He did indeed. This was not some spur of the moment thing for him. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and made sure he did it. If he'd been more careful choosing his weapon there would have been many more shots fired, ammunition supplies depending, of course.
He was calm… but still sloppy. The shot to the leg was bad. Ok so he wanted to get 3 shots off and make sure he was dead? 1 in the head 2 in the chest.

Interesting wording here -- "he was found with a gun similar to the one used in the shooting"

It reads to me as if this man was stopped by LE for some other reason (perhaps a traffic stop?) and then the gun was found during a subsequent search. JMO.
If he still has that gun, wow

Happy Monday, y'all. Hope this is a correct connection to all involved. Justice for Brian Thompson.

That's why I was asking about how old the alleged perp's pictures make him look.

If someone told me he was 30, I'd believe it as I know some very young looking 30-somethings. But, to me, he looks as if he's in his early 20's.

In a case like this, we are almost certain to be somewhat surprised about who this perp is (or perps, if it turns out to be more than one). I do think he's American and not a foreign national although anything is possible at this point.

IMO.
I agree, I think he's almost certainly under 30. Early 20s most likely, as you say.

It was planned but it wasn't well planned, the gun being a case in point.

From what we know, I think it will turn out to be some disaffected fantasist young person who has few friends, probably a dysfunctional family and has a history of being bullied or isolated by others. School shooter type, essentially. Probably got untreated mental health/personality issues going on too which is ironic given who he shot.

I wonder where the gun came from, I think it was stolen.

Did anyone else notice in the getaway timeline that the e-bike disappeared in one block. Just one block.

How have they not found the bike? 2 minutes… one block. No bike found. Just crazy. Even if stolen they have cameras showing enough of that area to see who took it. At least I’d imagine they do. Based off how they caught the suspect on camera in other area in and around that block.

  • 6:56 a.m. — suspect leaves the park at West 77th Street and Central Park West, still on the bicycle.
  • 6:58 a.m. — He passes another camera on 85th Street and Columbus Avenue, still on the bicycle.
  • 7 a.m. — He's at 86th Street, no longer with the bicycle.
  • 7:04 a.m. — He enters a taxi northbound at 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

I get what you're saying here but I have a couple of issues; the "silencer" wasn't a good idea at all. It hugely increased the size of the weapon and is almost certainly what caused the gun to malfunction. It was also pointless as it's not going to hide your activity to any meaningful degree. Waving a massive pistol about and shooting someone in the back is going to get you all the attention in the world, regardless of how quiet the shot is.

This is why, to me, he presents as a random Walt/fantasist type.

As to someone else being around to shoot the shooter - very unlikely, imo. NYC doesn't give carry permits out too readily so realistically the only person likely to be near with a gun would be a cop and there weren't any at the time.
My post was to argue that this guy couldn't possibly be a "hitman", flown in from another country, to take out the victim. Such a hitman would have a proper gun, silencer or not. Just one of many reasons that it was not a hired hitman.
This shooter seems to have been hell bent on using a silencer, choosing that over efficiency. I'm not arguing that he had to have one, but if properly trained, I still thing less noise was better.

A man in the Altoona, Pennsylvania, area is being questioned Monday in connection with last week's UnitedHealthcare CEO killing in Manhattan, in part because he was found with a gun similar to the one used in the shooting, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The sources say it is too soon to determine if his case is connected to the death of Brian Thompson, but they are investigating it as a potentially significant development. NYPD detectives are headed to the area to question the person and assist investigators, the sources said.

The man has a similar gun as the one used in the assassination-style killing, the sources said.

The NYPD is sending detectives to Altoona, the sources said. Altoona is in central Pennsylvania, about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh.

PA didn't have any stops on the bus route, but who knows how convoluted his travel path was. Or maybe he doesn't even live in PA but is visiting someone

I think it could be as simple as he got off the bike, left it just sitting there on the sidewalk, and someone stole it.

i do find this a little odd, but maybe they were told not to at this point, for some reason?? (although i'm not quite sure what they reason would be...)

Maybe anticipating the online reaction of thousands of customers saying “How come you couldn’t pay for my deceased relative’s $50,000 (or whatever amount) life-saving surgery, but you can manage to put up $100,000 for this reward?”

They could even potentially already be putting up the money for the FBI reward, just not doing so publicly.

Was he trying to hide the e-bike? If so, why? If not, why hasn't LE found it yet? An e-bike is not something one can hide under a rock, so the question is - what else has LE missed?

Imo 10 days is not enough to acquire his confidence. Just screams grad student, med student, someone who was big city resident. Even cops can tell through body language if a passer by is nervous, new to big city, etc
I used to work with the public and interacted with people from all over the world visiting Manhattan. For the most part, foreigners were more at ease in the city than Americans who lived outside east-coast cities. That's not a dig, just an observation over the years. And mannerisms and the way people carry themselves are clues where they are from, perhaps more than their physical features, though weight is another clue, in many instances. imo

What does “in part” mean?

Wonder if someone matching suspect's description was stopped and searched. But why would he still be out and about with the gun at least several days after presumably having reached PA? Or did they find a registered owner of a similar weapon? Or even find an owner based on ballistics?

Found with a weapon, found with a fake ID, and similar eyebrows. Hope it's him. Citizen who dropped the dime gets a well deserved reward.

Or he is a college student- he looks about that age and his destination might make more sense if this proves to be the perp.

The person that shot Trump was young but he had a lot of experience, training and practice, with his weapon. He shot Trump in the head, the top of the ear, which was turned just enough, fractions of an inch, to save him.
But if he wanted to kill him above all else he'd have just shot him in the chest. That would have had an almost 100% chance of killing him at that distance. It would have also minimised the danger to anyone else. He tried to shoot him in the head because it would have been more spectacular, imo.

It doesn't change the fact that his bodyguards nor the police made the slightest difference to him being able to make the shot.

I heard the LE had a name, now I see no name.. Is this just journalistic inaccuracy?
I think that was from the Eric Adams interview reported by NY Post and Reuters. I haven't seen it repeated in MSM yet.

I figured the shot in the leg was intentional so he would be hobbled.
