"[Mullins] also discussed drone footage taken of the trail on Feb. 13, 2024, which state prosecutor Nick McLeland said was to represent and compare what the two scenes looked like seven years apart."

I think that footage taken at the same time of year will be very helpful to the jury when it comes to visualizing what was going on/the scene.

So, interesting tidbit at the end of yesterday's The Murder Sheet podcast episode (about 1 hr 49 min in):

They said that after the jurors were dismissed, the defense said they wanted to
submit a deposition from Anna Williams, Abby's mom, as "an offer of proof on a 3rd party perpetrator." It was given on Aug 30, 2024--after that 3 day hearing. The defense said it was new evidence that they had not had at the time of that hearing.
I hope it's dismissed as quickly.

This Defense is all gall.

Begins at 1hr, 42 minutes, 48 seconds in for those looking for it.

I'm really unsure as to what tangible, admissable factual evidence that directly links another SODDI(s) to this crime that Anna Williams would be able to/did provide to the Defence. According to Gull's previous ruling on SODDI(s), that is what the Defence will have to show proof of before they can bring in any of these (now) ever-changing wild theories of theirs ....

Just a thought that popped into my head. Why would he let Abby redress herself if he intended to kill and leave them there?

There is so much unknown that I hope we finally learn at trial.

For example, if Abby was redressed in Libby's clothes, was this just Libby's jacket or in her pants too? We know that Libby was naked, and her tie-dyed shirt and shoes were found in the river.

Did the girls have defensive wounds?

Do they have a theory on which girl was murdered first?

Years ago, thinking of this case, I would envision Libby telling Abby to "run" -- shocking RA and that was when he reacted, and possible jammed his gun and dislodged the bullet.

Things were not going as planned. I think RA was in a rage when when he put knives to the throats of his victims -- slitting them open.

Reporting on the states opening statement has been that it was good and it flowed well and was easy to follow. It's meant to be an introduction to the case and it sounds like it was done well. No need to waste time by detailing everything they will present.

I think the confessions will speak for themselves and when the time comes and the state plays them it will be in RA's own words and that will always hit better than someone else trying to explain what will be in them.
Correct!!! I know we are all interested in this, but it is a court proceeding. It's not designed to be the blockbuster hit of the movies. I am glad the prosecution is cleanly stating their case and facts. Not trying to weirdly drop "bombshells". This is real life. The bombshell here is that 2 little girls went for a walk and ended up with their throats slashed. No more "drama" is needed. Unfortunately, the defense is nothing but drama.

And yeah. Before my post keeps getting replied to saying "source", it's clearly my opinion. Based on basic facts of this absolutely horrible case.

Twice in this article, shoes (plural) are mentioned. JJ saw a pair of black Nike shoes. The jurors were shown a photo of Libby's shirt and shoes.

So what shoe was under Abby?

As always, JMO.
I am wondering if it was her own. If it was it would make more sense to me.

I think it's fairly obvious to most at this point how one person could have taken these victims "down the hill." One man, with a gun, cornering two young girls on a rickety bridge in the middle of a fairly vast wooded area with a gun. Scream to who? You can, but you're probably going to die in that instant. Run where? This person has a gun. You run, someone is highly likely to die, and it's not going to be him.

I think that just as the defense attorneys are counseling jurors to look in their hearts and minds before convicting their client, the defense attorneys themselves should consider what they would have done in the same situation as the victims in the case. I know I, too, would have been down that hill.

I think this type of inference from the defense is going to backfire for them. It's like they're victim blaming a bit to hint that Libby would have yelled. (Or should have. Or could have.)

That might rub the wrong way for a juror or two.

MOO.

I agree, but it has been reported that Abby had both of her own shoes on (and no socks).

So, why is there a third shoe?

And were Libby's shirt and shoes on the South or North side of the creek? Anyone know? Wish we could see the exhibits/map.

As always, JMO.

Or maybe later on in the trial they will introduce evidence of yelling or screams heard at some other time of day/night, so they are laying the groundwork?

Today in the Delphi murder trial of Richard Allen:Testimony this morning focused on the search for Abby Williams and Libby German near the Monon High Bridge Trail after they didn’t return to meet their ride the afternoon of Feb. 13, 2017. 1/

View attachment 538924

Steve Mullin, who was Delphi police chief, testified about returning to work that night to help the sheriff’s dispatch coordinate the initial search before it was called off just before 2 am Feb. 14, 2017.‘I still believed they’d be found,’ Mullin said. 2/

Using a large map of the area and low-flying drone footage, Mullin gave a virtual tour of the Monon High Bridge Trail and the key landmarks near it. Prosecutor Nick McLeland said he had to remember that the court was working with a jury from Allen Co., not from Carroll Co. 3:

Mullin said he returned Feb 14 to help coordinate searches, sending teams of two and three with maps to search the area. 4/

Johns testified that nearly four hours into their search, they spotted a tie-dyed shirt hung up on roots sticking out along Deer Creek. 5/

Johns testified that his partner called Delphi resident Pat Brown, who was in the area looking just north, and across Deer Creek, to walk their way. They were on the phone with him when Brown told them, ‘We found the bodies.’ 6/

Brown testified that what he saw looked like mannequins at first. He choked up when he described calling Delphi PD Chief Mullin: ‘I stood there facing away from them.’He said police were there in about 5 minutes, but seemed like it felt forever. 7/

Court was in session until 11:45 am. The trial continues Monday morning. More from the courtroom later today at

I'm sure it was hard for him to look at what he saw, but to show these two young women such respect by turning around and facing the other direction.

28 minutes in and I am shocked.
Defense had Bob Motta sitting at the defense table at today’s trial.
He was not in line or given a press pass. He was a guest of defense.
They also allege he shared a hotel room in Fort Wayne with another podcaster that had been seen approaching individuals outside the courtroom during jury selection and asking them if they were potential jurors and photographing car license plate of potential jurors.
How is this ok?
Who cares if he is at trial sitting as a guest of the D? I did ask earlier this week if a non family member wanted to sit with the family of the victims or the D if there were any rules against this - seems not if Mr. Motta is permitted to sit with the D. This isn't even surprising imo.

What is the implication here? I'm not about to listen to the podcast... and maybe this has been answered later in the thread somewhere, but why do we care?

We are at our most vulnerable when deceased. I agree, this witness showed great respect in his actions that day.

"The defense began questioning Johns, only learning that Johns saw footprints on Feb. 14 on an access road near Deer Creek. After being questioned by the prosecution and defense again, nothing new was said. No further questions were asked."

Have we heard about footprints before??

I think there is suspicion that BM might be working spin for the DT in the public. He's presenting himself as a member of the media, but his place at the table calls into question his impartiality.

Yes, it was in very early reports from the time that searchers followed a set of footprints and found the girls.

What 3rd shoe?

2 Nikes in the Creek and one under Abby where the phone was.

I think if screams or yelling had been heard anytime, LE wouldn’t have errorously concluded that the two missing girls were not in danger. JMO

Interesting on the body language being reported -- has the defendant changed his mind about his whereabouts on Feb 13, and what he first reported and later confessed?

State prosecutor Nick McLeland began his opening statement by describing Feb. 13, 2017, as a “summer day in the middle of winter” and Libby and Abby’s adventure on the bridge. He warned the jury of graphic pictures that would be shown and said witnesses would testify that Allen confessed to being on the bridge. Allen and his wife both “furiously” shook their heads hearing the prosecution’s mention of him being on the bridge.
