There are so many things I’d love to know from his hostel roommates, the hostel staff and hostel surveillance:

Did he have an accent? What clothing do they remember seeing him in? For the first four days he was there the timeline is unaccounted for - do they remember him being gone all day, or did he mostly stay put? Was he using the phone a lot? How was his behavior? What name did he use at check in?
Sorry I don't have the link but he had a fake NJ id.

So did the shooter wear the same clothes for all 10 days he was in NYC? Or did he bring other clothing in the backpack when he arrived and then ditch them or give them to other people or just leave them in his hostel room? He ditched the backpack and that's the only luggage we know he was carrying, correct? I'm sure LE can see what type of luggage he had with him on the hostel cameras from when he checked in - if he had anything else with him. But I'm imagining he didn't bring a rolling suitcase or anything that would be a hassle to deal with.

Still he was there for ten days, ostensibly only with the backpack that was ditched and when it was found, it only had one jacket and monopoly money. Where did all his other stuff end up, I am wondering - clothing, underwear, toiletry items like a toothbrush etc? Or did he literally travel to NYC with just the clothes on his back and a pack full of monopoly money?

and a razor!! ??

He was rehearsing his plan so it would be second nature when he executed it. I think he did run-throughs many times to work out most of the kinks. That's certainly what I would do.

I hope LE is looking through tapes of the locations leading up to the execution to see if he is spotted before the day. That's days of tapes, though, so would use up precious boots-on-the-ground time for LE.

[DBM because misread timeline.]
I don't disagree but that amount of planning and logistical detail screams he did not act alone. Just to rehearse for something he could not possibly have known would happen, i.e., that Thompson would be walking alone on a NY sidewalk at 6:30 AM from a hotel, is very hard to chalk up as some angry customer acting alone. It would seem to me a person bent on revenge for a denied claim would be more a crime of opportunity and would plan such an event near Thompson's home or place of work. It likely required "inside information" (no pun intended) to know where Thompson would be, when he'd be there, and that he'd be alone.

Yes I remember hearing that. I just wonder what name was on it. Obviously not his, but I’m still curious.

Internet well-known sleuths refuse to help find the killer - not because they believe someone should be killed - but as a protest against current insurance policies.

TizzyEnt explained the widespread reluctance to help, telling his followers: "I don't think it's that difficult to figure out why. There isn't a single person in this country who hasn't themselves or had someone very near and dear to them suffer from the abysmal thing that is privatised healthcare."

I may have lost track, but didn't LE say they thought he had headed south via Greyhound and now they have authorities in Atlanta GA on high alert? Or is that so 2 days ago?!?
They are utilizing Atlanta LE because the murderer's trip to NYC was aboard a Greyhound bus. The Greyhound's route originated in Atlanta.

"Police believe he may have traveled to New York City last month by Greyhound bus, three senior law enforcement officials familiar with the case told NBC News. The bus left from Atlanta.

Officials in New York are looking into whether they can find a name used for the Nov. 24 trip. Greyhound has said it is cooperating with authorities on the investigation. Atlanta police officials said Friday they were contacted by the NYPD and will provide assistance as needed.

Three sources told NBC News that police are in Atlanta and will be searching for video from that bus station — as well as other stations along the Greyhound route to New York City — for possible clues"

Putting the theatrics aside for a second..on the morning of the murder, the perp KNOWS somehow, that he has time to go to Starbucks and get warm/have a drink. He must have had someone (I assume via phone/earbud) telling him BT's movements. ESPECIALLY, since the walk from the Marriott to the nearest Hilton entrance is very few yards. The walk consists of walking across the street and heading at most 1 minute east to the Hilton. It's pretty dark out still, he had to have been informed that BT was BT and where/when he was about to cross the street. I don't see any scenario where the perp acts alone. Either he has an accomplice or has some sort of relationship with BT. JMO

The reward money was $10,000 yesterday. I posted a photo of the reward poster in the previous thread.

Today it’s a lot more:

The FBI has offered a $50,000 (£39,000) reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest.

Seems they don’t have as much information as they would like so far.

Thank you. I feel like I'm going mad every time I open this thread and see someone says it's a woman. This is clearly a man, I don't know how anyone ever thought otherwise.
Because, as of late, society has got us all confused! I mean, let's play devil's advocate for a moment. Let's say this was a woman disguised as a man. The MO just doesn't check out. How many women have you heard of in the news commit assassinations? Not Hollywood movies, in the actual news, real life. Yeah, none. Also, the height, build, and stance of this person is clearly a man.

And that the DNA is essentially insignificant in this case because he may not be in a database, and neither is his family.

I'd say the DNA is significant, because even if the suspect isn't in a database, there's a very real chance of LE identifying him by genetic genealogy in the long-run (months or years). Over time I think this tool is going to be increasingly difficult to evade.

We might have to revisit the Brian Laundrie thread. Lol.

This guy could have had a few tickets ready to go, depending on what transpired.
Has anybody checked their garden to see if the shooter is under the flowerbed?!

My first thought when I heard this earlier last week was that he picked up the backpack second hand (at a thrift store, for example) intentionally because he liked the design (big enough to hold what he needs), but that it would already have lots of other DNA on it since it’s used.
Or like here, this is the same one from Poshmark that sold back in September. This link also has photos of the inside if you’re interested in seeing the different compartments.

Looks like a beard is poking out from under the mask in one of the photos released (cropped and circled by me)

Asking forgiveness because I usually try to catch up first so I don’t write something that’s been answered 30 times, but don’t have the time right now.

I think this is brilliant, @citizen_sleuth.

I can’t figure out what kind of beard he may have…a chinstrap beard? In the unmasked hostel pix his chin is clean-shaven.

Or it’s fake? To throw off the scent as these pix are post-murder?

I don’t know.

Also in pic #1 from Starbucks, I believed I saw Russian, but this looks Middle Eastern.
Maybe one of the former USSR nations like Kazakhstan? Or maybe Iranian?

I will catch up later.

I see a man. I don't see makeup or FX. This is a grown man. Walks like one too.

-- It does appear the coward is leaving behind clues or whatever, playing some type of game
-- No identification of the coward has been made at this time... It’s coming though.
-- The coward’s backpack was found (was there total of two backpacks?). If so, then one backpack is still missing
-- The murder weapon has not been recovered so that tells me the coward most likely has it on person

All opinions only
I get why you are using the word coward, but as a matter of profiling, I think it’s inaccurate. He may be insane, he may be a killer, but the manner in which he pulled off this murder, suggests the word coward to be inaccurate at best.

Of course it is a man! Why is this even in dispute?!
It was the one pic at the hostel. The lighting and angle from the smiling pic made HIS complexion more feminine and his eye lashes were long. They were totally ignoring the other pic that showed him clearly to be a man. These new ones clearly he is a man. Any talk of him being a woman or trying to look like a woman at this time is just nonsense.

I initially thought it was just people projecting due to the ever-evolving discourse on gender issues in society and was annoyed by all the extra comments to wade through. :) But maybe they are seeing something that doesn't quite process (as some suggested, makeup highlights or mask-like layer).

Nah. We have no problem doing this ourselves without outside intervention! Race wars come to mind.
I wouldn’t eliminate the possibility of something like this especially with the change in administration coming. I mean, what was the point of 9/11? They can’t do something at that scale anymore so this is the closest - take out a top businessman on camera on the world stage. Easier to do as he had no security as opposed to taking out a prominent politician.
