MS is kind of pathetic in their attempts to make the defense attorneys look bad. As if Rozzi isn’t experienced and professional enough to conceal any type of reaction while he’s in the courtroom? Ridiculous.
Every account of a lawyer being angry or combative in hearings and in this trial so far have all be against Rozzi. I'd say that might indicate a propensity of his actions when he feels wronged or caught off guard.

I believe there is a specific reason Baldwin has been doing the 'aww shucks, I'm just a good ole' guy" routine in his jury selection days and opening statements.

#UPDATE: Updates from part 1 of day 6 in the #Delphi double murders trial.
- We first heard from Kathy Shank. Kathy helped file tips and reports for the investigation.
- In Sept. of 2022, she came across a handwritten file titled “Richard Allen Whiteman.” Richard Allen lived on Whiteman Drive in Delphi.
- The file said Allen had been interviewed in 2017 and self reported as having been on the bridge the day of the girls’ disappearance.
- She told Tony Liggett.
- Next up, DNR Capt. Dan Dulin was called. He had interviewed Allen in 2017.
- In that interview, Allen told Dulin he had been on the bridge some time between 1 and 3 p.m. that day.
- The conversation was 10 minutes and was not recorded, other than by handwritten notes that were then typed up in a word doc
- After being called in 2022, Dulin did additional research and found that Allen applied for a new fishing license on April 1 of 2017 and had changed his height and weight. More updates to come.

but the date that he got rid of the phone is going to be very telling.
Stupid question time…
Do we know for a fact he got rid of it? Or just that it wasn’t found during the search of his house?

I mean could it be out of state somewhere sitting in a box?

Would the defense have to disclose that the phone was still in existence or if they had had it analyzed?
I’m actually that clueless about how things work

He apparently said himself, he self-reported because his wife....

IMO his wife thought he needed to help LE (never dreaming at that point he was responsible), nudging him to call in.

Why did he change his time what talking with RE? Perhaps to look super helpful, credible, careful, accurate. A guy who wants to be exact about his times isn't going to be inaccurate about whom he saw on the trail. Well, unless....

How did RA know Abby and Libby weren't two of the three girls he said he saw? He said he didn't get a his look, didn't he?

No mistake on the time though. He confirmed it.

JMO
has KA confirmed she was the one who encouraged RA to self report? I am not sure I believe RA about that unless she has (to LE or anyone else for hat matter).

More testimony from Steve Mullin:

Mullin responded that he believes the car in the video was Richard Allen’s. He said the “general shape of the car was the same,” as were the taillights, bumper, rims (black sports rims with spokes).

The jury was shown a 9-second video of the vehicle as it passed from east to west, followed by close-ups of the car.

Some of the car’s major identifying features — including the license plate and VIN — were not visible on the security camera footage. The time on the security camera footage and info from Dulin’s meeting match up, according to News 8’s Kyla Russell.

Mullin said he and Liggett went to Richard Allen’s house on Oct. 13, 2022, and told him they wanted to ask questions about the Delphi investigation.

He told the jury Allen agreed to go to the police department and was taken there in an unmarked car and in plain clothes.

They arrived at the police station, where Mullin said he asked Allen what he was doing on Feb. 13, 2017.

Allen said he went to his mom’s house in Peru, returned to Delphi, picked up a jacket, went to the trails around 12 p.m., and left at 1:30 p.m.

Mullin told the jury Allen indicated — but did not say — he saw the thee girls at the start of the bridge. Allen added that he looked at his “stock ticker,” watched fish from the bridge, and walked until at least the first platform.

Allen told police he was driving his Ford Focus and parked at the old DCS building.
Mullin said Allen described his clothing that day as a black/blue Carhartt jacket, blue jeans, and a skull cap.

We don’t know what he claimed to have done with it, and it could theoretically be anywhere.

I’m not sure about the latter, but if they wanted to introduce it then the prosecution would want to analyze it themselves.

At the time of the murders he was the Chief of Delphi police but later in the investigation he stepped down from that role and became an investigator for the Carroll County Prosecutor's Office.

Big Thanks! Much appreciated! :)

The net is closing in around RA thankfully.

And we still have weeks to go.

