A MIL that lives in the backyard in a 5th wheel, no real money, having to rely on your FIL for heat at times ( and that heat source is frickin' wood for a stove that takes up most of the living area ) , just nuts.

I don't think it's okay to bash a low-income lifestyle. A lot of people live in small homes, trailers, etc. and/or rely on a wood-burning stove to heat their homes. There's nothing wrong with that.

I did say in that post "And I'm not slagging the Martell's either. They are a perfect example of generational poverty." I am in no way bashing them for a "low-income lifestyle" as you said.

I didn't interpret OP as bashing it, but more as pointing out that that kind of life can be harder and harsher. Nothing wrong with a wood-burning stove, some of the places I grew up in didn't have central heating and it could be really cold getting out of bed in the morning and the fire had to be lit or be re-stoked before the house would warm up... It's just harder than turning up the thermostat, demands more work and more time and personal energy to live that kind of lifestyle, also harder if you're depressed and then IME being chronically cold makes depression worse... If Malehya was depressed, which is speculation not proof, I think.
