I imagine they are in a state of shock after not hearing from him for months and then this. I don't even know how I would react
The family's statement feels exactly right to me. They are victims, too, but they'll face a lot of misplaced hatred, IMO.

I think I'd probably react just like they've done.

yeah I had this image in my brain (from that photo) that turned out to be nothing like how he really looks
except the wide smile
Opposite for me.
The initial pictures, and then the taxi ones, reminded me way too much of my Persian neighbor's 23 year old son. I mentioned this before....spitting image, identical eyebrows, apparent face structure, and I would lose it if he had curly hair. Plus, I haven't seen him around in a month!
Bingo...the curly hair. He's my neighbor's son's double.

I don’t know, do you think his family thought all was fine when they couldn’t get in touch with him? How long was he out of pocket? It appears that he was telling people he had spine surgery-if that really happened, were they concerned about his well-being? Did they know where he was living, if he was still working? He was a brilliant kid-did they worry that he wasn’t living up to his potential, or did they think he was doing the modern day version of backpacking across Europe after college? If I were his Mom, I’d have been going through his online presence to see what he was reading, writing about. Did they see any of this coming.

This is all speculation. I wonder if his family did recognize him. We've heard from his friends, people he went to school with, a professor, but as far as I know, no relatives. Was there something brewing in the family? I'm remembering that affluenza teen from about a decade ago where he killed 4 people and injured many more while driving drunk. His defense attorney presented the 'affluenza' defense and he was given a slap on the wrist but was very quickly charged again for breaking the terms of his probation. His mother had him dye his hair and they fled to Mexico. He ended up spending about two years in jail and his mother has been in and out of jail numerous times for bond violations. Is it possible that there were plans to spirit him out of the country? There's a private airfield in Altoona about 15 minutes away from the McDonalds. Can you imagine have chronic back ache sleeping on a metal bed for the next 40 years? MOO

Statement from the Mangione Family Regarding Luigi Mangione:

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione. We only know what we have read in the media. Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.

The Mangione Family

I am thankful they mentioned the victim in this. I think they can be shocked and devastated for their own family and also realize the victim in this is the dead man.

The healthcare system is not going to be on trial.

His premeditated murder is what should be on trial.
Repeat that for the Assassin Fan Club sitting in the back!

The healthcare industry is not going to be found guilty of anything and it is not going to be sentenced to changing in this case. LM will stand trial for HIS actions. Sorry to ruin the fantasy. I know reality sucks.

(And yes, I also think the insurance industry sucks. But murder won't change that. The "revolution is violent" narrative is manipulation - change can and does happen without murder.)

So when he was found in the McDonald’s in Pennsylvania he had a computer, but did he also have his phone on him?

So what was the purpose of the burner phone back in NYC?

Why didn’t family or close friends identify him as a potential suspect from the photos?
Because I just saw about 15 men on my instagram that look exactly like this guy. You never would think it was your family member, especially if they never showed signs that would spark something. MOO

BBM (Bolded By Me)

The 262-word handwritten manifesto that the police found on Luigi Mangione begins with the writer appearing to take responsibility for the murder, according to a senior law enforcement official who saw the document. It notes that as UnitedHealthcare’s market capitalization has grown, American life expectancy has not. “To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone,” he wrote. The note condemns companies that “continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it.”

I am so confused because the guy in the pic below has completely different eyebrows, further apart from each other and not as thick

I'm curious about his last job, if he quit or was he let go, and if that was involved in his unraveling.

This is behind a paywall and I don't see a way to gift it, but this is what it says:

YouTube terminated three channels owned by the suspect, said Nicole Bell, a spokesperson for the Google-owned video site. The channels had not posted content in over seven months, Bell said.

Edited to add: Haven't seen anything about how recent his activity was on his other social media.

Totally agree.
Also at the age where the diagnosis of a new onset persistent mental illness (bipolar, schizophrenia, psychotic depression) is not out of the realm of possibility. I'm not suggesting he has a diagnosis, but I suspect a "not guilty by reason of insanity" plea would be made.

His affect does seem inappropriate for the entire circumstances- a sign that something could be amiss.

Normally it would mean "deleted by me". For one reason or another.
