Walking by he Dldn't see or register the 9 yo in favor of noticing the teens.
"Mullin said Allen told police he saw three girls on the bridge and was “looking at his stock ticker.” Allen then said one of the girls “appeared to be older” and that she was “babysitting.”

So he did see, but either got his number wrong or he just didn't include the small child.

RA says he contacted LE because his wife told him to. Welp, he could've told her he did talk to LE without actually doing it. How would she have known? Then, he likely would've gotten away with it.

Typical response of many perps - they insert themselves into the investigation to get an idea of how much LE knows.

Sorry for the simple question but were police able to recover the phone Richard Allen was using at the time of the murders?

No he had 23 devices that LE went through yet they couldn't locate the phone he was using that day.

I know DD gets flack but kudos to him for writing down the information regarding RA's phone.

IMO, he was extremely anxious other people would recognize him from the photo. Anxiety is a crippling emotion. He didn't believe anyone could prove he'd even seen the girls. So he reduced his anxiety by admitting - not to police, but someone who felt safe - that he'd parked there and been there.

Yes, I understand totally. I'm just pondering the thought he could've lied and just pretended he went to the cops - and he likely never have been caught. He really might have gotten away with two murders of local girls outside in the middle of the day and stay hidden in plain sight for the rest of his life.

It's nerve wracking how thin that margin is - the moment he went ahead and contacted LE made all the difference. It took a long time for it to matter, but that moment was pivotal. And it EASILY could've not ever happened.

IiRC Not on the bridge, but just past the FB Plaza on the trail.

I've been following the trial of Melody Farris in GA (for the 2018 murder of her husband), and today there was very interesting testimony regarding cell phone extraction by GA LE using Penlink. It was interesting as data from cell phones was originally extracted using Cellebrite and analyzed by LE technicians. However, as law enforcement techs have continued to gather and review information and re-analyze everything there's new (as of just a week or so ago) evidence to be presented regarding the cell phones in the case. The case is still on-going but I think there's a great deal that would apply to this case. (And, from what I understood from today's testimony, the actual phone need not be re-utilized... only the data extracted via Cellebrite so this would at least be applicable for A/L phone).

This is a bit off the path of today's discussion but I found it quite noteworthy.

ETA: Testimony today (and will continue) was by Lindsay Harris, Commander of the Intelligence Division of the Cherokee Co Sheriff's office.

IIRC The first photo was released late on 2/17 asking for the man to come forward as a witness.

The still frame photo of "BG" on the bridge from LG's phone was released February 15th the day after the recovery of the bodies. No one knew at the time it came from her phone, that info wasn't released until approximately a week later.

On Sept. 21, 2022, she came across a file folder that was not with the others she was managing. Inside was a report with the name “Richard Allen Whiteman.” The report indicated that Allen was on the Monon High Bridge on the day of the murders.

She immediately notified Tony Liggett, lead investigator on the case and the current Carroll County sheriff. Shank noted that the tip sheet said “cleared” and wasn’t sure why Allen’s name was entered incorrectly as “Richard Allen Whiteman.”

The discrepancy likely surrounded Allen’s address, which was located on Whiteman Drive.

This woman deserves a badge!

I went back to see when the photo was released and it was 2/15/2017 and in that release it was not stated that it was from the victims phone, it was said that they wanted to talk to this person because he might have seen something. I am unsure of exactly when we learned it was a photo from the victims phone, but he was not being reported as a POI when the photo was released and it was not stated that the photo was from a video on the victims phone.

On 2/16/2017 RA didn't know they had a video or his voice on that video.
Can you link the 2/15/17 release date. Thanks I would like to look at it.

I remember the release and LE saying it came from a trail cam.

Date of 2/15 just not not jiving for me, hoping to see the 15th release link.

He may have gotten the number wrong, but he mentioned a younger girl that was with the group that claimed to have seen him.

I wonder how many groups of girls were out there at the same time, with a younger child along for the ride?

Groups that came forward to say they were on the trail that day too.

I’m going to guess 0.
Especially noting after all those years one was taller with dark hair.

I am thinking he would not have done that without his wife telling him too.

Of course, it doesn't matter one tiny bit what I think. I know that.

He's an odd one for me to figure out so far. He seems so timid, but obviously isn't due to the extremely bold and horrible crimes he committed. Usually, some would think only the bold, cocky sociopaths have the courage to go to LE to find out what they know. So, I don't know how to read him yet.

He may be putting on an act, with his shy withdrawn, "emotionally vulnerable" persona. But it took some nerve to approach LE, demand they meet him in a location he thought was safe, then tell them he was on the bridge that day. He mananged to do all that without arousing much suspicion from the ranger guy who interviewed him. Maybe he knew the ranger from around town and thought he would be a "safe" person to approach. RA certainly didn't walk into the local command center to ask for an interview, so maybe he knew he could handle it with this guy.

IDK, it will be interesting to find out more about RA. I wish we could watch video of the trial and get some idea of RA's personality, etc. by watching his body language.

Feb. 15, 2017

Officials confirmed on Feb. 15, 2017, that the bodies found a day earlier were Abby and Libby. Police announced that they had found Libby’s phone with what they believed to be photos of the suspected killer on the bridge. The Indiana State Police released a photo of the man. Suspicions were raised about Ronald Logan, the man who owned the property near the crime scene. His home was searched, but no evidence linking him to the crimes was found.

@NewsyBarbara

Of the more than 50,000 tips received in #DelphiMurders only ONE mentioned Richard Allen, and that came from him on 2/16/17. The video the state says shows his car arriving on 2/13/17 - wasn't obtained until 9/2022, per testimony of Kathy Shank and Steve Mullin.

It was still in the possession of the Hooser Harvestore, per today's testimony. Mullin testified previously he took screen shots of it, but apparently they didn't take the entire video back in 2017.

He told LE he parked at old farm bureau bldg but no such bldg existed so they figured he meant the old CPS bldg.

Sure! I just went to the Maps and Media thread and started on page one. There are several articles on that first page.
