re: convicting an innocent man.

Do you think that a case that is under this much scrutiny will have the hallmarks of false-conviction? LE corruption occurs in obscure cases, wherever there is little public interest. I have still to see any big public cases in recent years overturned - the M Peterson case, famously, was overturned the moment the public's attention was on it.

If anything I see cases that IMO are clear cut (Adnan Syed) get so much oxygen just because there is public interest in them.

IMO, I greatly doubt that a conspiracy/biased court wouldn't have been pulled apart in this case, with all the sleuthing and media attention. No, if you want injustice, you will find it in the thousands of anonymous cases getting lost in the grind of the system.

All IMO

Do we suppose each side gave their mini opening statements to the jury pool? Defense must want to saturate the media... wondering how much leeway they were granted.

I've never heard of a statement before a jury's been selected.

I believe, that I read somewhere amongst the motions, that the DT requested to give a small opening statement to the jurors. I can't find the link, so IMO

Hahahahah. I’d just love to know how that even came up. Like what question brought that out?
Oh boy, was there an exchange like 'so you can see the future/auras/ghosts?' 'yes' 'and no matter what the ghosts tell you, it won't influence the way you vote?' 'It won't' 'sweet, you are to become a juror'.

All moo, trying to find a moment of lightness.

So when they word it as 6 POTENTIAL jurors have been seated does that mean they are jurors or not? That word potential is not clear. Is it because some will be alternates or is this just narrowing down the 300 to a smaller group and then they are selected from that group? Maybe I'm over thinking this.. lol

Perhaps it just means they made it past the first stage, but I think "potential" is because there will also be alternates on the jury. It's not known at this point who will be a juror and who will be an alternate.

Just a guess.

in Russ McQuaid’s interview with Kit Hanley he mentioned he expected to hear brief opening statements from both the prosecution and defense, which could foreshadow strategies

How are jurors selected for a trial?

After a panel is randomly selected and reports to a courtroom, a process known as voir dire begins. During voir dire, the judge and possibly the attorneys will ask you questions to determine whether you can keep an open mind and remain fair and impartial. After you have been questioned, you will either be selected or excused for that particular case. If you are selected, you and the other selected jurors will receive instructions from the judge as to what is expected of you. If you are not selected, you may be excused for the day or sent to another courtroom with another panel.

According to the statement given by journalist Russ McQuad with Fox 59 ( one page back) media had to be there this morning to catch the “mini” opening statements given to potential jury pool.

Angela Ganote worded it as “six jurors have been seated”.
That sounds more definitive.
