I thought the 8 kilometer reference was interesting. With regards to video evidence collected from private citizens cameras.
Tells me whoever is responsible is local.
jmo
This is most likely those multiple trail cameras that were reported on earlier.

"Families brought us to a location there not far away that there's a piece of a blanket which the mother says she believes belongs to her daughter, just off the road here," an official said over the radio. Martell confirmed it was a piece of Lilly's blanket."

So, is Lilly's blanket missing? Or is this an old blanket they would play with and make forts, or use for picnics?

"There is more evidence than what the public knows, but I can't elaborate on any of that," said Martell.

Daniel says this right after they talk about the blanket. What other evidence?

"RCMP confirmed in a statement that cadaver dogs have not been deployed as part of the investigation."

Why the heck not?
I don't believe the RCMP think the children are in the woods or ever were.

I find this interview pretty interesting.
@Poedelini : Thanks for linking this !
Ita .... it is interesting.
He sounds like he knows something, but will not divulge to law enforcement.
Wish they'd start to lean on both him and MBM a bit more ?

He's not their stepfather as he and MBM aren't married, and as far as I know he has not adopted Lilly and Jack.
Wish the media would get it right.
So much misinformation.

I'm still curious about the silence of their mother.

Nova Scotia is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information in the disappearance of two young children who were last seen more than a month and a half ago.

*****
Their disappearance has been added to the province’s Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which the province says is a “tool to help police in major unsolved crime cases.”

In Canada a common law relationship is very similar to a marriage in almost all aspects. Therefore just like a spouse of a woman with children would be considered a stepfather, so is the common law partner of a woman with children considered a stepfather without being legally married. The fact that DM is a stepfather to Lilly and Jack is not misinformation by the media.

Great news! For the province of Nova Scotia to have a program such as this but not allow it to apply to the disappearance of Lilly and Jack is peculiar.

$150K is a LOT of money. Hopefully, someone who has been silent with information will now speak up.

All of above true, but.. he is not legally a stepfather unless married to MBM, or has been before the courts to ascertain the legality for finances, support etc. MBM referrs to him as her partner (technically he was since they were together for 3 years). I wonder if she emphasized that on day #2, because she thinks he would have zero rights to the kids? Or did she think it somehow distanced herself from him?

Interesting that it is being called an unsolved crime case.

What do you mean “he is not legally a stepfather unless married to MBM” if you agree with what I wrote. Canada has legislation that legitimizes common law relationships. If you are suggesting common law relationships are not legal, that’s not true.

BBM

What is a Step Parent in Canada?

Step families are families with children with at least one biological or adopted kid of just one married spouse or common law partner whose birth or adoption occurred before the current relationship.

From the article:

“RCMP confirmed in a statement that cadaver dogs have not been deployed as part of the investigation.

‘Any searches involving the dog will be based on information gathered through the ongoing investigation,’ the statement said.”
That's a bit confusing to me. RCMP mentioned after a week they didn't think the kids were still alive, so it seems like a cadaver dog would be the next reasonable step.

To me it sounds like mom found the (piece of) blanket…. And it was later confirmed by the bf/stepdad to belong to Lilly… I don’t read that as him leading them to (piece of) blanket/him finding the (piece of) blanket.

Edited to add piece of // clarity that just a piece was found

I agree. JMO, perhaps LE/RCMP decided after tracking/scent dogs turned up nothing related to Lilly and/or Jack having gone into and/or being in the woods, and they had not been found and were presumed to no longer be alive, that the trail was cold and they/their bodies were not in the woods, so no need to deploy cadaver dogs. :(

I tried googling to find out if Nova Scotia has any cadaver dogs, and the only thing I could find was that they only had one cadaver dog named Doc in 2017. Maybe they do not have any cadaver trained dogs that they can use?

I don’t blame him at all for wanting to profess his innocence, assuming he is. If he wasn’t I don’t think he’d be so talkative. It’s a total waste of time and energy for the public to be obsessing over him as a fall guy, rather than seeking the truth.
JMO
My thoughts exactly too.

I wonder quite a bit what her (MBM/their mother's) reasons were for deciding to leave her common law partner DM and moving out with their toddler, and then presumably cutting off communication with him completely AFAIK since then, shortly after IIRC her older two children disappeared from their home.

If there isn't much more to her decision, which is kind of a big one IMO, than she was traumatized about Lilly and Jack's disappearance and things had soured between she and her partner leading up to that point (which we don't know anything about, I'm just guessing here) and the opportunity presented itself for her to sever ties with him, then it seems like her decision may not be a factor in her missing childrens' case, and more of a result.

If there is more to the story, such as she didn't feel comfortable living with him any more because of something in the dynamics of how he interacted with her two older children or her or their toddler, or otherwise in the interactions in their household with the 5 of them, then it seems like it could be a factor in her missing childrens' case.

JMM (just my musings)
