It all seems absolutely crazy before opening that the jurors are being given this information. Would this not make them more curious to google the case as they have time on their hands?

I can not wrap my head around some of this stuff being from the U.K. It seems like even some people from the U.S. can’t even understand it either, so I guess I am not alone.

It stumped me. When I recently sat for jury duty, most of the questions were about ourselves. The closest they got to details of the case was if we'd ever been victim of a similar alleged crime or if we knew anyone involved or their places of employment. Definitely no specific details of the case.

Correct.. otherwise the jury pool is not of your peers and is basically clueless hermit people who have not heard about this local case.
That was in fact IMO the issue with the Casey Anthony case; I believe they prioritised not knowing about the case so much, they ended with slightly less than average jurors, since the case was everywhere - the fact they hadn't heard of it was absolutely not the norm. I am glad that 'only' 65% of the potential jurors have heard of the Delphi case, this means it's not as prevalent as the CA one - and I hope they didn't exclude everyone who'd just seen a snippet of coverage on their TV.

Well, *cough cough* it wouldn't be the first time someone from that defense shared information they shouldn't have.
Well, what we know as facts thus far is that there is zero confirmation that this hair has been DNA tested or that it is even human.

We also know that whatever hair it is (animal or human) does not match RA.

Time - and testimony - will tell.

Anything other than that is speculation, or *someone's* opinion and not confirmed by anything thus far presented as evidence, or even via mini-opening, in the court of law.

Exactly! And to add to that; we don't know the amount of hair; we don't know if there was, for example, samples of animal hair gathered, and amongst them, a human hair; we don't know anything, but I suppose doubt festers in the absence of knowledge.

I agree

There's really no value in reacting to vague claims by the attorneys not even in opening (and even then take it with a grain of salt). And even less point in getting invested in the opinions of surrogates when they have not heard the evidence either. Best to see what is actually in evidence!

Mini Openings are unusual but are allowable in Indiana (and elsewhere):

The Defence was granted their motion to have mini-openings and the order was entered by Judge Gull in this case on 24 July 2024

(b) To facilitate the jury panel's understanding of the case, with the court's consent the parties may present brief statements of the facts and issues (mini opening statements) to be determined by the jury.
