I agree. This case is taken so seriously for the reasons you listed ^^ plus the president-elect's residence is about 3 blocks away. I AM NOT suggesting this has anything to do with that, but I am saying this neighborhood's safety is top priority.

It cannot simply stand that an assassin can kill someone on 54th Street so easily.

For many reasons, this was not "just another murder."

jmopinion
The resources are going into it because of his status. There’s no other reason. Wealthy people are “assassinated” and the disenfranchised “die” or are murdered. MOO

This guy seemed to be pretty meticulous in his planning and scoping things out way ahead of this murder, then getaway. Could that ethos water bottle and burner phone found also have been another one of his decoys? He could have had them ahead of time obtained from others fingerprints, put in a bag where he didn’t have to touch them but just dump them grabbing them from his compartmentalized photographers backpack?

Someone in the international community might be interested in influencing Americans' confidence in things like our justice system (people are okay with an assassin taking the place of a jury!!), our health-provider industry, our financial system, etc.

To me, this does seem like a crime against us as a culture. But that's just one theory I have still on the table.

Lots of Americans feel this way! They can't stand our healthcare.

International might go after something more visible.

I think he's American of ME descent and maybe was involved with the protests that began in Oct 2023. Many of those protesters were anti-capitalists. Many of the protests seem to have been a revival of other grievances.

The protests here locally were organized by a far left political group (not one that is a household name) and when I looked at the protests in NYC, guess what?? The group was front and center. They had their logo on most of protesters signs.

I was always stunned that nothing serious came out of the protests.
All MOO MOO MOO

I'm still of thinking "never taking off the mask" in the hostel was him not wanting to catch Covid. Otherwise, if it had been to be undetected/hidden/whatever... you'd think he'd also wear gloves so as not to have his fingerprints and DNA everywhere, yet he didn't. JMO
Eh. Facial recognition is far more of a threat to this dude than fingerprints and DNA. If he’s never been arrested and hasn’t submitted DNA to anything, those pieces of evidence are going to be hard to connect back to him without a lot of legwork. Facial recognition, though, can possibly pull up a random clip on YouTube you didn’t even realize you were in years ago (for instance) that would possibly reveal a lot about you in a very short amount of time. Or family photos that were shared on social media that you don’t have any control over. Can’t do the same with fingerprints, and genetic genealogy is the closest you’ll get to that with DNA. And that takes time.

Maybe he used acid to temporarily remove his prints?

For those thinking about the e-bike, I heard that police said he ditched the e-bike on/near 85th street, just before catching the cab a block north on 86th street. If police know about this change in his mode of transportation, then I'm not sure why police don't yet have that e-bike now.
Because somebody probably stole the bike before the LE figured out where it was.

my guess.

Where does a person get a large lot of Monopoly money? E Bay? We don’t know how much was in the backpack…maybe it was just one game’s worth, but if was a lot more than that, he had to have gotten it from somewhere.

It’s in the Belgian newspaper, even every new bit of information gets posted, for instance the new cabpictures. Then it’s weard it isn’t newsworthy in Atlanta, where people may live who recognize the guy. No?

Not really. There was a big college football game yesterday (UGA won) so I think a lot of people were focused on that. Don't underestimate how many UGA fans there are.

That said, there are some articles and mentions of the murder in Atlanta news, such as:

That's why that target was picked - just about everyone has a grievance about insurance companies. Very easy to stir up emotions against insurance and to side with the assassion. Perfect villian.

I think we're being played.

My opinion, with no expectations that others agree.

They still sell the game, thrift stores etc...

I agree. I just wish the images were better, as that would make it super easy.

These agencies have incredible software that we don’t have access to, but with a good enough image any member of the public can do that same.

I’ve done that myself when I’ve seen someone who appears familiar to me but who I can’t place. Take a picture and upload it to a AI facial recognition site, and you can have a name in seconds.

I’ve also done this with random people at the airport. “This person looks very professional or wealthy, I wonder what they do?”

Within a minute or two, I know their name, their job, and if I want to go further, their address.

Provided they have a photo stored somewhere online.

I find it to be heartbreaking. To be clear, I refer to the "he doesn't look American" types of comments. Americans do not have any ethnic look. We are every color and ethnicity.

Now, some people do refer to possible ethnicity, and that's just a way of trying to narrow down who this person is. I personally don't find it that useful, but it might be.

Now, culturally, we do have some mannerisms..That's a messy thing in a country so huge and diverse, but I'm thinking of WWII when American spies had to be taught to stop leaning on things - the casual American "lean" was a big identifier. Sometimes you'll hear Europeans say they can identify an American by their constant smiling or the way they walk. The opposite can be true, too. Sometimes you can identify a non-American by mannerisms. These things are broadly interesting culturally, but are useless for identifying a single person in an incredibly diverse culture, in perhaps the most diverse city on the planet.

Still catching up, but want to say how true this statement is and it’s what I’ve been thinking. ❤️❤️❤️ to the great posts I’ve missed.

Yes, America and in particular a city like NY has people from everywhere. The well-known melting pot.

I had three grandparents who came from Russia and Poland in the early part of the 20th century. Once they became citizens, they were Americans. One grandfather was born in NYC, (as were my parents and all the rest of us).

However, even though they came to NYC as teenagers, they never lost their accents.

Even today, I say this because it’s true...we have every ethnic group and if they are citizens, they are Americans now.

That does NOT however, mean it’s difficult to discern if someone is foreign born.

It's kind of the same way we can spot a tourist immediately (and not just because they are looking up at the buildings).

My neighborhood has had an enormous influx of immigrants from a certain region over the past 30 or so years. They are now Americans.

Yet there are cultural differences, at least if they arrived here when they weren’t little children.

They have a different walk…you can tell from behind where they are from. They stand more closely to you than a native New Yorker would do. They cross the streets differently than a native New Yorker.

I am not trying to demean or denigrate anyone. If I were an ex-pat in another country, they would know that about me, too.

I don’t care about who is from where, but determining this man’s possible ethnic background is just another identifier.

Right now I can’t tell if he is foreign born or just another ethnic New Yorker, like most of us are, because I didn’t see enough of his walk or his stance when talking.

I do think his jog away from the crime scene was like a New Yorker would cross, but I just can’t tell.

Also I agree that if anyone was flirting at the hostel desk, it was the female clerk. She probably has had to deal with her fair share of recalcitrant guests and has honed her skills in how to deal with that. To my mind the suspect threw in a charming grin to ameliorate any sign of being a threatening customer.

JMO and JME.

I don’t think it was specifically reported that these new cab images were captured after the shooting. In my opinion, they could’ve been captured at any point during his 10-day stay.

Just thought I’d throw that out there.

It was reported that the image was taken as he was heading to the bus station after the murder. I had been wondering the same until I saw that report.

Hahahah. I haven’t done it in a while because the app I used is pretty expensive. They’ve also limited some of the things you can now search for (privacy and all).

That, and I got banned for inappropriate use (I did get a refund though).
