However, dying while “on company business” is the biggest payout to beneficiaries.
I don't think a guy making 10 million plus stock options a year is worried enough about his bequeathment being and extra several million. This is not the way to stage your suicide. I think the staged suicide thing is totally unrealistic

This picture … looking at the background. I Being very familiar with 85/86 & Columbus and UWS in general … that stoop & door look wrong for that location. The steps & door especially don’t look right.

Having a street view look around 178/179 where u might get dropped by taxi doesn’t look similar to that either. I’ve been to that bus station a few times by taxi, and subway.

Did he get dropped near a subway station to connect with bus or some distance from the bus?

But maybe … anyone from that area ??
Could be just a couple blocks south on Broadway, around 176th street -- close to the bus station. Maybe he wasn't dropped off right at the station. JMO.

Is the coward killer trying to convey to the public that UnitedHealth Group a monopoly, deny, defend, and depose? Taunting LE, which, is similar to what serial killers like to do…
Or is there something more sinister behind his actions?

All moo
United Healthcare has quite a history of takeovers - too many to mention. It's not a monopoly, but IMO it is close. It's the largest private insurance company in the US. If you want a contrast, the Affordable Care Act is less expensive and is not known for denying coverage, as is UHC, which is a for-profit company. A 2022 denial rate was 22.7%. Recent denials 2023 have hovered at 33%. Don't think his actions are more sinister. It seems he is aware of UHC controversies.

He was put in a situation where his normal instincts got the better of him I think. I think if most guys his age were put in that situation, they'd be obliged to comply with that request. He could lower his mask and do what was socially acceptable, or he could refuse to do so and draw a bit of attention to himself.

Perhaps he's a great planner, but not very quick on his feet. He could have said he was sick or something, which would have been a legitimate excuse.

I also think he didn't believe his hostel stay would ever be discovered, so it wouldn't necessarily have overly concerned him.

i agree... I do think the one surprise for him----> was not the existence of the smiling photo, but the expediency and clarity of it being published. I think he knew he had to improvise with a huge smile, but that could only do soooo much.

And I'm pretty sure it was stated that honing in on the hostel, WAS from a tip.
Thank goodness for that single tip.

Can you explain the hostel tip? I missed that.

I have tried to keep up on this thread so please point to something if I missed it, but I am very curious to know what he did and where he was for the 10 days leading up to this once he arrived. How do they know he arrived 10 days earlier?
I still think there is a chance he is actually a NY resident and did the whole traveling thing to make it look different.

Not just your opinion. The DoJ's opinion too.

I think I have expressed my greatest fear / concern.... would be that it is just some international terrorist "messing with America". I'm not "there yet"... but is my biggest fear.
Plenty of pundits have been focussing how enemies can / could/ will mess with our financial infrastructures to cause harm...banks, insurance, medical, telecom....

As I say..."not there yet"... but I DO NOT think he is American....
And I am totally baffled as to why we are hearing NOTHING about an accent or not.....
I think we are not hearing about an accent because people are notoriously bad at talking about ethnicity without roiling the masses. If the folks discussing it accidentally misidentify it, it feels like a sleight.

Authorities have been exceedingly careful not to discuss race/ethnicity/possible country of origin m, IMO so as not to set off a political/social bomb of sorts.

In the beginning they referred to the shooter as “light skinned” or “white” and folks on some SM threads went wild talking about that and this guy’s background— I think they’ve determined that it’s just ultimately less helpful to announce such a thing.

They’ll have a snippet of voice recording somewhere— probably from in the cab.

Yes. Absolutely, positively. This one, in particular, did it from point blank range, which takes guts.

Just for fun, try Googling "female assassins." I did and all I could find was a list of fictional one from movies!
I would suggest your Google-fu is subpar. A query of female assassins leads to many real-life figures.

Maybe the ID showed a smiling face. I doubt she characterized herself to the press or cops as being flirty.
I'm in agreement about the flirty thing after reading what an article says about it. If that was my job, I'd say "Let me see your pretty smile" to ANYONE that was checking in and was wearing a mask. That goes for men, women, the young and the old, regardless of what they look like. It's a nice way of getting what you need as opposed to being all brusk and saying "Mask down so I can see your face" in a matter of fact and uncaring way. Obvs... JMO

I am very curious as to the exact amount the Monopoly money in the backpack is and what it added up to.

Moo… if this was motivated by anger and vengeance against UHC.

I feel as though counting it out… could possibly give insight into who the killer is. Help determine if he is acting on his own or with a group sending a larger message/retaliation together.

If his claim or an immediate family members claim for healthcare services was denied and the amount of Monopoly money in the backpack is the amount they needed to pay in order to receive treatment that UHC refused to cover. That would make the Monopoly money left behind not only symbolism but personal motive.

Leading me to believe this is personal to him and him alone.

And Not a group effort to make a large statement against the insurance/ healthcare company and institution as a whole.

So is it a round number… just a few Monopoly money bills for symbolism in the backpack or does it add up to a very specific number?

That's what they're trying to piece together. They've been able to place him on the bus from Atlanta at the Washington DC stop, so he got on there or at some point prior to that.

<modsnip - no link/rumor>

So from the bus, the video from the Hilton, and the check-in at the hostel, they know exactly when he arrived. There are indications that they believe he followed the same route back.

Whomever mentioned perp was a full fledged Maxxinista - I am with ya.

I see they have the backpack in stock on the floors of some Best Buy stores as I type. Two at the Rego Park store this moment. (I have no clue where that is, just using it as a NY example.)

If he flew in from somewhere, he could have accumulated everything in the time he had between arriving in NY and the murder.

'Authorities have identified the suspect in the fatal shooting of Unitedhealth Group CEO Brian Thompson. The statement was released by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams said that the authorities are closing in on the shooter.'
This has been walked back.

I don’t think the Monopoly money had any deeper meaning than all UHC cares about is money.

Masking an accent would also be a pre requisite for such a job- anything to blend in.

People don't usually talk about an accent unless they hear one. Maybe no one noticed an accent. JMO.

I do not think he is a flirt. I think he knew he had to improvise in the situation, and a huge broad smile probably distorted his "normal look" more than any other look.
I agree. He knew he was using a fake id and didn’t want to set off any alarms. Sometimes the police will get called over that. The clerk probably asked in a sweet way “can I see that beautiful smile?” To not come off as overly aggressive when wanting to verify his ID. He complied because he didn’t want her to be suspicious of him. I don’t think there was much more to it than that.
