Granted, LE could be keeping info close to the vest and being quiet/strategic (a la Bryan Kohberger’s delayed capture) — but I am not very impressed with the police work we’ve seen so far. Millions of security cameras in Midtown, witnesses, discarded evidence, and they’re just now finding the backpack? No name? Just mind blowing.
As they should be. I've been surprised at the amount of information we have been given. All strategic, for sure. I hope!
Boom! BAM!!!!
Here we gooooooooo!
Thank you Massguy!

Flat-out wrong. New York City still has large numbers of mask-wearers and I see scores of them on a daily basis, on sidewalks, in public transit, stores, movie theatres, museums, etc. They're not a majority, but there are still enough mask-wearers out there to be easily noticeable and no one I know finds the practice "suspicious."
Well, @Stargazer90 is NOT flat out wrong.

Maybe NY still has mask wearers but for most of us, it is a bit unusual to see it these days.

Nobody wears Masks where I live or in the surrounding counties

Besides, I don't think it was so much a "mask" as it is more a balaclava

Maybe. But Websleuths seems to be the only place online that is really wanting to see this person caught - which is understandable as we are victim focused. There is a lot of backlash going on out there, as I am sure you have read.
Which is why I am hanging out here for the duration. Won't go near Reddit.

CBS News - Pic of Backback

Sorry if this has been posted. Trying to catch up. This is the first photo I’ve seen of the backpack.
Looks like it's pretty full too so maybe he didn't ditch anything that was in it and there is lots of evidence in there.. maybe something that is helping narrow down who he is.

Interesting that there is no news of any alleged accomplices, right?

Even knowing the name, and even if they have moved on him (which they may not have), it would still likely take hours for it to hit the news. It doesn’t sound like there’s anything imminent.
And even if they know the name, they may not necessarily know his exact whereabouts at this point. They may know which bus he boarded at the GW Bus Terminal and where he disembarked, but it’s possible he got on a different bus/train/cab that they will then have to pull surveillance from those other locations to piece together his movements. I suspect LE is getting close, though.

Dude was flying on that bike. Getting out of dodge. JMO.

You need to go back. The backpack has been disussed at length, including the CEO of the backpack company's coming forward.
I meant the photo of it recovered.

Same with the water bottle, wrappers and phone. I've wondered about this. It's not just one item as though it's a mistake, but several.
The phone specifically… Was the phone found at the scene of the shooting? Not a chance he would have had the phone in his hand at that time, so how could he have dropped it. Honestly, has anybody ever had a phone fall out of their pocket? I haven’t.

Well it's small compared to the Port Authority. I know NYC well. Have never heard of 178th St. (GWB) bus terminal before today.
It's been there forever. When I was a child in the 1960s, my family would take the bus from there to the then-popular Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey (now long closed).

I'm sure it has. Don't doubt that.

I think someone that didn't know the city could google for bus stations and that GWB one stands out due to its location away from the scene, ability to go thru Central Park and being next to a bridge that goes out of the city.

I think the basics on this thing were well planned. I don't think he planned well for the cameras around the city. He didn't think they would be able to trace him back so quickly to the hostel, where they got the pic of his face and learned when he came into town so they could get the Atlanta bus info so quick. He would have done things differently had he known.

I also think it points to a Jersey connection. Just a hunch.

jmo

I have the same hunch, given the fake NJ ID.

Unless this guy is some sort of criminal mastermind, it wouldn't even cross his mind to fake an ID from a state other than the one he lives in.

Maybe he came into town with nothing connecting him to his real life and just started discarded things - all traces during his 10 days, like a burner phone, the back pack etc.

IF he did take a plane (as per the unconfirmed tip) that would be his undoing. I bet every airport on the east coast and south east was alerted by the FBI about this guy, resulting in every male passenger between 20 and 40 being scrutinized.

For sure someone recognized him in the unmasked photo.

It’s a clear photo as far as being able to recognize him. Friends, relatives, girlfriend, coworkers, landlord, doctor, dentist, gym buddy, etc. Someone has to recognize him. Maybe someone has and LE is vetting them.

Seeing they have over 200 pictures of him, I think you’re right, they are able to piece together each of his movements.

Yes, this is what I'm thinking.
