CANADA Canada - Jack, 4 & Lilly Sullivan, 6, Vulnerable, wandered from home 10am, Gairloch Rd, Landsdowne Station, Pictou County, NS, 2 May 2025 #4

Should add here..... for all LE reading this, please chime in and set us straight re rules and regs for RCMP investigations! And I hope you're all taking notes, we've got great thoughts and ideas as we sift thru "what if's"

“MacPhee (one of the organizers) became emotional as she read a prayer before inviting community members to lay candles meant to help "light the way home" for Lilly and Jack.

"Guide the hands and hearts of those working to bring these children home," MacPhee said as the children's stepfather, Daniel Martell, and paternal grandmother, Belynda Gray, looked on with sombre expressions.

Two paper lanterns — one for each child — were then lit and left to drift into a sunset-laden sky, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

"The community is hurting. They're feeling sadness," said MacPhee, who is a mother and grandmother. "By doing this, I think it helps a little."….”

@su5ie you are correct. There was a SM rumor early on that we were not allowed to discuss per TOS about rumors. Now Daniel Martell has publicly acknowledged and addressed that rumor in media. So while it could not be discussed before his statement in the media addressing it means that the topic of a rumor about a party is being discussed.

A good overview of Lilly and Jack’s vigil last night. Around 50 people attended including Daniel Martell and the paternal bio grandmother, Belynda Gray. No other family members were mentioned in the article.

“Two glowing paper lanterns were sent into a twilight sky over a rural Nova Scotia town on Monday evening, a symbol of hope for the safe return of Lilly and Jack Sullivan, two young siblings who vanished without a trace one month ago.”

Not LE , but I know a little bit. While some in some communities, policing services are provided by the RCMP, other locations might have their own municipal force. Missing Person investigation protocols may vary between provinces and police forces. Obviously there are industry wide best practices, but how those are interpreted and applied will vary.

How do we know she’s the bio grandmother, the mother of the biodad?

I think it can be assumed that Belynda Gray is paternal grandmother since maternal grandmother is Cyndy Murray as described previously in the press here:

The children's maternal grandmother, Cyndy Murray, has said police have advised the family against speaking to the media.

Yes the article states Belinda Gray is the paternal grandmother. But that could be referring to Daniel’s mother also. Typically the ‘step’ gets dropped beyond the step-parent.

I disagree with what you assert is typical but since I cannot link to anything to support that Ms. Gray is the bio paternal grandparent I will simply leave it at that.

An article of this nature ie. of a vigil would not put paternal grandparent for a step grandparent imo. Besides, I read on a link weeks ago that Belynda Gray was one of the family members wanting an Amber Alert for the children. The article indicated she was the paternal grandparent and it did mention her sons first name ie the bio father. I know if I cannot state the bio father’s name as it is against TOS.

But, regardless the paternal grandmother was there.

Hourly Data Report for May 02, 2025 - Climate - Environment and Climate Change Canada

This is a link to historical data from a near(ish) weather station. I remember it being very cold and rainy and terrible and thinking about children being outside in those conditions especially with the lack of clothing they were apparently wearing, and shedding tears and wondering if they could have survived the conditions. On paper this may not look as bad as is felt at the time.
Thank you!

Okay that’s all good, thank you.

I’ve never known extended family members to be referred to as a step-grandpa, step-uncle, step-cousin, etc, that just seems overly persnickety but then not everyone agrees DM should claim the title of step-father considering the couple weren’t married so I’ll just leave it at that.

Thanks, I'm very familiar with local policing, but when it comes to the Feds looking after local communities down east and out west, I'm a bit lost how they handle it with a local "flavour" or more federal like? When news said "major crimes" was entering into picture, I didn't know if they split that with lg local forces in area, or their own major crimes . In Ontario we have provincial forces also, and between them and local forces or even other local forces they share resources when needed. Does anyone know if RCMP extended a request to other major forces for assistance looking for L&J or any relevant suspects that might be in the area?

What other major forces are you thinking of? In Nova Scotia, the RCMP provides all the policing for federal, provincial and municipal areas. There are three districts, but all are still the RCMP.
