I wonder if he truly wanted/expected to get away. I'm not sure what the motive was, but look what he's accomplished: people are selling and buying shirts with the sketch of him with the gun pulled and the words "deny, defend, depose" splattered across it. People are cheering him on. People are wildly discussing the health insurance policies. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if he was caught. He's lit the powder keg.

What the heck does that mean? That he wasn't targeted because he was the CEO of UHC?

It is a clip in the news article reporting video. It shows before he is near BT about to shoot.

It appears to be sped up in the clip, so I don't know that I would classify as a 'run' across the street.

I think we’re hours away from that. This happened about 3.5 hours ago, and there’s still a matter of NYPD arriving in Pennsylvania, and this guy being interviewed and identified.

I’m banking on this evening, with his name leaking prior to that.

According to the New York Post, he allegedly had a so-called manifesto on him when he was taken into custody by police on on Monday morning.

Investigators also believe he was carrying a ghost gun — the Frankenstein weapon being put together with parts sold online — that matches the gun believed to have been used in the shooting, a senior law enforcement official told The New York Times

Manifesto tells us not a hit man hired by someone close to BT. Some folks on here seem to have been on the right track.

Yes, though it might be at least an hour or 2 away, since 1st NYPD has to arrive there (in PA), then do their own questioning; then do the arrangements for a conference which I assume doesn't take long.

What are the rights of someone in the case of a police officer just coming up to you and asking for ID/searching you? Just genuinely curious (and making sure the perp doesn't have something to argue in court that gets him off). Did they go up to him and say we suspect you were in a crime, what is your name, let us see your ID? How did they know it was fake so quickly? go to the patrol vehicle and run it/call it in?

I think if it wasn't for the silencer he'd have a lot harder time getting away. If everyone around heard a loud gunshot, they'd be much more inclined to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. Just my opinion though.

I think it was to buy him more time before the NYPD responded. NYC has Shot Spotter technology, which detects gunshots and can notify police of the location. I'm betting that the silencer was a counter measure to this.
