How sure are they that this is the bag?. Most sources are just saying its possibly the bag
It's the same brand that was identified days ago, and it was found in the area they were searching based on his movements. It looked like it hadn't been there long, and it's an expensive bag. I think they're close to positive it's his.

Is this proven to be accurate, Monopoly money in the backpack?

I did see the link but otherwise I’m not seeing it in mainstream news yet.

If this is true—-wow. That is a real “screw you” message to LE.

Very dystopian. Makes me think of the “Joker” movie.

My first thought was that short story by Anna Starobinets about a man who worked (not hired by anyone, his own initiative and using his own funds, equipment, etc) getting rid of people he considered to be parasites in society but I can't remember the title of the short story as I read her two short story collections a long time ago.

The Monopoly money thingy makes me think, in his mind, he is absolutely convinced he is not going to get caught.
This ''in your face'' trick can only motivate LE even more and this shooter does not seem to be the slightest worried about it.

He may have been alone in NYC but I think he was acting on behalf of an organisation. He learned what he needed to know, did the job with flair, made sure it was memorable and spectacular and cared deeply about not being caught before his escape. He didn’t care in the slightest what was found a day or two later.

I posted about this earlier (at length, here) but wasn’t expecting Monopoly money! Unbelievable – the nerve of it. Wow. Just another part of the show, clearly.

The New York Police Department says they did not find a gun inside the backpack they recovered in Central Park that potentially belonged to the person of interest in the UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting. A jacket and Monopoly money were among some of the things found in the backpack.

Okay . . . what else was in the backpack?

Enquiring minds want to know!!

JMVHO.

The longer time goes on the more I’m thinking he preplanned every second of this. Right down to the backpack in Central Park and whatever (if anything) he left inside of it. Every move seems to be another step to throw off investigators. And it’s working.

Trying to find as much information about this water bottle I can. This thought is way out there, but.... is it certain the water bottle found came from the shooter? What if there were two water bottles of the same brand, one the shooter is seen with, and another the shooter found and left to be found with an unknown person's DNA on it? To throw the investigation in a circle?

Like many here, this case is interesting. How much thought and planning was put into the crime?

He appeared so calm, BOLD, deliberate, and focused. Yet he simply appeared to vanish.

Was it personal? Did he have months to think about this as he was losing a loved one? Did his unhealthy thoughts of revenge stew over time? Is he finished?

Does he plan on getting caught but wanting to do more damage until he is caught.

Frightening.

Yes, Reuters reported it.

No word on the type of jacket (although IIRC it was reported elsewhere the jacket was Tommy Hilfiger), but my first thought was what if it is a fleece jacket that was in the bag? — i.e., UHC is fleecing the American public.

Putting Monopoly money in the bag was definitely a deliberate choice — I wouldn’t be surprised if the jacket was a deliberate choice as well.
Tommy Hilfiger USA, Inc. This is intentional imo.

ABC’s sources saying they do not have a name of a suspect, but also confirming the reporting of NBC regarding the Monopoly money and brand of jacket.

The backpack recovered by the NYPD that allegedly belonged to the suspect wanted in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, only had two items inside: a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and Monopoly money, sources with knowledge of the ongoing investigation told ABC News Saturday.

The NYPD believes it is making good progress toward identifying the suspect but, as of Saturday evening, no identification has been made, sources told ABC News.

We don’t know if BT received a call/text or even a call from the front desk to stop by for a message that morning (could have been a written message delivered the night before/very early morning) maybe the message was to let him know someone was waiting for him? Or maybe a threat? I don’t know why it bothers me that BT looked back after he was shot in the leg, except to physically see who the shooter was, instead of looking at his leg. I’m probably overthinking this.
Think reaction… like some tap shoulder you look back. Yes I know shot be way more painful but automatic reaction

This confirms what I've been think all along.

This is an anticorporatist, anti-capitalist, idealistic radical guy.
One of their rallying cries is "break up the monopolies!!"

Sure he may have known someone with bad experiences with UHC, but he probably read about "millions of bad experiences" with "evil, greedy, monopolistic UHC". UHC has had quite the reputation recently. A decade ago, it was financial institutions.

It's NYC, the financial capital of the US.
It's Christmas where consumers are spending and Rockefeller (can you say monopoly??) Center is nearby.
It's Medicare enrollment time when news of "evil Medicare advantage plans" pop up on message boards and SM.
It's also the time, when TV's had the Medicare Advantage ads ad nauseum.

Monopoly money says it all.........

Sorry to be snarky.....I'm quoting some of the things I read online. This guy just wants "the glory" as some type of "robin hood" or similar folk hero among his "peers". He seems to be on the path to terrorism.

Some reports say “a jacket and Monopoly money were among the items in the bag” and some say “only a jacket and Monopoly money”.

Yes. The manufacturer of the backpack says this model of this pack was sold between 2016-2019. Not super likely the shooter hunted down multiple five year old, $400 backpacks…
but
, hey, we now have Monopoly money so… what do I know?
