood that LM's mother suffered from illnesses and was denied insurance coverage!

UPDATE: This original live broadcast (filmed live on 12/9/24) discussed possible writings of Luigi Mangione which were later verified as inaccurate. This episode has been edited to be up-to-date with the verified information.

Sorry that I bungled your user name a few min ago, but I've corrected that plus a tangled sentence. My apologies.
And I'm glad you've shared info in these threads. :)

Suddenly reminded of
Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon. His lawyer said he had paranoid schizophrenia. MDC spent time in Hawaii, travelled the world and eventually fixated on John Lennon, spent months planning his murder. Just walked up and shot him. IMO makes about same amount of sense as LM murder of a CEO guy to whom he had no logical connection.

Really, bean counter conference? … his obsession with BT, and clearly disjointed thoughts that he could not pull together into a coherent “manifesto” …. It was only 300 disorganized words … less than typical high school essay and badly written.

IMO he needed to kill BT to stop his obsessive thoughts about BT/healthcare/money & the system.
He needed to make his obsessive thoughts stop. And he made a murder plan to make it stop. There was no point to the murder, none at all.

100% agree. Spot on.

The only thing he has left to do now, Imo, is stretch it all out. Get people really riled up. Doesn't it take a couple of years to go to trial? The whole time people will be publicly documenting frightening stories of how they're getting screwed over. The only way he will prove to me that he did it for a cause is to stick it out with not guilty. If he caves immediately to a plea, well that means it was not sincere beliefs. Besides, the sentence will be so lengthy either way.

That stool looks really uncomfortable (and it has no back support!) but other than that, this is much better than what I thought an isolation cell would look like: clean walls and rather spacious. And macaroni cheese for dinner.
Many people working on a full-time basis live in abodes very similar to this one in many parts of the world. I would not complain if this was me who committed the crime.
I kinda doubt it looks that clean. MOO

Thanks to you and everyone else who replied regarding scars. I’m sorry yinz had to deal with this. I was asking in case I find any photos of LM’s back. Too bad IG and FB removed his accounts. I like to verify every claim a suspect makes. LM seems to want everyone to believe him without fact checking.

Even in the first paragraph of his manifesto he basically tells the FBI, you don’t need to investigate anyone else just trust what I say.

I am still very curious who he was talking to the morning of the murder. If he cut off family and friends, who would he be chatting with?

Interesting that LM's grandmother's wording in the trust included "any lineal descendant". Perhaps because she is reported to have left 30 million upwards to 100 million for her 10 children and perhaps because she had a really good lawyer who left nothing to chances, this was put into her trust.

I've never seen clauses in trusts excluding from the inheritance any lineal descendants charged with felonies (not convicted, just charged). Because I've only seen trusts with significantly less money, significantly less descendants and not written by high-powered top-notch lawyers, it strikes me as interesting that she or her lawyer thought to add this.

Perhaps this is the norm with significant estates but I was struck by what on earth made her either think to add this clause or agree with her lawyers that it was a good idea. Did she has a sense that some of her lineal descendants might be charged with felonies? There was far lesser crimes that are felonies and it's interesting this was included.

IMO
I wonder this too but we have a similar clause for drug use and other less desirable acts in our small trust for our son. Definitely not 10s of millions like this family but didn’t want to fuel unsavory activities with our money.

Your mind wasn’t deceiving you, Here is the quote:
“Kathleen stated she last spoke to Luigi on 7/1/24, and that Luigi worked for TrueCar at 124 Montgomery, which is permanently closed and the main number disconnected the report states.”

TrueCar went through a restructuring process which included lay offs
does anyone think this was an unusual job for him? I guess if he got a good offer coming out of school- programming is programming and data is data, but I do not see any interest in cars from him- he does not seem to have a car (?) or drive one and it just does seems like something he would be bored with in about a week. IMO

Apparently not just us here discussing if he’d plead guilty or not… people are taking bets about it (and other bets about his case) on Polymarket.

I haven't yet seen a bonafide link that says "sexual intercourse" in the context of what he could/couldn't do.
I have not seen anything about a truly close personal relationship with anyone.

Most wealthy people who care about the underprivileged choose more acceptable ways of helping the suffering and those less fortunate than themselves.

We for example tithe to the church to help with the underprivileged in our community as well as missionaries around the world. Our church does lots of other things, too. Murdering is not an acceptable way to show empathy.

I guess that I'm not convinced that LM is empathetic and murdered BT for insurance injustices. I believe that there is something mentally wrong with this young man.

Just my opinion, though.
Of course, many wealthy people feel obligated to provide charity to those less fortunate. It doesn't exactly change their lot in life, though, does it? And while I doubt this murder will change the lot in life for many individuals who are now just waiting to die because of denials of coverage at least it acknowledges an injustice which isn't the same as pity.

TrueCar. Only a Company Location Closed imo

@Megnutt @Tiff23fr
Agreeing, re @Meggnutt 's memory not deceiving her, & I see how the original quote provided from MSM likely caused confusion for others too.

Readers of that MSM* could be left w impression that the entire TrueCar Inc. was out of business when SFPD investigated LM as a MisPers.
IIUC TrueCar's LOCATION at 124 Montgomery in SanFranCA did close, altho afaik, info I posted earlier at #728 about TrueCar COMPANY still being in operation is accurate.**

Even w further info & context, imo it takes some parsing to see why the article led to confusion. I'll just leave it at that.

* "Kathleen stated she last spoke to Luigi on 7/1/24, and that Luigi worked for TrueCar at 124 Montgomery, which is permanently closed and the main number disconnected the report states.”

The ^ sfchronicle story referred to -
- "the report," imo likely the LE REPORT re of LM's Mother's REPORT re LM as a MisPers, and
- a TrueCar LOCATION (presumably where LM's Mother told SFPD as his work location. Maybe a TrueCar branch or sales office but IDK) at 124 Montgomery, which was closed.

I can see ppl reading that may conclude that the entire LE True Car's 124 Montgomery being "permanently closed and the main number disconnected."

** FWIW
- The company website Truecar.com is still up.
- TrueCar shares were traded on NASDAQ, closing at 4.19 USD, down 4.12%, or down 0.18 today.

Correct - on simply a location/some jobs were omitted

IF LM parted ways with TrueCar under the circumstances of a reorganization this could have been a difficult reality for him to process:

-Insurance seemed to be a significant need for him
-He may have to give up his HI remote beach working lifestyle and transition to a job in a physical building like many went back to post Covid

Did he Possibly intend to “fake” his disappearance to his family in order to further his new underground role playing fantasy as an Assassin / Robin Hood.
To use his words: “Whacking” CEO’s at their “Bean Counting Conferences” while globe hopping and setting up residence in HI.
I mean he was equipped with Fake ID’s, Passport, currency…

He'd be having to wear low riding jeans or swim trunks in order for more than a small amount (2") of it to be visible, given how low on his back it would be. My son's was in the thoracic region, so all of his shows when he is shirtless.
