I've long believed that Malehya was quietly cooperating with police. While all the vitriolic fervor of online comments criticized her for leaving, not considering the potential that she was *fleeing from danger*.
When there's a serious matter going to end up in a trial, people are advised to keep quiet. Not just to protect the investigation, but also the trial. If a comment in a news quote has a slight difference from later testimony, the defence will use contraction to sow doubt.
This woman doesn't owe anyone her trauma. No matter how much we all want to know what happened.
I don't go by feelings, or assumptions, but by statistics and patterns. And everything I know about patterns and statistics regarding rural Nova Scotia, poverty, and misogyny... Made the stepfather a statistically likely suspect, barring evidence otherwise.
Edit to add: Daniel supposedly had subsequent girlfriend(s). So while the charges fit description of events reported by Malehya, I wouldn't assume her to be the victim in these charges. Until she chooses to disclose as such.
