Who’s JP? Thanks.
Author James Patterson, who is pushing out a book this summer on the Idaho murders, and whom AT wants to use as a ticket to ride the continuance train.

For AT to be granted a continuance on account of ongoing, intense media coverage, IMO she would have to show how it's unfairly prejudicial and I'm not seeing it. Much agreement upthread that she's arguing as if a seated jury has been exposed to it (or that all potential jurors have) and neither is true. The jury questionaire or voir dire can answer for that.

Her other arguments are even less compelling.

C’mon AT, get a grip. Info about the case has been disseminated and regurgitated on the daily all over social media/interwebs for the past 2.5 years. And will continue to be. The world we live in today, you know this! and I’d argue more people are exposed to the case via various social media platforms, YouTube, etc. versus watching Dateline.

So a few new tidbits about what BK had stored on his phone and a couple of other reveals r/t clearer audio and alleged butt print on chair in XK’s room etc. that case followers didn’t necessarily already know about, ok well weed out case followers and anyone that watches Dateline during Voir Dire. Of the thousands upon thousands of Idaho adult residents’, pretty sure you can find 20 people that haven’t followed the case, watched Dateline, can be impartial.

Geez Louise. AT continuing to try and move the goal posts is getting exhausting. I wish she’d stop trying to imo stall and delay the inevitable, draining state resources, taxpayers’, pocketbooks, and causing more pain and suffering for the poor families’ while doing so. Enough is enough, time to get the show on the road!

I’m with those that postulate the longer this drags on aka if continuance granted, opens up possibility of more leaks happening. Since Judge Hippler’s already upset about the DL leaks, fingers and everything else crossed Judge H rules asap and puts the kibosh on the D’s imo frivolous request/motion to continue.

I just can't believe JP already has a book coming out..I mean, I would want to wait on putting out a book until after the trial..you would have so much more information for the book! right????
Not necessarily. If he has inside information, he'd obviously want to publish it prior to trial. Two weeks before sounds right, as you get all the pretrial publicity, and then trial publicity.

Publishing it after would affect sales, as the cat would be out of the bag at that point.

The Goncalves Family Facebook page has apparently been deleted. My guess is that it has to do with the hearing yesterday. They were probably advised to take it down in order to mitigate some of the controversy.

I only know one individual in my everyday life who follows this case. Some people have heard of it on a very basic level, they may have seen a couple of photos of BK. Most know it as the kids who were murdered at college. That’s as far as they go. Voir dire should cover this.
I know NO ONE who has been following this case, and I have definitely been looking. After two years of lurking here, it’s great to finally join the conversation.

I stopped reading his books about the same time that he started farming them out.

The new book by Patterson is The Idaho Four: An American Tragedy, and will be published on July 14, 2025.

Patterson is joining up with another author for this book, too—Vicky Ward. She is a Cambridge-educated investigative journalist who is known for her cultured exposés of the powerful and rich. When she and Patterson found out they shared a personal interest in the Idaho case, they joined forces to write the book. Here is what they say their book reveals:

We know what it was like to live in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022, the day of the cold-blooded killings.

We know what the local police and FBI did right. And what they did wrong.

We’ve learned so much about the four heartbroken families—the Mogens, Goncalves, Kernodles, and Chapins.

And we have the backstory for Bryan Kohberger, brilliant grad student, loner, apparent incel.

Now you are the jury.

The evidence is in.

Given that Ward is likely the primary author, I imagine the book will describe the social milieu of the murders rather than provide a gripping, gory re-enactment of them.

Patterson is a co-author, though, so perhaps the book will combine the two approaches.

Rewatching this, 20 minutes, I think.

The first couple minutes, he plays a snippet from the recent hearing, the part where Hippler mentions "the knife" (and a display box). Split screen shows BK as Hippler says it.

BK looks like a goldfish sucking air.

Can't say what if anything it means but he sure seems hot under the collar.

VW’s name left a bad taste in my mouth when she was involved in the publication of highly sensitive photos of Mallory Beachs’ body. Jmo

I didn’t realize she reported on the Murdaugh case. So this isn’t her first foray into true crime. It’s interesting that there is no mention of that reporting on her Wikipedia page, perhaps for legal reasons.

I hope she is telling the truth about the pictures of Beach being made public by accident, and that she honors the memory of Maddie, Kaylee, Ethan & Xana.

Hmm. "carefully curated to promote a narrative of guilt". I would be more inclined to think "carefully curated to promote a narrative of creepiness." If people equate "creepy" with "guilt", they will likely get the full "creepy" just from the circling of the car around the house at trial. JMO, though.

I want so much for there to have been a camera that got an image of something identifiable on the car.
The problem is not curation. It's that there is so much evidence against BK.
It also occurs to me that you aren't wanting to investigate BK's heritage back 3 generations if you think he's innocent.

Exactly!

I personally am trying to think of a context that would make any of the leaked evidence less damning.

Excellent point!

If the defense is looking for some kind of nature/nurture causation, why go through generations of Bryan’s forebears, while simultaneously saying he didn’t commit the murders?

Seems like an awful lot of unnecessary work for a client they claim wasn’t in that house and didn’t murder anyone.

I hope the same, but I just don’t trust her. She is always referred to as a “ New York based investigative journalist “, but seems a bit tabloid-y to me. JMO

That’s the tricky thing about AT having to come up with mitigation arguments before the guilt phase of a trial has even started.

AT ran into the same problem with her ASD strategy for nixing the DP. Besides throwing autistic people under the bus, it also seemed to reveal what she really thinks about her client.

“Your honor, Bryan is innocent.”

Indeed.

Her political reporting is definitely gossipy IMO. Maybe give this one a pass.

Just noting here, going back any amount other than BK himself makes me laugh. I mean full on belly laugh. If he is convicted, unless anyone can prove he didn't know right from wrong it does not matter. I don't subscribe to the "my father beat me so I thought it was OK to beat people" or the "2 generations back my relative was a killer so I couldn't help myself" theory of life, though. You don't accidentally stab 4 people to death because of x, y or z nor would this be any kind of self defense.
