WOW! I've never seen anything like this. In my opinion, it makes it seem like everyone is in extreme danger if they are identified or something! I can totally understand the effort to conceal the identity of the jurors, but everyone else? This just feels so.....excessive for what we, the public, know about this crime. It really makes me wonder if this crime is part of some much larger crime, entity, whatever, that we don't know about yet. Remember Doug Carter's word.....tentacles. I feel very unsettled looking at that photo.
I wonder if there's also going to be heavy security at the place where the jury will be housed. I hope wherever they are staying doesn't get leaked.
Anyone clearly connected? DailyMail.com was then told "they were digging up the family's dead cat, whose hair proved a match for the samples found on one of the victims."
The MS has eloquently, IMO, argued something similar. In their opinion, JG's court seems to be neglecting the obligation a court has towards the public, through talking down at the media and not offering them enough information/tools to do their jobs, which is to keep the public informed. We see this in the repeated motions that have been raised by the media to release information and allow cameras/audio/any kind of visibility.
In my humble opinion JG takes the protection of the accused and jurors seriously, but doesn't have that same regard for the media. Which unfortunately can lead to the media reporting negatively about her decisions/fostering an antagonistic relationship, and most importantly, the spread of misinformation as the few people with press passes will be relying on their memory and hand written notes.
I would personally prefer there to be audio recording allowed. Again, that's not to malign JG in any way, only my personal opinion re: Allan County's relations with the media. (that's not even taking alternative media into account, just good ol' meat and potatoes traditional broadcasters)
Audio is actually being recorded, but only for the court's use. It's possible it will be released with a FOIA request after the trial, but I won't be surprised if Gull finds a way to prevent that.

It's not even possible for them to keep the jurors' location a secret. The town is too small. I'm sure they'll have good security at the hotel. At least I sure hope so.

Does her decision to allow an offer of proof at the trial mean she can change her mind just before the start of trial to allow that whole SODDI defense?
I doubt she'd backtrack. Why would she? There's no evidence that puts any of those D 's SODDI at the scene. That's definitive by her ruling for this trial. MO
Also, an interesting thing about the hair -- we know that during a mtg with RA, an officer told him, he knew RA was guilty and he was going to prove it.... it does NOT seem as though the officer mentioned the random / stray hair in AW's hand to RA as a means of proving it - he only mentioned the stray bullet they had at the scene. Why would he not mention the hair as solid evidence as well - if it was considered solid evidence that RA was there? No mention of it by the State in their PCA either... so it clearly didn't point to RA or anyone connected to him imo.....

Upthread someone mentioned that the absolute ban on electronics in the courtroom hamstrings the media, limits their capacity to report.
This is what concerns me -- that's a formula IMO for information errors. Granted, that's not the Judge's concern. Her concern is what happens in her courtroom, not outside it.
This is 2024. Technology is both good and bad, but good and bad it's here. I'm glad there will be an audio record. If not livestreamed, I wish the trial would be video recorded as well. And released in its entirety post-verdict. I realize the entire public, sea to sea, isn't entitled to every trial, every courtroom, but these are issues the writers of the Constitution could never have imagined -- cameras in eyeglasses, computers in pockets, keyboards in every hand.
Likely there will be a data dump after trials end but so much will be lost as journalist scribble as fast as they can and transmit it at breaks.
I remind myself that it's her courtroom, she gets to decide, but also this may reflect the families' wishes so for that, I respectfully sit back, grateful there will be a media presence, it won't occur behind locked doors (in the sense of an utterly closed hearing/trial) and those of us invested but states away will get daily updates. Orderly, organized judge, running a tight courtroom, may that be the winning formula for legal justice in this case, in order to bring to conviction the murderer of AW and LG.

Yes, I'm sure she is doing whatever she can to protect the jurors.
And, I think she's protecting the witnesses and others from media and the public shouting at them. She is trying to prevent an unnerving circus for people, and I cannot fault her for that.
If people WANT to talk to the media when it's appropriate according to their role, they are not barred from doing so.
I don't think the fence is keeping things "secret."
I recall Saturdays too, but the docket on MyCase doesn’t show Saturdays. Election Day (11/5) and Veteran’s Day (11/11) are listed as court dates, which are state holidays. So perhaps not accurate.
Curious what folks think about the timing of the trial. Since jury is being sequestered, why start on Friday and then have to break for two days? I would think they have the last couple days with family and such before being locked away and get started on Monday. I’d prefer that, personally. MOO.

Thank you for the clarification. I did not realize Saturday was in session. Thank you also to @TTF14 and @Inthedetails! That schedule is a good find @steeltowngirl. @katydid23 I wouldn’t be so put out if hubby could visit; it would be something to look forward to at least.
Jurors must avoid social settings where conversations about the trial could occur. If they encounter a situation where the case might be discussed, they are instructed to remove themselves or report the situation
I wonder if they will all have to dine together in private areas of restaurants. Else, how will they enter restaurants and not risk sitting near the public discussing the trial? Or are all their meals catered to the lodging?
With court underway now (finally) it's not that significant a point; sorry I'm not as savvy about the internet, at 80, as most here. Thanks to Snooptroop for posting clearly.
I do remember how many locals participated on that subject
at first, on their own site, uncensored. Today DMail was only easily, quickly found source; so it's not top notch.

I would have like to have seen a media room with audio feed. Still hoping some stenographer will come to the rescue. The can't stop people from bringing in pads and a felt tipped pen, can they?
MS said only 5 media passes issued and on the first voir dire day, with no breaks, 3 of them left and of course couldn't return.
