There is surely an element of narcissim here.

He is blaming everyone else for his problems, and not accepting any responsibility.
Especially true if he did it to himself in one of those activities.

According to a report by The San Francisco Standard, Mangione’s mother, Kathleen Mangione, had reported him missing to the San Francisco Police Department on Nov. 18 after he displayed concerning behavior on several occasions.
What to Know About Alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooter Luigi Mangione's Family — and Why He's Been Estranged From Them For 6 Months

bright, driven, mentally ill? I am waiting to learn more about this man. What caused him to distance from family and friends. Did it really start with the back issues, or was that just coincidental to another health issue, a mental one?

I don’t understand why NYC has not charged him with first degree under the grounds of domestic terrorism

“The U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines terrorism as the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”

He is surely by killing BT intimidating healthcare execs to change course on policy
My hunch is because they don't want to spend time/take the risk of defining this murder had political or social objectives and take the easier route of simply proving murder. What would be the point? Second-degree murder in NY is not a "lesser" charge - it's still a super serious charge! It just doesn't meet the special criteria of first degree.

It makes me angry -- what he has perpetrated onto his family.
By all accounts they worried about him and I think were looking for him as well ?

Sure, blame your own mother.
Awful.
Hardly 'cruel', it was common years ago to try to coax left-handed people to switch, but that's largely gone out of favor now.
People prob. thought they were being helpful to the child to encourage them to use their right hand, that's all.
If & when he winds up in prison for life or however long -- he can eat with his left hand all he wants !

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old identified as a “strong person of interest” in last week’s slaying of a health insurance executive on the streets of Manhattan, was reported missing to San Francisco police last month, The Standard has learned.
His mother, Kathleen Mangione, made the report to the San Francisco Police Department on Nov. 18, according to a police source with knowledge of the case. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Mangione had been in San Francisco or if his mother had reason to believe he was.

LM obviously had family who were concerned for his well-being.
Just adds layers of disgust imo, for his actions.
Fwiw, LE do have their man.
Omo.
He is unhinged, and has been for a long time. I'm left-handed. Tables are set with the fork on the left, the knife and spoon on the right. If he came from a "wealthy" family, he would know that. If he wanted to make a pathetic childhood complaint, it would be that his mother made him eat soup with the spoon in his right hand.

He's complaining for the sake of portraying himself as a victim ... complaining that aiming his non-dominant hand at his mouth was traumatic.

"The suspected killer of UnitedHealthCare CEO Luigi Mangione claimed his mother made him eat steak with his right hand even though he is left-handed.

Mangione made the claims in his review of the book The Four-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris, as reported by the Wall Street Journal."

Further to my post on page 1 of the thread I think now that shooting BT in the leg first then the back was not a case of shooting badly, LM will have had agonising pain in his leg from his back damage so wanted BT to feel terrible pain in his leg and back before he died
I agree...

He has a degree in computer science. He knows what a Faraday bag is, imo.

I know what a Faraday bag is, as well. I'm guessing many people in Baltimore also do: Baltimore's car theft crisis grows as tech savvy thieves target keyless vehicles

Having a backpack that has that function built-in doesn't mean anything nefarious, or anything at all, though, in my opinion. They were trying to use that prove some sort of criminal sophistication, where it's not a valid point towards that.

The ghost gun alone should be enough to prove that, and won't set any precedence for any other prosecutors to try to misuse it against someone who randomly has something RFID-blocking.

On his Reddit account in April 2024, the shooter went into an insane amount of detail of how and why he selected his backpack, and the RFID-blocking aspect wasn't mentioned anywhere. He may not have even been aware that the bag had it.

People can do a whole lot with adrenaline.
But this was well planned and wasn't a spur of the moment thing he didn't expect to happen. He was calm when he undertook this and when he decided to get out of bed at probably 5am.

Well, he can carry on his crusade from prison. Hopefully, he will not enjoy the rest of his life. IMO
If they're afraid of jury nullification and cut a deal with him on second degree murder, he could be out in ten years.
He really should be locked up for the rest of his life, JMO.

Who was the 9/11 related terrorist who was finally convicted and sentenced to LWOP after a high profile very complicated trial?

I'll never forget the judge's last words to him saying, "You're a nobody now"
No one will hear your ranting etc ever again, or some such.
Was it Khalid Shaikh Mohammed?

Luigi will also become a nobody once convicted and imprisoned.

I wouldn't be surprised if he over dramatized his maladies for attention and sympathy.

Based on social media and other responses I'm seeing - I think it is a very high risk unless they can get some 'older' people in the jury box. IMO.
I'd presume that the prosecutor could mitigate that by pointing out that if we start allowing people to shoot people like this, then people shooting doctors who work for Planned Parenthood could use the same excuse.

Also, they're going to need to get a younger crowd in to avoid people who have had negative experiences with medical claims not being covered and so forth.

Forbes article posted earlier states his reddit username and some information on his posts. Reddit has removed his account but all of his posts are still accessible and very interesting. Am I allowed to post a link to his posts or is that against the rules even though it was verified by Forbes? Thanks for your help!

I would be really curious to see this if you’re allowed to post

The judge will have their hands full. If he’s so sure what he did was justice, he needs to plead guilty. IMO
Perhaps they’ll dose him with gabapentin for court for hearings/trial. I’ve heard that is frequently used for defendants who tend to have outbursts when they have court dates. But then, I guess the defendant would need to agree to this, which is questionable .

Oh he's loving the attention.
I wouldn't go straight to "loving the attention." M00
It seems there are underlying factors that push him. M00

Given the support for him on Tiktok which hardly anyone over 25 uses it won’t be easy to find a jury that has no biases

He could have made something 3D to help.
Oh my this made me lol for real.

I realize that maybe younger people are maybe more self absorbed and I get it.. but if this guy is going to be the "martyr" of this cause then it would be nice to know if his problems really are a health insurance issue or just a self centered, arrogant, a-hole problem.
