From the link:

"Security at Paulette's home told police ... a female in a Jeep Renegade put something in her mailbox, about 15 minutes before officers arrived at the scene. Security saw the Jeep had an Illinois license plate and stated the content of the object in the mailbox "appeared to be an envelope the size of a cell phone." Police used a K-9 to check the mailbox but did not find anything inside."

This is getting stranger and stranger! Who would do something like this?

so the woman put something in the mailbox but the police didn't find anything...? uhhh.....

I have the opposite impression. Looks like a power move to me.

His know-how is in his brain and he shows that in his demeanor. All he needs is himself.

However, would be good to know if he normally carries a briefcase.

I think the same. A speaker wouldn't need his laptop for the day. I'd guess there was a breakfast beforehand, probably 7-8am and that's what he was headed to.

I would not think this would be the case his wife would take him out for insurance money. He was a CEO of a fortune 500 company. They were already filthy rich why take him out for an insurance policy

Just been catching up on this thread.

Firstly, RIP to Brian Thompson.

The fact that the killer was on his phone to somebody moments before the killing suggests to me that this was a 2 person job - somebody at that conference hotel must have been communicating Brians movements to the killer IMO.

I find the wife releasing quite a substantial statement so quickly after the killing very odd - if I was in her situation I’d be in a state of shock and not be in a position to release stuff.

At this stage I’m going with either a disgruntled employee whose hired somebody to do it or a more domestic family related incident.
I’m wondering if he was actually speaking with anyone or whether he was just fitting in— taking on the phone, getting a water at Starbucks, eating a candy bar…
Going to Starbucks seems inconsistent with anti capitalism, but he could justify it by just doing things to fit in?

Just considering, MOO

Ok, so someone please tell me why the CEO of a company heading to an investors conference, isn't waling into the Hilton with a briefcase. That is just weird. Which begs the question, did someone steal his laptop and phone? One could make the case that a man making 10 million a year, which is what his compensation was, that there could be scenarios where someone, perhaps a lover etc, was extorting him and/or scamming him. They would have to get rid of him and his devices if let's say, BT was about to to the FBI. Or, the perp found out the jig was about to be up. I can't get past the part where the CEO is walking in without ANYTHING
He's the CEO, everything is arranged for him, all he had to do was show up. Speech was probably loaded on a teleprompter by his staff. I highly doubt he carried a briefcase anywhere, it's all handled for him. All JMO.

Right. The CEO isn't pulling up a spreadsheet to refer to or setting up a presentation file - that's what assistants and minions are for. His job is to waltz in and be confident. At least from my experience.

The post you are quoting of mine is from yesterday. Lots of speculation and brainstorming and fact gathering has happened since then. If you pull up this post tomorrow, I might have another whole set of theories.

Yes I'm late to the game, sorry. Was there a bike used or did he just flee on foot? Glad they have very clear pics of his face. LE must know who he is by now or hopefully soon will. He looks so young.

Any speech etc is ON his phone. No need to carry anything these days. Read it from your phone.

United Healthcare has a corporate jet. That's probably how he flew to NYC.

My husband gets to go on his company's sometimes with his boss and the CEO just calls and books it, they pick a time, then they decide they want to grab coffee and take one more phone call and then the flight takes off an hour late, or his boss is itching to go and they push it up an hour. Even I can't keep track of when the plane is coming or going.

I'm just saying it would be really hard for a random hitman to track the CEO on his corporate jet to the private airport where he lands (which has heavy security - you can't ride your E-bike in) and then follow him to his hotel to figure out where he is staying :)

If he had no insider knowledge he would assume the CEO was staying at the Hilton, where the conference was taking place.

I just suspect there is a very personal love angle to this hit, considering the fact the hitman knew that he was staying in another hotel and what time to expect him to walk over.
I disagree. CEOs stay at the cushiest of hotels, and the Hilton is nice, but not cushy. The Lux is a 5 star hotel vs the Hilton which is 4. That said, there are other super nice hotels in the area. But the Lux is so close. If the shooter was in town for a few days, maybe he was scoping out the various hotels to try to spot BT. I wonder if BT was registered under his own name. If so, placing a call to various hotels to ask for guest BT would verify where he was staying.

He was speaking at the event and didn’t need his laptop. IR events are very presentation focused, an exec wouldn’t need to be working from a computer

My guess is he had phone and wallet in his pocket.
I guess a CEO doesn't have to carry his speech with him. I've never seen a business person with nothing at all. But I guess I haven't hung out with CEOs of public companies. The owners of my company always had a briefcase. And where is his overcoat? It was cold as hell yesterday morning

He had half a block to walk and he's from Minnesota.

Much easier not to deal with a coat when it really wasn't needed for such a short walk.

where is his overcoat? it was very cold and windy yesterday in NYC, especially that early. He doesn't look like a CEO arriving like that IMO.

I am guessing that anything he needed for any presentation he was giving would be in the hands of an assistant that would meet him there. He knows what he is going to talk about, so he doesn't need to be carrying anything. He probably had a laptop that he left in his room, his assistnat would have what he needed at the Hilton.

Deny Delay Defend. That is what Insurance companies do with claims. The shooter answered by Defying Defending and Deposing the head of the company snake. Clearly this is very targeted and persona to the shooter. Who did he lose because of the company denying a claim or recommended treatment? That is how they will catch him. MOO
Any party involved with supporting insurance companies could be said to be culpable of deny, delay, depose. This included execs and investors, lobbiest, etc.

So, he was shot and killed and then a bomb threat was phoned into his personal home (though nothing was found).
They went to his estranged wife's home and security informed them that a female had put something in the mail box at roughly the same time as the bomb threat? Am I understanding this correctly?
BT is already dead at this point. This is strange.
There's a lot of publicity and mystery in this case.
You always have attention seeking individuals who want to add twists in a case and gleefully watch what happens.
It's unconscionable behavior.

Someone trying really hard to make this whole situation look someone disgruntled by UH. This doesn't even make any sense. The wife says something was put in the mailbox and then nothing is there?
