Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #200

More than likely several confessions that match what is known about the crime (to include the one made on the phone with KA), and then changing versions with additional false details thrown in after KA got the lawyers involved. I suspect there will be a clear line as to when the faulty information starts to be included in the confessions.

Why is it more than likely?

We don't know yet, that's the point.

The hair is so odd to me because, I understand this was always going to be an extremely expensive case to try for the state but you had several years to get DNA samples from the families and could confirm it was a family member’s hair and nip that in the bud easily, why not do that?

Banfield is discussing the Delphi trial now on NewsNation.

Notes:
  • Susan Hendricks was in court today. KA teared up when Nick described the murders and how girls were found.
  • “Undoing” is the reason Abby was redressed.
  • BP reached for her own throat when Nick described how Libby likely reached for her slit throat and the tree as she fell to her death. :(

It is horrendous and heartbreaking to read the details of what prosecutors believe happened to Abbey and Liberty, how they were found and what the crime scene looked like. I can’t begin to imagine how distressing it must be for BP and both of the girl’s loved ones who are attending the court hearings to hear these graphic details. My heart goes out to them, and they are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you to all of you for posting updates about what is happening in court. It is greatly appreciated.

Stupid question incoming....

So, when felons are convicted, then have to provide a DNA sample (in most states? Or all?) that goes into CODIS. During a murder investigation, the same type of system isn't used? Why would these family members (or anyone) even need to provide their DNA more than once?

Just curious.

As always, JMO.
In my experience, when we were requested to give more mouth swabs, we learned there was always new avancements in dna analysis. It made for better inspections of matches.

What does it mean---undoing?

I bet they did test the families earlier. Libby's sister said she has given her DNA to investigators a few times over the years.

Pretending, basically. That the killer did nothing wrong. Making a more benign scene, as if that can undo the horror and the death.

It's the same reason a parent who brutally murders their children in a family annihilation will tuck their bodies tenderly up in bed with their teddy bears.

While I'm someone that believes RA is the right person, everything about this investigation and judicial process is beyond terrible. Imagine what's going on in other cases there that aren't getting the same media attention. Scary.

Took them half a decade to interview someone who said they were on the bridge that day.

Should be our first clue the investigation was severely flawed.

So not even remotely surprised they didn't try and confirm whose hair it was.

One quote from the article, not new, but just a reminder of how brave Libby had to have been and the presence of mind she had to do this:

-————————-—

“After the girls crossed the bridge, they saw a man behind them, so Libby started a recording on her phone at 2:13 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2017, he said.”

——-——————

I’m still amazed that she did this. Those 40+ terrifying seconds that she captured will hopefully be the key to justice for her and Abby.

I feel that both girls have been crying out somewhere for this justice to come, and for their families to attempt some healing.

Seven years waiting for this day.

Right?!!
Several times at trial today Libby was defined as someone to speak her mind or not put up with stuff. That is exactly the type of young lady who instantly starts recording a creepy man.

As this trial goes on Libby's personality, I feel, is going to be brought alot stronger.

This made me sad.

Libby was a true crime fan, her grandmother said.

“She was logical. She loved crime shows. She said I’m going to help you solve crimes. She wanted to make a difference,” Patty said.

Courtroom Decorum is not punishment... And since when did water bottles become an appendage? I carry one in my bag but I don't need it out constantly and could comply here.

"This case, because of you, has generated a lot of publicity," she said.

Gull made it clear that reporters are supposed to be quiet during the trial. No talking. No disruptions. No food. No drinks. No cellphones. No cameras or recording devices in the courthouse.

"It's important that jurors pay attention," she stressed. "I do intend to run the courtroom efficiently."

Those are amongst the things that make me lean towards believing RA is the guy.

But I can so easily put myself into those shoes. Likes to go on walks by self? Check. But likes to do so to listen to music and unwind. Not able to account for when/where I was? Check. But lives alone and doesn't check in/out with anyone. Leaves phone at home, meaning no traceability there? Check. But likes to wear thin workout clothes without the extra weight. Works in the community and people seem to like me? Check. But also a very quiet, cautious dude.

I get there are plenty of reasons why RA is looking guilty.

There are just so many "Check...but"s that I can place myself into. I just really, really hope the state has the goods. More than what we know so far...because: was I at spotted leaving my apartment on security footage 15 minutes ago? Check...but..."
I just hope the trial is fair and there are enough facts/evidence to either convict or acquit. I want the right person/people put behind bars forever.

I had to go look..

Undoing is a special form of offender behavior representing a symbolic reversal of the crime. This special form of personation occurs at a crime scene when there is a close association between the offender and the victim or when the victim represents someone of importance to the offender.

I wondered if RA’s alleged confessing to shooting them, then burying them resembles a mental behaviour similar to ‘undoing’. That’s not quite as barbaric as slicing throats or leaving a naked teen to the elements, save for a few branches tossed over them perhaps including other ground litter. Altering the truth might make his actions appear a little less monstrous in his own head. JMO