Moo
Yes. The prosecution is following the timeline. First, they show that BG=kidnapper and murderer, now they will show that RA=BG IMO. In the last days I saw some people in the social media saying "I haven't heard anything damning against RA" when the prosecution was still establishing that BG=kidnapper and murderer and not talking about RA.

So he had a skull cap on in the bridge video.

  • #331
Thanks.

So as such it's still the state's contention or theoretical timeline until proven by evidence/ testimony?

It would be interesting to check off each time stamp against what we've heard in court as we go.

BBM

Great Idea !!!

You are nominated for this task.

Can you please post the updated list each evening after court is done ??

TIA

So it ended up not being true that Richard Allen only spoke to law enforcement because the bridge guy picture had not been released yet.

Very interesting

I’m not sure about the latter, but if they wanted to introduce it then the prosecution would want to analyze it themselves.
But hypothetically if the defense had location data or something from it, they could potentially introduce that to show he’d left the bridge prior to the murder?

And I’m not suggesting this is the case, I’m more curious at what point does the defense have to disclose that type of thing?

I do realize this is a rather ridiculous series of questions because if he had a solid alibi he wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in, but I was curious if he could potentially introduce data from the phone later in the trial

The Murder Sheet are far more neutral and non biased than I expected. We can’t blame them if the D isn’t putting on a stellar performance. They merely call it as they see it.

It’s no secret the D was upset not have been informed when the ME added the box cutter as a possibility as that very question demanded of him. Of course the jury couldn’t know the D intended to suggest the murder weapon was a serrated ceremonial knife or multiple weapons so the Murder Sheet noted it must’ve appeared as an odd interchange to the jury. The ME had also disclosed it was possible only one murder weapon killed both victims. IIRC that was a juror question. JMO

Mullin said Allen told police he saw three girls on the bridge and was “looking at his stock ticker.” Allen then said one of the girls “appeared to be older” and that she was “babysitting.”

Mullin told the jury he showed Allen a photo of “Bridge Guy” and that Allen responded, “If the photo was taken with the girl’s camera, it couldn’t be him.”

The former police chief said Allen agreed to let him look at the phone, but then got angry and walked out of the interview. After that, Allen was taken back to his house.

Court took a lunch break at 12:06 p.m.

Just curious, whose idea was it to be interviewed about murdered kids in the Save-a-Lot parking lot?

Home not ok. Police station not ok.

Save-a-Lot parking lot-- well, ok!

Dulin? Or someone else? OMGoodness, was that Rick's idea??

And by the way, the February 18 date on that interview with Dulin. It's a little late, the girls were murdered 13th-14th. "Rick" had seen unidentified girls of a young age out on those trails the very day young girls disappeared on the trails. Rick didn't get a good look at those girls he saw, he'd have no way to know those girls he saw didn't include the girls that turned up missing and then dead.

Where was Rick's sense of urgency?
According to a post upthread, He had to talk to his wife and he told her he was there at the bridge that day.
She must have given her permission for him to talk to DD, IMO

Edited to add the Post upthread-
Steve Mullin gave details on the first time RA was interviewed by LE after the tip was uncovered. When RA was first interviewed, he was Mirandized and let law enforcement look at his phone and gave his password. As time went on, Mullin said he became agitated and walked out. They gave him a ride back to his home, after which they acquired the search warrant and the search began. Mullin asked him why he called in the tip on that day (Feb 16th, 2017) and RA said "Because I talked to my wife and told her that's where I was." They asked him if the image could be him and he said 'If this image was taken with the girls' camera, there's no way it could be me."

I don’t think a possible height was released until the sketch in July 2017. However, the first photos were apparently released on 2/15/17:

It seems likely he wanted to change how he appeared in state databases because he was afraid they’d do a query for people that were his actual height and weight, and he’d come up as a potential suspect… along with him putting himself there, that would be bad news.

JMO
Hahaha so he played himself so bad thinking he was sneaky but actually putting himself into the eventual height range.

People talk facetiously about “oh poor Ricky is sooo unlucky” but that part actually IS unlucky!

I hate to make light of something so grim and horrible but that’s kind of hilarious.

If only he still had his 2017 phone, yes.

If he was indeed somewhere else. (But why did he say he was on the first platform looking at fish?)

If that phone had nothing incriminating on it.

But that’s apparently the ONE phone he ever had in his life that he can’t produce now.
