One Hundred and Twenty???? No way. Who could they possibly interview that would add up to 120?

They barely had enough money for 3 to 5 expert witnesses. He does not have a large contingent of family and local friends supporting him, as far as I can tell.

WHO can they be counting in? They only asked for 4 or 5 transport requests. Where are all of these alleged witnesses coming from?

I CALL BS ON THIS NUMBER.

Doesn't the state have to give them a blank check to hire expert witnesses? They've probably hired quite a few.

If there are any gaps in the State's case, I honestly think FEWER witnesses for RA would be better. Just stand back and say, "Case not proven."

But if the State's case is solid, then the defense needs to chip, chip, chip at it.

it’s no wonder the prosecution wanted the Geofence data excluded from evidence if RA is nowhere to be found on it.

Going to be a very tough case for the prosecution in my opinion.

It's not good for the defense, either. According to the defendant, he was checking his stocks on it. How do you check stocks when you leave your phone at home? Not like they have a ticker on the trail.

Not necessarily. Could just mean RA didn't bring his phone---which is a bad look for him because he said he was using it on the bridge.

I respectfully disagree...Geofence data isn't necessary when he already admitted to being at the trails...and was seen by eyewitnesses. Like the prosecution said in their mini-opening statement, their goal is to prove that RA is bridge guy and that they are one and the same. Eyewitnesses, video, audio, and an unspent round...in addition to confessions from RA are not going to be discredited because his phone didn't place him in the area.

All just my opinion.

Yes, exactly. If someone is on the way into a park and considering kidnapping/murder, they are turning off their phone and leaving it in the car.

I imagine, after 198 threads going from “Found Deceased” to “Currently Awaiting Trial,” by tomorrow or shortly thereafter we will be switched to “Trials.”

When we reconvene there, and when the verdict is in, I know we all yearn for justice for Abby and Libby and for some small consolation for their families.

I certainly have my firm opinion regarding RA=BG, but whenever the verdict comes and whatever the verdict is, my interest is not that “I was right, you were wrong.”

I want justice for these two very young teens, who thought they’d have an adventure of one kind or another. Maybe to meet who they thought was A-Shots. Maybe because for some (to me unfathomable) reason, walking that bridge was considered fun. Maybe they just wanted to get outside on a warmish day for February with no school.

We know what happened. Some of us believe it’s RA and some of us don’t. Whatever happens, I hope justice prevails.

I believe we all feel the same.

I’m ready. Thinking primarily now of the families and what they’ll endure, having to see RA daily, and learning details they perhaps don’t want to really know.

All JMO.

Worse decision RA ever made after deciding to head out and murder people that day.
Absolutely, and I still believe this was pre-planned, it had to be these girls on this day.

BG/RA was spotted by young girls on his way to his murders with something covering his mouth. He already knew he'd have potential witnesses to deal with if he proceeded to commit his wicked deeds. Had it been a situation in his mind where he could come another day for other victims, he arguably would have chosen to do so at that point. But he didn't, and I think there's a reason for that. I also think what Lebrato said about one girl being killed and the other sacrificed makes no sense whatsoever in a cult scenario, they'd both have been sacrificed. An SK/sexual sadist killer might act in the way this killer did, but a cult wouldn't, jmo. There's a certain reason why one victim was treated so radically different from the other, and I'm hoping the trial will give us some answers.

So there it is. After so many years, it's stated that the theory of the crime is sexually motivated homicide. Hopefully, we can lay that debate to rest at last.

I literally burst into tears reading this. Still sobbing.

After thousands of posts, and a motive that most of us anticipated, it is a nightmare to imagine that BG (RA) was “interrupted,” yet the girls weren’t able to escape. That could have been their only chance and it didn’t happen.

I do 100% believe that he had a gun, otherwise they may have tried to run away.

“Interrupted” and “casually” are unhinging me.

I really pray for the families. Look how affected we all are and we never knew them in real life.

Can’t post a link yet, but I don’t think the state made a stellar impression, so MOO for now. Evidence is lacking, always has been. And, yes indeed the burden of proof rests on the P. Can’t wait to see how well they can present what little evidence they have. JMHO

I know, it was just a figure of speech. I can't figure out where the defense accumulated so many witnesses. Is it possible they're blowing smoke or exaggerating? They have a history.
I was wondering, because I only followed the Rhoden Massacre a little, and I know how complicated the trials were: Did they have anywhere near 120 defence witnesses?

Just because the state says it was a sexually motivated, whether or not it took place, does not make it so. Can’t wait to see how they prove that. JMO

You are absolutely right.
In October 2022, RA put himself on the first platform of the bridge just minutes before the girls would have arrived, dressed like the man in Libby’s video.
He is still on that bridge. Nothing his defense has said or manufactured has been able to take him off that bridge.
Where his phone was doesn’t matter, because we know where RA was…by his own word.

Some notes before a bite to eat. 1/

Voir dire included 52 potential jurors, with another 52 waiting in the wings. They’ll be the first called Tuesday morning in Allen Superior Court. 2/

Jury selection started with a mini-opening statement that Allen’s attys asked for a while back and that Judge Fran Gull allowed.

The moment provided some insight into where both sides were heading on the question of Abby Williams and Libby German’s murders in 2017. 4/

Prosecutor Nick McLeland said jurors will hear evidence Richard Allen used a gun when he told them at Monon High Bridge “Guys … down the hill.” Prosecutor argued that Allen intended to sexually assault that, but was interrupted, guided them across Deer Creek and killed them. 5/

McLeland said jurors during the 5-week trial would hear Allen in his own words confess multiple times “not only how he did it but why he did it.” 6/

Atty Andrew Baldwin said defense would show that Baldwin’s alleged confessions had wrong info about the crime, saying he’d shot the girls when the murder weapon when the girls were killed by someone cutting their necks. 7/

Baldwin said the confessions also came while Allen had been treated to solitary conditions during what he called an unprecedented pretrial confinement at Westville Correctional Facility. 8/
