It's very eye opening and anger inducing
I need to read it. My job had nothing to do with claims approval or denial, but I rarely had a patient complain about their coverage or claims. It’s a huge company though, so things may have been different in other divisions within the company.

I mean this in the most stereotypical way. As an American, I also can’t think of anything more American.

Hmm...maybe if there were cowboys? ;)

Sorry, I'll stop tongue-in-cheek posting. Just needed a little levity from those heavy denied claim stories. If I was an American I could've bankrupted my parents and myself multiple times over due to my medical history. It's a very sobering thought.

You can feel so helpless when you're ill, and you have to constantly advocate for yourself at a time when you are at your worst. I can't imagine the added stress of insurance and bills.

I have not watched the shooting video. Can anyone who has share whether the shooter shot his target face-to face or in the back?

In it, you see Thompson walking down the sidewalk, wearing a bright blue suit jacket, and dark pants. The gunman comes into view behind him, appearing to first strike the victim's left leg (he limps to the right, in the direction of the building).

He turns around and faces his attacker, before collapsing.

Yeah, I think he left it there and someone eventually grabbed it.

From NY TImes timeline:

6:56 a.m. Mr. Kenny said the suspected shooter then exited the park at 77th Street, still on his bicycle.

6:58 a.m. The police also have surveillance footage showing the suspect near 86th Street and Columbus Avenue.

About 7:00 a.m. The suspect was still on 86th Street, but no longer on the bicycle.

Get…out.

It be honest, I was slightly amused by seeing hiw delicately it was placed. We know the NYPD were extra cautious to not touch it, so the photos were how it was it found. Perfectly on its back with the uniquely identifiable silhouette, placed nicely out in the open next to tree. It looked neat and clean.

If I were dumping a bag it would be in the lake. Ok maybe you don’t want to alarm bystanders. So then I’m dumping it deep into a hedge or bushes. He did neither. Or covered with leaves, dirt. Maybe that was why it took them so long to even find it, it was in too obvious of a place.

Thank you. Very cold. It doesn’t seem personal, imo.

Yes. Way back in the Ellis Island days, the cruise ships required verification that you could legally enter the port of destination. No passports, but "relatives" in the US were listed on ship manifests. Ships were financially reponsible for "return" trips.

You generally can't board an overseas flight without a passport. Who is gonna pay for the return flight of a reject? The flyer can also claim that her or she is stateless and cannot be returned. It creates an international mess. Passport before boarding makes total sense.
Also, you generally cannot stay in any country as a non-citizen without a visa. (Does anyone know of an exception?) At first I thought he probably left the country; now I am thinking, he most likely just left the state. I am very curious to know what his plan was to escape the long arm of the law. MOO

Anyone heard about ‘monopoly money’ in the backpack? I just got an alert from this article from FOX that mentioned it. I checked it against NBC and they did in fact report it.

Fox - “NBC News also reported Saturday that Monopoly money was found in the backpack.”

NBC - “Some Monopoly money was also found in the backpack, two sources told NBC News.

Is he trolling??

Lol. He clearly expected that backpack to be found.

MSNBC is reporting that the backpack that the Midtown shooter ditched in Central Park was full of Monopoly money.

I thought this was a joke at first. Nope, it's real. Wow.

<snipped & BBM>
A backpack resembling the one worn by the suspect has been recovered near a playground in Central Park, according to media reports. MSNBC said on Saturday that police examining the bag and its contents found a jacket and Monopoly money, but no firearm.
